There were two types of lectures I had in undergrad. Those I felt were well done, that I enjoyed, and learned a lot in. I never missed them. Strangely, these professors never gave attendance quizes. Then there were those I felt were useless, serving to confuse, or offering little or no insight beyond what was in the textbook. When people asked questions the professor would defer them to his office hours, and steamroll on. The only reason I ever went to these lectures is because they were the ones chock-full of attendance quizes.

And the worst part about the last one? you're with her, and the two stores that don't get visited are EB Games and Sharper Image. aaargh!

This system also benefits from a sort of "rolling code", because when you hit the steering wheel you break your nose/eye sockets/cheekbones. So your signiture will be slightly different each time. The car is programed to figure out what the next smash will look like, based on how badly you disfigured yourself on the current one. It's almost impossible for a thief to replicate.

The latest in biometrics... You get in, and then smash your face against the steering wheel as hard as you can, a collection of sensors detects the signiture of the owner's facial smash, and enables the start button.

I agree, anytime life tosses us major events (particularly family entering and exiting our lives) our outlooks will change be it our intention or not. The choice to exhibit growth or regression is left as an exercise to those involved. -

When I'm up near the tandems and jump run is nearing, I'll usually wait for a moment when their TM isn't adjusting stuff and/or talking to them and include them in the handshake rounds. Otherwise it's probably best to let students be students and intstructors be instructors. -
What type terminations on the coax are we talking? F-type? N-type? SMA? BNC?

If I had a kid right now, and he or she asked me some deep question I didn't have an answer for, I'd most likely clutch my head between my hands and run screaming from the room... ...step one is probably getting impulses like that under control...

I, for one, welcome the cohesion of old TV series/specials to render seemingly new and yet suspiciously familiar television programming. I might even be willing to offer some further suggestions... -COPS: Girls Gone Wild Edition -Survivor: OZ -Steve Irwin's Croc Hunting in the West Wing ...the possiblities are limitless.

I'm young, have no children, and I feel I might be missing your point. Are you suggesting people without children are simply being too objective? -
Kinda the same concept as dropping a single sheet of plywood on a flat piece of concrete. you'll notice it doesn't hit the ground very hard. This is because the air underneath the plywood can only get out of the way so fast. Some air is trapped, becomes compressed, and slows the wood down before it impacts. Sometihng tells me even if you could build a formation this big, and keep it tight enough to prevent air from escaping other than around the edges, the air rushing out from underneath it would deform the formation (think: giant taco) and the entire next issue of parachutist would be incident reports.

Two great new comedies: "The Anchorman" and "Napolean Dynamite"

I rented these two movies at the same time. I started to watch Anchor Man, and when it got to the jazz flute scene I couldn't take anymore and had to turn it off. Will Ferrell doesn't belong at the center of a movie. He was funny in Old School and Jay and Silent Bob Strike back, but he makes you sick of him after about half an hour. Napoleon Dynamite I thought was well done, but it's not going to rub everyone the same way. -
