From my simplistic point of view - It shits on states like New Mexico. NM has less than 2 million people. New York City has 5 times that. As a candidate - where will you spend your time and money and whose issues are you going to listen to? A popular vote that way seems to me to be handing the reins of the country to California and New York - no thanks. (no offense to the nuts and yankees ) As much as I would love to see the two party system busted up - I don't think this is the way. I think the way lies in voter education and dedication of the third party members spreading the word. Probably most importantly is to get a candidate the people recognize and TRUST - something neither major party has right now imo. Jump Scars remind us that the past is real

I've also noticed that in photos of jumpers in freefall with soft handles, the handles are always out to the side - being moved around by the wind (see some of the pics of the arizona challenge in the latest skydiving magazine). I listen to NPR on the drive into work every morning. It takes me about an hour to drive to work so I get to listen to pretty much the entire cycle. This morning was the first morning in recent memory - at least 7 months - that I did NOT hear mention of John Kerry. Not a word. Nothing about the presidential race. I heard GWB many times, Saddam many times, Iraq many times, economy doing good many times. In my simple minded view of things it seems handing over Iraq and Saddam is bad for Kerry, good for Bush. When we rested during the long marches, they never did - always walking around tending broken marines. Same during the long exercises. You used to get this book in boot camp - dunno if they still get it or not - that we called the Red Monster. It had all sorts of knowledge in it. Every so often it would have a CMOH citation and I distinctly remember that many of them were for corpsmen. I wish I could find one of those Red Monsters.
