  1. I thought it was going to be potty humor! I thought it was going to be a question on throw-outs
  2. don't you all have that sign at your dz too?
  3. I would think if you had some sort of generally unlandable fabric over your head trees would prolly come in handy to crash into, course if you had enough control at that point to voulantarily get over trees, you could prolly perform some sort of landing on flat ground that would hurt like hell but maybe not kill you. as for a total reserve mal, yeah I'd prolly start clawing frantically at my back. what do you think the critical angle is for water to make yourself skip (I've wiped going around 50 on a wave runner before skipping to a stop and was just kinda sore, didn't break anything.
  4. we have a core group of about half a dozen of us, and we jump essentially every weekend, so people that e-mail us about tandoms we usually have a pretty straight-forward time getting them out there pretty soon after they ask. The dropzone we go to (archway) runs first jump courses every weekend, and offers pretty good deals to our club members as thanks for the business. I'm pretty excited about it, and I'll be sure to post an update or two as the semester rolls on about how things are going.
  5. We have an event called quad day at our university where all the clubs set up tables and the thousands of people wander around the center of campus and ask questions and talk to the club heads. So as we felt was best, we made up flyers with contact info and the website, put up our banner, layed out e-mail signups, popped open a few issues of parachutist, and sat back and let people come to us. And I must say I'm surprised, I'm looking now at a list of about 600 names and e-mails of people who signed up to get our e-mails, and all of our I-forget-how-many flyers got snatched up well before the event was over. So now I ask the fun question... How many people do you think are interested enough to actually come out and make at least one jump? keeping in mind this is all college students we are talking about. I'm interested to see your guys' (and gals') predictions.
  6. yeah I had one where he cleared it hauling some serious ass, here's where he landed... http://chaz720.net/sa/shotput.jpg the score on that one wasn't very good but he skipped three times before coming to rest /edit: also fun: http://chaz720.net/sa/tail_stall.jpg
  7. my high score is a little over 60000, and it involved the guy clearing the wall completely.
  8. I don't know how many of you (or if anyone here) reads penny-arcade but that's where I got this link from. Truck Dismount the object of the game is to set up this truck, a couple of ramps, and a guy such that upon impacting a wall you cause the most injury to the man as possible. Fun for all ages.
  9. Thankfully I have not witnessed a fatality. Even more thankfully, there haven't been any at the two dropzones I've frequented since I started jumping last september.
  10. yes I realize the thread has completely derailed, but none the less... So I have my own domain and I used to just catch everything and dump everything to one e-mail, and that slowly turned into a s$%^-storm of spam (roughly 150-200 messages a day) which my filter did a decent job at catching, but I still had to download all of them, which even on DSL starts taking forever So I killed that address and started over, this time I made up specific names like citibank@, amazon@, etc for each legitimate site I needed an e-mail address. This way if I start getting spam again I can figure out exactly which bunch of bastards sold me out.
  11. you know, or we could have a thread about how cool rounds still are... I guess this works too.
  12. Getting a BS in Electrical Engineering @ UIUC I have one more year to go. will most likely work for a little while after I graduate and then I want to get a masters in Acoustics, probably from Penn State.
  13. one time after getting out of my car I noticed this kinda slow rattle sound that persisted for several seconds. I looked around and found that my antenna had come somewhat loose and was rocking back and forth. Not having a tool to tighten it up and not wanting it coming off when I was driving, I took it off the rest of the way and put it in my trunk. (I have an mp3 player so I usually just listen to that anyway.) yeah, that was around 2 years ago now... Now if I'm riding in someone else's car that only has radio I usually can't stand any of it, toss in the fact that 75% of it is either ads for nightclubs or promos for how few ads the station has and I'm glad I don't have an antenna.
  14. I'm a EE but I work with a bunch of Mechanical Engineers so every time I overhear the words "pin", "container", "door" etc. I start thinking about it, which is quite often. it really doesn't take much, I mean... nothing really prompted me to come to dz.com just now
  15. d'oh! you posted this about three months too late. I'm in plantation for the summer and I went out to pahokee pretty much every sunday I've been down here. However, I head back to sweet home Chicago the 9th so I can't really help you ah well, a lesson in patience...
  16. I'm guessing he just did a quick $3000 (ballpark used rig) / $25 (ballpark retal charge) = 120 jumps. yeah, if you tweak the numbers a little bit more like $3400 / $20 (which is about what my calculation looked like) you're closer to 170 jumps when it's "paid for"... Either way that's fine by me, just make sure if you buy a complete used rig you know the age and condition of all the components (ie, has the reserve had any rides? when was cypres manufacured? does it need new batteries soon?) you'll find your rigger is brimming with information about this kind of thing, and it never hurts to chat with them before spending hard earned money.
  17. Hey, you only need one stand-up landing for your A-license
  18. 5'8" or so and about 135 (read: any drag = floaty bastard)
  19. way too intoxicated to reply to this in a serious manner... I'm only 21, I plan to look good forever... I'll let you know how that goes
  20. okay, so far this weekend has -lots- of drinking, playing cards with friends, swimming naked in a pool, and a strip club... tomorrow we are going to the beach and to the clubs in south beach/miami... sunday is skydiving all day at pahokee... best. weekend. ever.
  21. I'm actually on my way out the door, figured I'd give you people something to talk about... UNTIL NEXT TIME...
  22. if you look at your dimmer switch it will most likely say something along the lines of WARNING: DO NOT USE WITH INDUCTIVE LOADS this means fans... and really, pretty much anything else that isn't a lightbulb. You should definitely use a normal light switch. also you may have had a dyslexic or colorblind electrician, so simple color matching may not be fool-proof. If you aren't sure, have someone look at it
