  1. Minnesota has a pretty good economy, very high (for the US) high school graduation rate, good housing for a good price, and a sense of humor when electing officials. Too bad the winter weather is too brutal.
  2. She is looking down into her purse to find the pepper spray. or maybe she's just getting a stronger grip on her purse Maybe she's looking for a spot to discreetly vomit.
  3. We didn't have any non-male students in aerobics -- they comprised ~4% of the student body and were only offered "health" if I recall correctly. Somehow, I think that has changed since then... I think it was 3 days a week. We did a bit of stretching also.
  4. It is obvious that you are a born citizen. Anyone who had to take the test would be more familiar with the way the U.S. constitutional amendment process works.
  5. Actually, I'm a LOT better at making money and paying taxes than I would be at building a house. Great for staying in touch, but not an efficient use of my value.
  6. You need to have a word to say when you screw up, other than "shit" or "oops." The word "there" can be substituted successfully in many situations.
  7. Same as vote in Speaker's Corner. They could have saved a lot of campaign and election expense, by just asking us.
  8. I just went and read articles about the "main" episode. If a passenger has time to call 911 before you hit anything and the driver doesn't correct the situation, the driver is figuratively asleep at the wheel. Not to say that the design error is not a significant problem -- it is. I've had cutaways that were less exciting than my stuck accelerator.
  9. VW created a dangerous situation wrt the pedal and the mat. I informed of that, so that they could correct it, and they pretty much blew me off. If someone later had the same problem, then they (VW) deserve whatever they get, for ignoring a known problem. I cut 6 inches off my mat, so I no longer have said problem. I was lucky that traffic wasn't so heavy in the lanes between me and the shoulder, or a wreck could have been the result. The Passat is DBW, so they damn well better be able to resolve conflicting inputs with the ECU. Of course, that could still happen with a jammed cable, so still a good idea in that case.
  10. My Passat has such, but I still experienced a stuck accelerator. Like the Toyota, pedal was stuck under the edge of the mat. I had just floored it getting on the expressway. I let off the gas at a bit over 70 and found myself still accelerating, even after hitting the brakes. Maybe 3 seconds after after really leaning on the brakes, the ECU shut down the engine (at 90+mph). I coasted across a couple of lanes of traffic to the shoulder, where I discovered that the pedal was still stuck under the corner of the floor mat. I called VW of America about this, and got a big yawn for my efforts. Companies with that attitude deserve to get their asses sued.
  11. I've jumped out of Grummans a couple of times. You really don't want to have anything in the plane which isn't nailed down -- when the canopy is opened, anything loose will get sucked out.
  12. When I was an undergrad, freshman year had 3 physical education classes (quarter system) -- aerobics, gymnastics, and swimming. The quarterly grade for aerobics was based on how far you ran in 12 minutes, with 7 laps (1.75 miles) being an A, 6.5 for a B, etc. I'm not sure whether anyone that showed up every class got an F, but I'm sure that D's were handed out. I expect that morbidly obese student got out of this, along with disabled students. Maybe they took "health" class as a substitute. I don't have a problem with all student being required to take a year of either true physical education or "health" classes, but I find it odd to require obese students to take a class if other students don't have the requirement.
  13. Sarcasm, Andy. I don't see that "medicare (health care) for all" is really any different than medicare for the retired, and can't see why anyone could be in favor of medicare coverage and against universal health care coverage.
  14. They can be a good thing if the cancer was caught in time.
  15. Yep, we should get rid of both of those too. People should have incentive to save for their own care in their "twilight years", rather than wasting money and waiting on a government handout.
  16. Yeah, well, call and wake me up when total unemployment, not just the rate on new claims, has dropped.
  17. Bill, the ones around my house are similar in size to the ones you describe, like a pretty small dog, I've seen foxes as large. The one I ran over one night in the Sierra was quite a bit larger. Had I been in my Passat rather than BB's SUV, it might have gotten ugly. You can't tell from the picture, but this one probably weighed a bit over 40 pounds.
  18. When real skydivers don't roll their eyes or have beer gurgle out of their nose when you say it.
  19. Doesn't look at all like that to me. RWBB feathers have much shorter red section, a color transistion, and IIRC the color is red on both sides. John's photo has reddish on one side only, and it seems to be the underside, as well as I can tell from the photo.
  20. Is it just me, or does "Theten" sound like someone with a bad lisp saying "Satan?" "I'm a Thatan worthuper."
  21. The FL rep is an idiot. Is she trying to reduce the number of Republicans in Congress even further? Article 1 Section 9 applies to members of Congress, not to the President.
