Let's see. 31 years ago I started working at WDW entertaining tourists. Then the USN for a SHORT stint. Buillt USN destroyers, oil and chemical refineries, defense (or offense) plants, communication plants, built signs for the people starting businesses, POISON GAS plants fot the US Govt. (didn't know til years after), sewer treatment plants, housing, and now building power plants. (when I don't get fired for showing up drunk. I wonder why?) LOL When do I get to quit? My old man was a fighter pilot over there from 68-75 on and off. Told me some real horror stories. Flew F-4's. Couldn't bomb anything on a recon mission unless it was w/in so many yards of the Ho Chi Min (sp?) Trail. Had to go back to base , review video, wait for approval. By then it was too late. Rules of engagement sucked. Was Vice Wing Commander at Clark when the POW's came back. Snuck a few of his buds (from the Hanoi Hilton) out of the hospital before debriefing to the house. Man they had some stories. Same game in Iraq just a FEW different rules I hold it true, whate'er befall; I feel it, when I sorrow most; 'Tis better to have loved and lost Than never to have loved at all.

Dec 17, 5:26 PM EST Police Find Baby Believed From Slain Mom By MARGARET STAFFORD Associated Press Writer SKIDMORE, Mo. (AP) -- A baby girl who apparently was cut from her mother's womb was found in good health Friday, a day after the slaying, and two people were in custody, authorities said. Sheriff Ben Espey said authorities were awaiting DNA testing to confirm the newborn is the child of Bobbi Jo Stinnett, 23, an eight-months-pregrant factory worker found slain in her Missouri home Thursday. The child was found in neighboring eastern Kansas, state Bureau of Investigation spokesman Kyle Smith said. Missouri State Highway Patrol Sgt. Sheldon Lyon said authorities were questioning a man and a woman who were in the same place as where the baby was found. A red Honda hatchback matching a description offered earlier by police was in the driveway of the home. Espey believes Stinnett was likely strangled and resisted the attack. Authorities hoped that strands of hair found in the dead mother's hands will help find the killers. "The autopsy is going to show us there was some blond hair probably found in her hands," the sheriff said. "That would also help us with the DNA." Doctors said the baby could have suffered a variety of traumas during the assault, including a lack of oxygen. But the girl could likely survive if treated. "Ninety-five percent are going to do pretty well given a modest amount of medical attention," said Dr. Perry Clark, medical director of the neonatal intensive care unit at The University of Kansas Hospital. Espey said there was no indication of forced entry into Stinnett's small white home in this community of about 500 in the northwest corner of Missouri. A neighbor, Bill Dragoo, said Stinnett and her husband raised dogs and "didn't bother anybody. It blows my mind that this happened. She was such a shy person. They didn't deserve this." Espey said investigators knew Stinnett was still alive within an hour of being found around 3:30 p.m. Thursday. Paramedics tried to revive the young woman, who was pronounced dead later at a hospital. Espey was frustrated that it took hours for a statewide Amber Alert to be issued. It didn't appear until about 12:30 a.m. "We had a live baby, and I thought that should qualify as an Amber Alert," he said. "The information I was getting was that we didn't have enough information such as hair color, eye color, skin complexion, size and weight." Stinnett, married for little more than a year and expecting her first child, worked at an engine factory in nearby Maryville. Her husband was at work at the time she was killed, authorities said. Several pregnant women have been killed in recent years by attackers who then removed their fetuses, in some cases to pass the children off as their own. In the most recent case, a 21-year-old woman was shot to death in Oklahoma in December 2003, allegedly by another woman who pretended the 6-month-old fetus was her child. The fetus died and prosecutors are seeking the death penalty. © 2004 The Associated Press. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten or redistributed. Updated: 03:38 PM EST Legislation Sets Stage for Uniform Driver's Licenses By Donna Leinwand, USA TODAY WASHINGTON — The anti-terrorism bill to be signed by President Bush on Friday opens the door for people across the nation to have similar driver's licenses, a plan that is fueling a debate over whether security concerns will lead to what amounts to a national identification card. AP Officials say the plan would reduce counterfeiting. Shown here are fake New Jersey ID cards. The bill, which largely is aimed at improving the nation's intelligence-gathering operations, instructs the departments of Homeland Security and Transportation to meet with the nation's governors and state motor vehicle administrators to set uniform security standards for driver's licenses within 18 months. Such measures could include difficult-to-duplicate holograms, encrypted magnetic strips and other embedded security features. A few states have begun including such features on licenses; Minnesota unveiled a license this month that includes a digital "watermark" and fine lines that are visible only under ultraviolet light. The American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators, a