  1. whoa, it would seem I'm late to this one, everyone's already got it figured out. hmm... I'm looking at it... and I'm not seeing anything... if it's as lame as you guys say, maybe I'll come back to it in the morning. I'm tired, so even if it did jump out at me I'd probably miss it
  2. I had had the camera for about a week at that point and hadn't played much with it. There's no direct adjustment of the f-stop (it's a sony cybershot) but it does have an exposure value setting you can adjust to fix things like that. I'll be sure and play with it next time I get a subject like that. /edited to add: hey, fun toy. It gives you adjustments by 1/3s, and a pretty wide range of exposures.

    Red Rover Code

not really, all they are saying is you can convert the pattern into a series of octal digits, and then work on the digits as we did on the raw code. it would have made it a bit easier to keep track of if you were working with shorter strings. I mentioned earlier that I thought the code might have been octal but how I thought they used it was way off
  4. yeah, I'd say an angle from a bit lower could maybe provide for a more interesting background. The sun looks like it was at kind of an inconvienient angle from where you were... hey, while we're sharing squirrel photos... http://chaz720.net/sa/squirrel.jpg
  5. I always wear mine... I've never been in an accident driving or otherwise (knock on wood) but I think it has a better chance of helping me than not.
  6. ah, gotcha. I know most cars (the little ones anyway) have a retrieval hook on the underside in the rear and I figured they may have been using that. I'd think something like that would be designed to handle the stress involved with pulling the car out of a tight spot. of course, among the other things they were doing wrong, they were jerking at it, so that may have been their undoing.
  7. I can get past just about any politician's looks. If the guy walks around with his nose in the air smirking that's one thing, but comparing people to puppets (or *ahem* monkeys ) is pretty dumb.
  8. holidays in general are pretty stupid with the exception of possibly... independence day. I'd just as soon have my company ignore all holidays and give people an extra week of paid vacation per year. If they want to take Christmas off, fantastic. Want to have a bbq with your friends for memorial day? knock yourself out.

    Unbelievable?

Benny made a political comment and someone suggested he stopped talking about politics and work on his landings, and so on and so forth. IANAI but a 1:1 wingloading for a student is considered pretty aggresive by most manufacturers' standards. Also, I will tell anyone that asks me that it's better to change as little as possible at least until you have your license. IMO there's no reason to add variables to an already difficult to learn activity.
  10. if you don't know what you're doing you can set up any operating system incorrectly or write software for it that will make it crash. Microsoft is a victim of it's own success in this regard. Make a product that anyone can use, and less than savvy people will display error dialogues on billboards. On the other hand, some people also like using their computers to do something other than recompile their kernal every time they change their wallpaper.
  11. did the officer ever give him a reason for why he pulled him over? was he pulled over as part of a random road block? if no, I don't know that "the guy looked kinda young and I thought he might have been breaking curfew" is a valid reason to pull someone over. I'll bet he was going at least 1mph over though...
  12. if X=Y, then (X-Y)=0 on line 5 you divide by zero.
  13. first order of business: AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAH okay... I can't believe that you can attatch a cable to the recovery hook under the car (assuming they did, it looked like they did) and cause that much damage to a car.
  14. I've gotten three so far. Sometimes I can't believe how prolific viruses are when they depend on people to click on an unknown attatchment... I got about a dozen of the last one, the bagle worm or whatever it was called.
  15. definitely a vette. the lower corner of the door is a much sharper angle on the viper, and the viper's body panel that runs under the door continues on a straight line into the fender, on the vette (and in the photo) you see it curves up a bit around the door. That and- whoa there's a naked chick in the photo!
  16. Mcdonalds commercials should just air at 5:30pm. They should have a guy come on the screen with an all white background and say... "Okay, so you're home from work. Look at your kitchen, think of how much of a pain it is to make yourself anything decent. Now look at yourself, you'll probably make yourself ill if you're lucky. Face it, you're on a runaway train to buying fast food. I'm betting our fries look pretty good right now (have the guy produce a large fry from behind his back and start eating them noisily) Stop lying to yourself and come to McDonalds" Ba da ba ba ba, I'm lovin' it.
  17. Very cool, I really like the "multiple music video" format. It's great to see tandems having that much fun. And as others have mentioned, the face-skimming chow at the end is priceless.
  18. Patrick, you'll want to drop a line to Jason Mark if you have questions about your specific situation as it's his dropzone. But as long as you have a french license and your logbook you should have no trouble. If you need help getting down there or want me to introduce you around let me know and I'll be in touch.
  19. I propose more stringent vision screening.
  20. The really sad part is that nothing is going to happen here. The school used an idiotic misnomer in an effort to be politically correct, and when they were called out on it they suspended the kid. Wouldn't want him preventing the administration from taking advantage of such an excellent opportunity to stick their heads in their asses. And "reverse racism" is a ridiculous term that, to me, suggests hatred of white people is somehow different or even wellfounded. I have tall friends, short friends, black friends, asian friends, european friends, male friends, female friends, man's best friends, whatever. As someone said, if you're cool you're cool...
  21. I just called the chicago one and it says it had been changed to 773-509-5027, so I gave that a call and it rings through to about a minute long recording explaining the various things that may be wrong with you. This whole concept reminds me of the movie Swingers
  22. right, she won't know whether it's mindless banter or useful comments unless she reads it...
  23. There's only a handful of people that I'd lend things like my rig or my car to. I wouldn't want to deal with the possible pain in the ass for other people. I lent my camera to a roomate a couple years ago and gives it back to me minus the lens cap, conversation went something like this: RM: "Oh hey, here's your camera, thanks." ME: "Err, do you know what happened to the lenscap?" RM: "What lenscap?" ME: "The lenscap that was on it when I gave it to you..." RM: "Oh, I didn't notice, I'll stop by the store and get a new one." After a few weeks of reminding him I just gave up and decided it'd be easier to just never lend him anything anymore.
  24. hey, if he's got his own place in tokyo it probably means he's doing alright for himself.
