  1. Everyone has heard of "being in the lime light" but where did that come from? Turns out back in the day, the lights at the front of the stage had powdered limestone in them which was heated. Limestone is CaCO3 - calcium carbonate and when it is heated it will phosporesce - producing a nice bright glow, also known as limelight. Scars remind us that the past is real
  2. And if you happen to eat it on the landing, your arms are tucked safely out of the way for a nice plf instead of points sticking out to be broken off. Scars remind us that the past is real
  3. As I went by this morning, I had a thought - "how many wrecks are going to occur on 401 now due to the wind tunnel?" We should start a pool. You can see from the road right into the flight chamber - imagine someone who doesn't know what the building is - "Daddy, someone is hanging in mid air?" "WHAT?!" *CRASH!* (why can't we have batman type text?) Scars remind us that the past is real
  4. Yeah, I was expecting to hear from you again. I apologize for what I said, after re-reading the post, I realized you were attacking the argument and not me. I still personally believe it's long enough now. I have never seen an example to support the added wear argument and I still think unseen things can happen such as punctures from the outside, chemical intrusion, whatever... I can't say anything bad happened when it went from 60 to 120 days, and maybe 180 would be fine. But... if there is something wrong inside my reserve container, I like the odds of discovery before disaster better with a more frequent cycle. You could make a formula of cycle time/ jumps. If you make a jump a day, (and assuming a fatal error or damage in your reserve), would you rather make 120 jumps or 180. Do your odds of a mal or wrap change with jump frequency? Just food for thought... then why not repack your reserve every night if that is the argument? (just playing devils advocate here) Scars remind us that the past is real

  15. just a quick stroll thru the ASU campus illustrates that is a very real risk for any straight male... I'm taking evening classes at UofA, and while it was OK in the summer, now that the undergrads have started the semester again, well, its not OK anymore... I dont think skirts were that short when I was in school!!!!!! now you see one of the reasons I took that post doc there... jumping, good science, good weather and almost naked women at every turn.... 17. The straw that really broke the camels back was that EVERY single hand out they gave us yesterday had either a grammar or spelling mistake that I know spell check will catch. And then they are going to lecture us on proper forms and such? For the Harry Potter fans - this year is shaping up to be like Fred and George's last year at Hogwarts in the Order of the Phoenix - I feel a bit of a mischievous streak coming on Scars remind us that the past is real

  19. And in this book will be a chapter titled "How NOT to be a university faculty member" or "When to keep your mouth shut" OR "DON'T SAY THIS!" So after three days of driving back to NC from Eloy, I end up sitting in meetings at school all day long. Needless to say, I am not happy. Department meeting, then committee meetings, then finally a college level meeting where the dean is speaking. He tells us to do this, do that, can't do this, can't do that - honestly I felt quite silly being told some of these things - almost like a kindergartner...*inspiration strikes* At the end, the dean asks if there are any questions - my hand shoots into the air..."Have you built in any money and time for milk, cookies and a nap?" One of my friends on the faculty that knows me fairly well shoots me a look of horror as she knows what is coming. After a quizical look and a grunted "HUH?" from the dean, I continue - "well, if we are going to be treated as kindergartners, it would be nice to get some of the kindergarten amenities..." A few stifled laughs and stern talking to from my chair later, I am now assured that the dean knows who I am. So if you find yourself in a meeting, don't mention kindergarten - people take offense. 20. For the first time to refuse to put my seal on a rig. Not so much the rig as the jumper though. Did every thing I could to help him, was as polite as I could be given the circumstances but he insisted on being extremely rude and then saw fit to threaten me. So I told him in no way, shape or form was my seal going on his back and that I hoped he had not pissed off the other riggers. Scars remind us that the past is real