Virginia-based group that represents administrators in all 50 states, has long called for standardization of licenses, in part because of the ease with which criminals, illegal immigrants, alcohol-seeking teenagers and others have been able to produce and obtain fake licenses. The 9/11 terrorist attacks made licensing a national security issue by putting a spotlight on how foreigners seeking to harm the United States could fraudulently obtain licenses. Several of the suicide hijackers got driver's licenses legally, but scrutiny of the hijackers' activities showed, among other things, that they knew licenses could be obtained with little documentation. Civil liberties groups and other critics say the move by Congress to standardize information on driver's licenses and force states to adopt tough anti-fraud measures is the first step toward a system that could encroach on privacy rights. AP Related: · Inside the Intelligence Bill Talk About It: Post | Chat -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The American Civil Liberties Union says that such licenses could give the government a way to have citizens carry cards that eventually could be used to reveal a range of private information, including where people go and what they do. "It's just a matter of time and (the government's) own discretion about what kind of data that could be contained on that ID card," says Larry Pratt, executive director of the Gun Owners of America, another group critical of national licenses. "How much of a fish bowl will the average American be living in?" Pratt's organization joined with the ACLU in buying a newspaper ad opposing the measure before it was passed by Congress this month. He says he worries that the government might link databases of gun ownership to driver's licenses. Although Congress' chief intent is to prevent fraud, its bill sets up a structure for a national ID card, ACLU attorney Marv Johnson says. He worries that advances in technology would allow the U.S. government to install radio frequency chips in driver's licenses that would allow information on the licenses to be accessed by readers several feet away. Initial legislation in the U.S. House would have linked federal databases to driver's licenses, Johnson says. "Now you've made it easier to keep track of people," he says. "It's a fairly frightening scenario. We've never been a country in which you've had to show your papers." The American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators in Arlington, Va., has promoted national standards for years to try to help states prevent document fraud and fake IDs, spokesman Jason King says. "We don't want someone shopping around for a state with the weakest driver's license practices," King said. "All this means is that we're building a more credible ID. The bottom line is, the sky is not falling." More From USA TODAY · Housing Starts, Jobless Claims Both Dive Unexpectedly · U.S. Trade Account Deficit Hits Record · Symantec, Maker of Norton Software, Buys Veritas The 9/11 Commission, the independent panel that made recommendations to Congress on ways to prevent future terrorist attacks, urged the government to take steps to halt ID fraud, says Leslie Phillips, spokeswoman for Sen. Joe Lieberman, D-Conn., who co-authored the original bill. "In no way is (the bill) intended (to create) a national ID," Phillips says. "This applies only to drivers. The point is to ensure the identity of the person using the identification card. ... We are trying to balance the rights of the citizens and the need for the country to crack down on terrorists." She notes that the bill would not have prevented the 9/11 terrorists from getting driver's licenses. The terrorists obtained licenses legally, using valid documents, Phillips says. She says Congress hopes the bill will deter terrorists from making fake IDs or using aliases. © Copyright 2004 USA TODAY, a division of Gannett Co. Inc. All Rights Reserved. That sucks. Sorry to hear it. I'm very opposed to drug testing by companies because what you do on your own time shouldn't be an issue. But were you really .08 when you went in for an interview? That would mean you were pretty buzzed while you were there. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Actually I have a high tolerance for alcohol. I'm Irish after all. I went to bed 12 hrs before this test after dinner. I have never been hurt on a job in 27 yrs. These are new experimental drug tests. I get a different one lately on every job I go on. I did a saliva drug test on the last one. They said they stopped doing the saliva alchol tests on that one cause they were unproven.. I talked to twenty coworkers before the test and believe you me they would have told me if they smelled alcohol. The girl that gave the test was a dyke man hater and how do I know that little piece of paper was mine?. I had a private meeting w/ the Supt, the safety man and the job steward and none of them smelled any alcohol either. Who knows. I'm getting to the point where I'd rather take a blood test. This shit is getting out of hand. And it wasn't an interview it was orientation. I come highly recommended as I've worked on four powerhouses in four years. All til the end and in inspection and supervision I hold it true, whate'er befall; I feel it, when I sorrow most; 'Tis better to have loved and lost Than never to have loved at all.

