  1. Yeah, yeah, I know, but I needed a "wow, look at this weird thing I jsut found story" in an excuse to post it. -- All the flaming and trolls of wreck dot with a pretty GUI.
  2. Actually it all depends on the millisecond rating of the monitor. Anything over 20 is not worth it in my opinion. 16 ms is approx. 60fps. These days 60fps is pretty far from extreme in gaming or video work. I happen to know Aggiedave and he does both. In reality...the LCDs people in this thread are talking about buying come NOWHERE close to that. A good quality LCD with response
  3. I was reading my new Maxim, and bumped into this add for "the liberator" a kind of new fangled pillow of sorts. It looks like you can use it for a drink shelf and maybe to hold potted plants, or even a BMX ramp. http://www.liberator.com/ The most interesting parts are the product demo movies. Also, commendable is that they cater to people who need bigger pillows for whatever reasons Oh yeah, this might all be NSFW....not really sure -- All the flaming and trolls of wreck dot with a pretty GUI.
  4. HAHA...well I have cleaned up A LOT. I am satisfied with my Cisco full feature IOS entry point. My server is NT, but pretty secure...ongoing organization with domain files rights. But have greatly enforced permissions since joining. Our backups are secure, I added a full rack, a full smart UPS setup, an office to ffice VPN, etc. Always something else to do, but my primary job duty it product support, second is IT. What is funny, is that it was done by a contract outfit before I got here...pretty ridiculous. -- All the flaming and trolls of wreck dot with a pretty GUI.
  5. We did not even get to grep, grok, fsck or etc. It can get much better. Date a coder and start talking about for loops with cins and couts. typically with a guy it might be a for loop, but it should really be an if loop, with a counter for the female side of the iteration. -- All the flaming and trolls of wreck dot with a pretty GUI.
  6. Dude, that rocks! I use a lot of their utils, even more at my last job. I won $20 one time from a fellow support team member who swore he was not locking out his own account. Used PSLOGGEDON to pinpoint it
  7. Well it all depends on what you use it for. LCDs do not 'refresh' in the same manner as CRTs, so they have a delay if you will. IN fast situations they often 'ghost'. Also, LCDs by their very nature have a ntive resolution at which they look best. You push past that and it does the manipulation to make it all work, but it never looks as good. read this as a start: http://graphics.tomshardware.com/display/20041123/index.html -- All the flaming and trolls of wreck dot with a pretty GUI.
  8. Not really....it all depends on what your philosophy is on net adminning. If my machine is dirty, I don't care about blocking, I care about cleaning it. I use other utils to monitor my traffic, I will be notified of spurious activity. But I would much rather see that at my custom threshold than deal with the 'smarter than you are' Zone Alarm. I am a CLI guy, and I like being able to run command line utils with ZA griping at me. Besides, try this: http://www.sysinternals.com/ntw2k/source/tcpview.shtml -- All the flaming and trolls of wreck dot with a pretty GUI.
  9. Yeah, but so does just a router
  10. ZA is a pain in the ass, just like windows firewall. Unless you are using something like linux ipchains or cisco ios firewall or PIX, you are using a simplified solution, a jack of all trades. There is a reason that all corporate networks use hardware embedded firewalls. They also use NAT, althought admittedly mostly for IP conservations. There is just no good reason not to have a router, plus you can setup log and dump to a syslog server if you want. You can route specific ports to specific internal IPs, etc. If you want to run ZA also, great...fine...enjoy the setup. But I wouldn't trust ZA alone. -- All the flaming and trolls of wreck dot with a pretty GUI.
  11. Do you have a Linksys router? I bet you do. A lot of the linksys routers have ZA embedded on the router, this then interfaces with your PC and pass alert message, like the router acting as a remote sensor. If that is not the case....it should be techinically impossible to get pings from the outside world through a NAT. Of course something inside could be pinging. Do you have other machines on the LAN? Personally I would recomment Netgear, not Linksys. But that is another debate. For Clay, get a router!! I would not run a constant internet connection without one period. you can read about NAT here http://computer.howstuffworks.com/nat.htm Technically much better than a software firewall...unless you are running a real stateful inspection engine. I run a router, and nothing else....NAT takes cares of it all. -- All the flaming and trolls of wreck dot with a pretty GUI.
  12. Well, the 'steal' has just become more of the average spread. LCDs did not help, that is what is holding the price probably. Everyone wants a 17" LCD. Screw that....watch a DVD or DOOM on a 21" CRT, and then tell me how cool your LCD is. Or try anything other than native resolution, for that matter. -- All the flaming and trolls of wreck dot with a pretty GUI.
