How often do you get scared skydiving?
Vertifly replied to drakeshelby's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I can see your point. But I think about getting killed on every skydive. Yes, on EVERY skydive. {sorry if the harshness of this freaks people out, but it's true} And immediately after I think about being six feet under, I think about safety. These thoughts alone force me to think about the jump and the skydivers who are flying on the jump. Perhaps the word for it isn't "FEAR". Maybe it is a compilation of the words that Firstime posted and more. Either way, it forces me to feel enough discomfort to meditate about the jump and the safety of my rig. So, do I welcome nervousness, fear, anxiety, apprehension, etc. ? ABSOLUTELY!!! If I didn't, I would be dead by now - many of us would. -
Anything to be on camera. I am usually the one taking the pics. LOL TSSSSSSSSssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss!

I guess that is exactly what Atmonauti is, either A really steep Tracking Dive or A really shallow Flocking Dive. In either situation, it isn't the same. Try it out. I think that you'll agree that this is a position that takes specific attention like the others. Atmonauti is just as different than any of these disciplines are compared to one-another. In other words, it is a flying style all its own.

How often do you get scared skydiving?
Vertifly replied to drakeshelby's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Wow, no offense to you or anyone answering, "hardly ever" or "not so much anymore", but oh my. These are not the responses that I would have expected. For me the answer is, Every Time I Jump. Perhaps my philosophy differs greatly from the majority. If I didn't get scared on every single jump then my safety would be compromised. The fear that I remember from my first 10 jumps is the same that I felt on my 1800th. This way, the discipline to check my gear never changes - in fact, it may get better as my experience of more danger in the sport increases. It is just my philosophy. -
Christie is quite the mimic. Then again, she's the Pro. Very impressive and funny. I can't get it outa my head. oh my oh my...Ifuggdup..heheheheee. For the rest of the forum posters, you just had to have been there. Or perhaps Julio can enlighten everyone by making a recording and posting it. THAT would be really funny.

When did you go over 1.4 W/L??
Vertifly replied to frankiebrina's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Your results don't show my correct answer. It's at about 1500 jumps and I am not sorry, IN THE LEAST, that I waited this long. You learn more by jumping the more conservative canopies first and for a while. Most of the best canopy pilots agree with this theory - at least, the ones that I spoke with. -
Hey Christie!!! You've captured me during one of my favorite moments in life. ...just before I let go of an aircraft and enter freefall. Ahhhhhh...the world can be so kind. Yum Yum. Thanks for posting the pic for me; like I said, you guys RULE!!! Too bad it isn't my good side though. Then again, I don't think that I could show my good side on the camera step. LOL

Do a search on the freefly forum for atmonauti. There is a link in here somewhere that shows a couple of competition routines with a VERY GOOD example of atmonauti flight.

On my flight back from Puerto Rico I checked a rig inside of my luggage. Upon arriving home, I noticed a pamphlet inside of my bag stating that it had been opened and inspected. Luckily my repack seal was not broken and the rig was not unpacked either. The funny part is that ALL of my clothes were dirty. NO, not just dirty, but very stinky and dirty from the Puerto Rico heat that made me sweat my ass off all week. LOL The stench that must have come out of the bag when they needed to open and inspect must have been nasty. I wish to have been a fly on the wall when they opened it. Note to self, always pack my rig away with the dirty clothes. YUKKKK!!!!

The 4th Puerto Rico Freefall Festival
Vertifly replied to FLsurfer's topic in Events & Places to Jump
I didn't see anything. Well, at least I don't REMEMBER seeing anything. -
I WAS THERE... ...but nobody is going to be seeing a pic. My best side will be staying in my pants for the time being. Perhaps next year if I am feeling bold enough. LOL

This boogie was THE SHIT!!! Everyone at the DZ was sooo helpful and accommodating. I couldn't get enough of the locals' smiles and energy for good times. I'm not used to people actually saying hello back to me when I smile at them. Very un-Jersey of your culture and you should be proud of that. To all the kick-ass flyers down there: KEEP ON ROCKIN the paradise sky! A special thanks to Jessica for being a great tour guide, Julio and Christie (you guys rule), Vladi (for all the on-heading openings), Ricky, and Jason. MonkeyClaw also put on some exciting organizing and entertainment as usual. Stuey's aired his new movie! It is a great a compilation of very entertaining skydive scenes and it is well worth a purchase. Wing suit jumps by Chris were rad (as in radical - thanks to me - WHOOPS!!!) - thinking that I'll need much more air time before getting some good scenes for my movie on this one. However, you can't beat doing a birdman over some of the most beautiful beaches in the world; relative or not. We all got kick out of soaking Cruise in the face (through his bedroom screen) with the water hose - hey, wanta hear one of the masters scream like a 10-year old girl. LOL But they got us back as usual. Crosskeys locals didn't disappoint with the after hours entertainment as well. We all know the condition that the culdesac is in. No more comments on that - just be creative in your own mind. Next year it is a must to spend an extra four days (at least) to go site seeing. It didn't take long for me to exhaust an entire roll of film checking out Old San Juan. I spent a lovely afternoon and evening there. And to the Crosskeys bunch that showed up, thanks for some splendid jumps far away from home. See you this spring! Be ready for the film festival. Missing PR Already! Be good and safe everyone. -
Dude, don't fall for it. Some girls can be truthful about not really wanting a gift, but some can't. And the trick of it is, you will NEVER know which ones are thinkin what!!!??? That is why they drive us crazy. Do you honestly think that a man came up with the idea for Valentines day? Don't believe it. Go out, get her some expensive chocolates, at minimum, and maybe something personal between the two of you (a nighty or something even more carnal). And above all enjoy it; if done right, she'll give you everything that you need... UNTIL NEXT TIME. heheheheheheheh