I don't think I'd want to give them something capable of shooting full automatic. I believe in acceptable risk but we are in an airplane at 40,000ft. Some training and a pistol should do fine. ______________________________________________________________________________________ Worse case senerio they might come in handy. Uh huh. You're going to say that to pilots flying NYC to LA? LA to Honolulu? "Sorry boys, no drinks, no piss breaks, just fly." Good luck with that one. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- So why can't we subsidize the airlines to modify the cockpit doors w/ a double entry like my bank has? Let trained pilots carry and have a couple FM's w/ MP5/10's aboard to boot somewhat like the Isrealis. We've spent how many billion since 9/11? What's a couple more?. Bush Prepares for Possible GPS Shutdown WASHINGTON (AP) - President Bush has ordered plans for temporarily disabling the U.S. network of global positioning satellites during a national crisis to prevent terrorists from using the navigational technology, the White House said Wednesday. Any shutdown of the network inside the United States would come under only the most remarkable circumstances, said a Bush administration official who spoke to a small group of reporters at the White House on condition of anonymity. The GPS system is vital to commercial aviation and marine shipping. The president also instructed the Defense Department to develop plans to disable, in certain areas, an enemy's access to the U.S. navigational satellites and to similar systems operated by others. The European Union is developing a $4.8 billion program, called Galileo. The military increasingly uses GPS technology to move troops across large areas and direct bombs and missiles. Any government-ordered shutdown or jamming of the GPS satellites would be done in ways to limit disruptions to navigation and related systems outside the affected area, the White House said. ``This is not something you would do lightly,'' said James A. Lewis, director of technology policy for the Washington-based Center for Strategic and International Studies. ``It's clearly a big deal. You have to give them credit for being so open about what they're going to do.'' President Clinton abandoned the practice in May 2000 of deliberately degrading the accuracy of civilian navigation signals, a technique known as ``selective availability.'' The White House said it will not reinstate that practice, but said the president could decide to disable parts of the network for national security purposes. The directives to the Defense Department and the Homeland Security Department were part of a space policy that Bush signed this month. It designates the GPS network as a critical infrastructure for the U.S. government. Part of the new policy is classified; other parts were disclosed Wednesday. The White House said the policies were aimed at improving the stability and performance of the U.S. navigation system, which Bush pledged will continue to be made available for free. The U.S. network is comprised of more than two dozen satellites that act as beacons, sending location-specific radio signals that are recognized by devices popular with motorists, hikers, pilots and sailors. Bush also said the government will make the network signals more resistant to deliberate or inadvertent jamming. Just food for thought Travellers choose Canada to avoid US visa controls By Bernard Simon in Toronto Published: December 12 2004 21:41 | Last updated: December 12 2004 21:41 Air Canada is seeing an upsurge in business as passengers opt to fly via Canada rather than brave the tighter visa and security regime facing transit passengers at US airports. The company says a growing number of international passengers are choosing to travel via Toronto, Vancouver and Montreal rather than US cities. Ben Smith, Air Canada's vice-president of planning, said the airline's traffic destined for Latin America originating outside Canada had trebled in the first 11 months of this year, compared with January to November 2003. Passengers flying between Brazil and Japan made up a sizeable part of the extra traffic. US visa restrictions and airport congestion have “certainly been a positive for us”, he added. “Because of 9/11, we have got this extra traffic, which we weren't originally counting on.” The Air Transport Association in Washington, which speaks for US airlines, acknowledged that “several of our carriers have been impacted” by the new visa rules. However, one airline said: “We haven't seen as big a drop-off as we expected.” The US suspended its transit-without-visa programme in August 2003 as part of its intensified security since the September 2001 terror attacks. Passengers from many more countries, including Brazil, the Philippines and South Korea, now require transit visas. In addition, passengers passing through US airports face more stringent security checks and longer delays at immigration counters. Air Canada has greatly expanded its Latin American services over the past year, with the pace accelerating since it emerged from bankruptcy protection at the end of September. The airline began a daily service between Toronto and São Paulo on December 1. It has also launched flights over the past year to Peru, Chile, Argentina, Costa Rica, Venezuela and Colombia, as well as expanding services to Cuba. Air Canada's investment in Latin American routes means it is well placed to cash in at the expense of its US counterparts on the region's burgeoning trade and business ties with Asia, which were underlined by a string of recent trade pacts. Citing British Airways' decision to halt direct flights to Bogotá and Caracas next February, Mr Smith said Air Canada also aimed to carry more passengers between Heathrow and Latin America, changing planes in Canada. The new US visa requirements have also benefited Canada in other ways. Several Canadian universities are seeking to attract foreign students and researchers who might otherwise have attended US institutions. Canada has also become a base for some offshore outsourcing companies to serve US customers without their employees needing to enter the US. Nevertheless, many other Canadian companies, are concerned that tighter border security could severely jeopardise their business in the US.
