  1. There is good beer and then there is drinking beer. Good beer comes in a lot of flavors, none of them light, and can be paired with different kinds of food, much like wine. Fish and chips for example demands Guiness. However, in places like Texas, the quantities of beer consumed at times are way to high to stick to 'good' beer as the results would be: stop drinking before the buzz because you are full, drink till you puke. These times call for drinking beer, my preference is Miller Lite, MGD, or Natural Light. If you object to this you can always drink the first few good, and then move to 'drinking' beer. The taste is no where near as good as some of the beers I enjoy like Anchor Steam, IPA, etc. But it is handing for drinking fast, playing bones, and/or anything that requires "hey hold my beer" Although like dave...due to saturation, lately I turn to wine or liqour for a buzz without feeling like a bloated water buffalo. -- All the flaming and trolls of wreck dot with a pretty GUI.

  3. There is a Palm Sync extension http://www.mozilla.org/products/thunderbird/releases/ However, for many business users, there is too much connected to Outlook, salesforce for me for example, to think about this switch. -- All the flaming and trolls of wreck dot with a pretty GUI.
  4. Todd is a great guy, stand up in every aspect I have seen. And has the idea of DZO down pretty damn good. Anyone with the chance should visit Skydive Aggieland. Todd would have my vote, but I am in a different region...so I will do what I usually do avoid anything that says USPA. -- All the flaming and trolls of wreck dot with a pretty GUI.
  5. The right decision in someone else's time frame is usually not the right decision. Staying in the sport because a bunch of jumpers on the internet say so, makes no more sense than getting out because his wife says so. To thine own self be true. That this the final answer, anyone that loves you will accept and appreciate that, including other jumpers. I have been on both sides of this, as I am historically a dominant person. I have learned in the last year it is VERY important, to yourself as much as the others, to accept others decisions in their own time. Give advice, and then love the friend regardles of the choice. Sometimes they have to find the singularity of the right decision for themselves. Otherwise it will never be satisfying. -- All the flaming and trolls of wreck dot with a pretty GUI.
  6. I don't know your situation, and I think everyone here assuming that it can be simplified into a stereotype is foolish. It is a common misconception in a forum environment that an answer to anything will fit in a posting window. You alone know the entire situation. Follow your instincts. I will say from personal experience...search for the root cause. Skydiving often brings relationship issues to the surface due to the intensity of the connected feelings. However, it does not create anything not already present in a relationship. That being said sometimes you have to remove urgency from a sensitive issue to allow it to heal. I hope this is the road you are aiming for. In any case, no matter what you choose, sell your gear or not, etc. We will be waiting to welcome you back. 16. Used to say 3 days. These day, I agree with Sunny. IF you want to AND you have something to say, call. Be you, if that pushes the wrong buttons so early you were not meant to be anyway. Never used to look at it that way, but that revelation has been great. "That fit" with a lot of engineering is not really 'That fit' So, just call and say you know I had a fabulous time with you on Saturday, I wanted to call and see if we could get frozen yogurt sometime, maybe even a whole meal of food. -- All the flaming and trolls of wreck dot with a pretty GUI.

  19. This whole thread is a bit funny in my opinion; a bunch of 'risktaking skydivers' arguing about a risk, and the benefit and practical applications. Here are my thoughts: I suspect similiar debate has occured around most firsts in our sport, including the idea to make it a sport, where is the practical application in that? "You mean you want to risk your life for fun?" I have no doubt it will happen, and given the current rate of advancement in technology, I suspect it will easily fit within the 6 year window discussed. There were attempted progressions toward wingsuit landing as far back as the 40s and 50s. I think we are near the climax of the learning curve. Defining landing as under control on a horizontal surface is foolish. Ask any current swooper about ground slope and what it can do for you. Most of us have probably landing on a slope of some degree during our sport experience. Additionally, this is a "first" I think the idea is to prove it possible and the refine it from there. The first squares sucked too. How knows what the options are quite yet. Practical application seems a bit of a misnomer too. For one, the practical application is fun. How many people would do this if possible? Jump and land on a snow slope. I sure would, albeit with a 100 jump learning curve. Even forgetting that....how about marketability? That is the number 1, practical application. This is a stunt...and it ups the anty for anything out there right now. As a sport we are saturating the market...a tandem skydive is no where near as extreme an idea as it was 10 years ago. We have made our sport safe and explained it to the world. Why do we all seek something new, BASE, wingsuits, swooping, etc. Because freefall itself is no longer "gee whiz" Don't get me wrong, I love every aspect of our sport from a high speed landing to a long cross country to crw. But the cutting edge of anything always drives the market in techonology, etc. It introduces attention and investment that really fuel the more conservative end of the spectrum. That was the point behind the X prize, etc. If this feat on snow, water, whatever does nothing but grab huge attention for the sport, I like it. Personally, I like looking like dare devils every once in a while. Isn't that we hype it up a little around whuffos and students a little bit. Any performer makes its look amazing while knowing that he has the risks calculated. I kind of like people thinking we are crazy loons sometimes, it adds to the fun. Jump a pumpkin, fly a freefly tube, fly a ball, jump off a building, land a wingsuit.....it is all part of a progression, and as the entry level becomes more ordinary and safely engineered, some of us will always push the edges. Ask a guy named Yeager about it... -- All the flaming and trolls of wreck dot with a pretty GUI.
  20. You guys may not care, but perhaps I help one person...worth posting. SBC recently started blocking SMTP port, and did not proactively notify anyone. I went round and round, before determining they were even blocking it. Big PITA. If you have SBC DSL, more details here: http://www.broadbandreports.com/forum/remark,12018462~mode=flat You can opt out, and I have. -- All the flaming and trolls of wreck dot with a pretty GUI.
  21. Not sure, don't the law that well. Maybe Andyman does. I think it is a software util coupled with the phone that allows them to dial mass batches of numbers input from a list. -- All the flaming and trolls of wreck dot with a pretty GUI.
  22. Guys...we JUST DID this...'ucking 'ell http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=1357859#1357859 snopes, blah, blah, I trust them. But the very page on the DNC list site says go ahead and register. As Andy has pointed out before...you cannot use autodialers, he is fond of saying this is almost the same as making the calls illegal. Well, be that as it may, adding my cell to the list, dropped my calls. Plenty of places apparently don't use autodialers. There was some debate in the prior thread about whether the list will be release or not. Either way, doesnt' really hurt to add it. -- All the flaming and trolls of wreck dot with a pretty GUI.
  23. that would probably be why I used the NSFW warning.
  24. Well, I never actually said editting. But it does depend on what LCD, and what you do. Response time is not the same as frame rate. I realize that NTSC is 29. something frames. It is simply an easy comparison as most people don't count in milliseconds. What LCD do you have? Just go read up on LCD testing. http://graphics.tomshardware.com/display/20040923/lcd_monitors-10.html Any LCD with a slow response time will ghost in fast movement caused by typically by FPS games or fast action in a video/DVD. There is nothing inherently 'wrong' with LCDs. It just annoys me that all the manufacturers are billing them as 'better' than CRTs, they arent', they simply save space. These http://news.com.com/Slimmer+tube+TVs+to+challenge+flat+panels/2100-1041_3-5458670.html will challenge them in the next year to two anyway. -- All the flaming and trolls of wreck dot with a pretty GUI.