  13. 21" beige or black regular http://www.mwave.com/mwave/viewspec.hmx?scriteria=1995231 21" Flat .20 !!! Black http://www.mwave.com/mwave/viewspec.hmx?scriteria=3314418 I have a 21", and would hate to go smaller again. I paid $450 4 years ago, and it was a steal. My second link above would be my choice if I had to buy again. LCD just arent there yet, it will ghost for games and DVDs, unless pay at least more than above monitors and lose 4 inches. -- All the flaming and trolls of wreck dot with a pretty GUI.
  14. You dont want an LCD, you just think you do. Get a minimal footprint CRT. -- All the flaming and trolls of wreck dot with a pretty GUI.
  15. Some (MANY MANY) bosses would argue posting here is inappropriate for work My last employer did. F*%& Proxy Servers and SurfControl. -- All the flaming and trolls of wreck dot with a pretty GUI.
  16. I would expect such trash at Denny's, but here? Didn't we create a forum for things like this? -- All the flaming and trolls of wreck dot with a pretty GUI.
  17. First one is the same as Dave's...I have some others but not at work. The NOW is attached -- All the flaming and trolls of wreck dot with a pretty GUI.
  18. Yeah...of course you know...if anyone asked particularly, a female skydiver, I would desist Sounds like you have "nina" from corporate accounts payable right across from you. -- All the flaming and trolls of wreck dot with a pretty GUI.
  19. Any of Johnny Cashes covers, particularly 'Hurt' Lagwagons' cover of Bad Moon Rising - kinda punk Toy Dolls cover of Kids in America - kinda punk somebody's cover of Boys and Girls....I cannot seem to sort out at the moment who. Blur did it first...but there is a new one out there. -- All the flaming and trolls of wreck dot with a pretty GUI.
  20. I was talking about clipping them, not leaving them laying around. That is stupid and inefficient anyway. -- All the flaming and trolls of wreck dot with a pretty GUI.
  21. It REALLY does depend on the office, all very valid opinions here, but all subjective based on your workplace. I work in a small company, where work is a second home, hours are flexible and often long, and often socialize at work. I have packed my rig outside my cube. We often plays with RC cars in the warehouse during non-smokers-smoking breaks. Wednesday is loosely 'bring you gun to work day' and at 5 we clean them and then head to the range. So, in that environment, nails clippings are pretty trivial. That same environment provides a lot of flexibility, creativity, and responsibility. Based on that environment, I dont think nail clipping is any more gross than a coughing fit or blowing your nose in your cube. But then I guess if you think it is...I get away with all kinds of stuff at work, you probalby couldn't either. -- All the flaming and trolls of wreck dot with a pretty GUI.
  22. If you are interested in books, check out: Greatest Miracle in The World http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0553279726/qid=1101938900/sr=1-1/ref=sr_1_1/002-3333344-8416825?v=glance&s=books It is as inspirational as motivational I guess. My only trick with gym stuff is to equate reps to somehting you want, ie a chocolate, a 'stroke' with your sig. other., etc. If you are mental person, it works great. Of course on the flipside, maybe you need to just give in and enjoy a slack binge, and then go back motivated. I used to be realy bad about half slacking and beating myself up the whole time. SO I did not get the enjoyment from achievement or laziness. -- All the flaming and trolls of wreck dot with a pretty GUI.
  23. /eh, I have done it before, in fact clipped nails random places including the car and the dz. It really all depends on where you work too. I work in a cube farm (with Hawaiian shirt fridays, I swear) and as long as it is in my cube noone really cares what I do. I am curious what is so disgusting about nails? Unless people are slobs...my nails are clean and short. If we clip that at work, it is not an urge at all, it is rather that our bathroom time in the morning is about 15 minutes and we don't think about nails until we do something like typing and notice they are too long. While I don't think it is disgusting, the smell of nail polish is way more annoying then the sound of nail clippers. If you worked in a business dress environment both would probalby be inappropriate, but we are pretty lose business casual here. -- All the flaming and trolls of wreck dot with a pretty GUI.

  25. I guess Christmas is coming up, and making a list is always hard for me. Jump money is easiest, but impersonal. So what cool skydiving collectiables have you all seen? Obviously we have all seen, pin jewelry, etc. And I have a skydiving Santa on a bungee thing. But what else? Anyone ever seen a snow globe with jumpers instead of snow or some other nifty knick knack. -- All the flaming and trolls of wreck dot with a pretty GUI.