PHYSICS ? - why do tandems fall faster?
Vertifly replied to corpkid's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
If size does matter then: | | ...is actually six inches. LOL At least, that is what she told you correct. Just kidding. You are correct. Weight does play a roll. But for the lamen, density will provide you with a closer answer. Density considers the weight and size of an object. It is actually two of the following variables which are considered in the terminal velocity equation. Wieght, Velocity, Density, Drag, Frontal Area, and Drag Coefficients are the different variables. Think about it for a minute. To calculate an objects density, we must measure its weight and size. I mean, that is what density is. Weight divided by Mass. Terminal Velocity is reached when Drag is equal to Weight. Plain and simple. But with more drag (or less density) a slower terminal velocity is accomplished. With more weight in the same object (or more density) a faster terminal velocity will be accomplished. The terminal velocity equation tells us that an object with a large cross-sectional area or a high drag coefficient will fall slower than an object with a small. (A large flat plate will fall slower than an a small ball with the same weight.)This is basically the same definition as my umbrella senario. And if we had two objects with the same area and drag coefficient (two identically sized spheres), the lighter object would fall slower. So, in a way we are both correct. -
Foreign language speakers, can you translate for me?

2.6million is 65% larger than 1.7million. If we are lucky, perhaps our total number of jobs lost will be that much too: 53,000 + 34,450 (65%) = 87,450 lost jobs is the predicted amount. Let's see how it goes.

Nothing like Colorado. It has ruined me for riding back home anymore.

If that's sarcasm then I'll assume you are the one doing that cool trick at the bottom of the picture. Otherwise, you're the one taking the shot cause that is a great pic.

PHYSICS ? - why do tandems fall faster?
Vertifly replied to corpkid's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I asked the same question (well, in a way) to my tandem master at about 3 jumps. Here is how the conversation went: Me: "Hey Mike, I don't quite understand the concept of objects and their speeds at terminal velocity." Mike: "Well, what about it?" Me: "I thought that DaVince did the experiment where two cannon balls of different sizes were dropped from the leaning tower of Piza." Mike: "Yeah, And???" Me: "They both hit the ground at the same time." Mike: "And???" Me: "Well, if they both hit the ground at the same time, then that would mean that all objects fall at the same terminal velocity. This is what he proved with the experiment" Mike: "Well, how tall is the leaning tower of piza." Me: "I don't know! About 25 or 30 stories I would guess." Mike: "That isn't enough time for them to reach terminal velocity." Me: "mmmm...ok I guess" So what have we learned from this? This is what: (1) Never assume that your tandem master understands the properties of physics. (2) Don't bother your tandem master with stupid questions. And (3) go find all of the answers that you want from the public library. It's more time consuming but tends to send you off with the correct info. The truth is that those canon balls would fall at the same speed during terminal velocity. Why? Because they are the same shape and density. "Weight" itself has little to do with it; the weight amount is a result of material density. A solid steel ball will fall faster than a baseball no matter what size they are made into. A steel ball is always more dense then a leather and rubber ball. But, then take the baseball sized steel ball and melt it into the shape of an umbrella - with about a 5 foot diamater. The real/regular baseball speed will probably either just about match or be faster than the umbrella made of steel. Hope that analogy helps. -
I'm one of the only people in my family that could answer NO to this question. Although, seriously, I understand that marine boot camp has its similarities. But then again, it is only 13 weeks long as opposed to a sentence of several years. You never know what may happen though. Perhaps I'll get the chance to have the experience someday.

Hey!!!! I'm in Trenton. But so what...WE DO SUCK. And there isn't anything you or me or the city of Trenton can do about it. We just plain suck. That's right...SUCK! If you don't like it, take your team to another state and lose.

I'm stuck at work AND stuck watching um. It is what has been left on the TV behind my desk. Ugh. This kind of stuff can be too melodramatic for me. I don't even subscribe to cable. Give me a book and a warm fireplace and that is all that I need to keep me entertained.

1 1/2 for me now! -
You just ruined every memory that I ever had of the muppet show.

Mine is also self explanatory. Just read it and then look at my avatar. I plan on changing it to fit my avatar everytime.
