With all do respect, taking a word like that, and modifying the actual definition to make it what you believe it is is the cause of this whole thread to begin with. Xenophobia is fear and hatred of strangers or foreigners or of anything that is strange or foreign. (In case you missed my dictionary quote earlier.) It is NOT directed toward a specific foreign country, but ALL of them. But if you all want to use big words and made up definitions to make people sound bad. Well, I think you are blue-ist! Edit to add: Or maybe you are just Phobophobic

Ok I understood very little of it, but holy crap batman that was funny!

I agree with ya there. English sucks to learn. I actually completed all the coursework for my 2nd year of German in 3 weeks. Once you get the different tenses down, its much much easier than English. The unfortunate thing is, the US is not like Europe. I can't just go somewhere to practice. Getting over that ocean is a pain in the butt. I had no place to actually use my language skills. So most are forgotten.

They fly really funny when you cut their heads off.

*Cough* Don't you mean ours ? Anyway its suprising just how many French words are in the English language, and a few German ones too. *Cough* YOURS? Umm, English is a Germanic language with lots of french vocab.

Substitute American for French and I'll agree with you whole-heartedly. Of course you are correct, the door swings both ways.

In the first two incidents, it was widely agreed that the pilot did not put the a/c in the proper attitude prior to turning on the green light. A King Air needs to have flaps down on jump run, which enables the pilot to pitch the nose down, (and the tail up), while still maintaining altitude. We jump a King Air at our DZ. I was warned after my 1st or 2nd AFF not to Jump up after the JM's realized from my unintentionally strong exits that I had the potential to hit the tail.

I've gone more than 2 miles perp to jump run in 9000 ft of freefall.

How freaking closed minded is that man... if that not the hypocrite's definition of racism, I dont know what is..... Its not racism dude, its personal experience. You think I should have a rosy attitude toward the french when the only french people I have ever met trampled over my polite overtures to make known they were complete asses? I have not formed this opinion on a single experience, but on several. It has nothing to do with race. Thats like calling me homophobic. Its the attitude that "Your a savage sub-human if you don't speak French." Even if you are in small-town, rural US. I'm nice to strangers, I expect the same in return. I've received nice in return from all the foreign tourists I've met. Europeans in general are the nicest people I have ever met. The BIG exception--every single french speaking tourist I have ever met. Basing my outlook on a few bad apples? Maybe. That's why I say, show me some nice french people and I will change my attitude. Edit to add: If I was racist I wouldn't care if you showed me a nice french person.

BINGO! Thanks JDBoston.

[reply I've seen those sentiments posted today in Talk Back. Well I've said that the french people I have ever had to opporunity to meet were just asses. I don't hate them because they are foreign, I dislike them because they are asses. That's not xenophobia. Show me some nice french people, and I'll probably change my attitude.

Do you barrel roll before deployment?
BlueEyedMonster replied to PhillyKev's topic in Safety and Training
Where I jump, there are not that many large groups.. on those loads, the group takes almost the whole load, so horizontal separation is not an issue. I look down and make sure I am not over anyone, and I give a good visible wave off and a couple second delay for anyone above me. I trust the people I jump with. I have to. And, if there is someone I don't trust. I make sure to track way clear perp. to jump run right after exit. Quite honestly, with the quickness of a barrel roll, I question the effectiveness. They eyes have to adjust to the brighter sky, refocus for distance and locate a small object. Not to mention figure out distance and angle. I do not think the accuracy necessary is possible under the circumstances. Not to mention it being worth the lost altitude. Where I jump, with the people I jump with, I just do not believe a barrel roll is necessary. However I do practice the skill, and will use it when I jump in situations were it may be necessary. -
I don't think what you are talking about qualifies as xenohobia. I believe it is specific to one country/culture. And, as I linked in a previous thread, this has a factual foundation, and is a backlash to an overzealous enthno/linguistic-centric attitude on the part of the "victims." http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=577086#577086

"as if this has ever happened to me" I'll give up my allotment to the highest bidder.

Heck, Maybe, in addition to TalkBack, we should have a Jerry Springer area. Then we could combine "Air your dirty Laundry" with "Other Little Punishments."

1:0:0 on the first one. So now I have this wuffo that I have to convince to jump out of a plane. I never made it to the DZ this weekend. Had to stay home and get the apt ready for the family next weekend. But, now I have lots of extra jump tickets!

Well for me, and many other people, this disdain for things french have been around longer than the current political spat. Quite honestly, the only experiences I have ever had with french speaking people were negative. The first, when I was 17, was when I was working in a restaurant in a small town in Wisconsin. I went to take an order at a table, and they started speaking to me in french. I was polite and apologized that I couldn't speak the language. But, then I got yelled at... These people started chewing my @ss because I couldn't speak french. The whole experience was not good. Quite honestly they were the rudest bunch of jerks I had ever seen. Now if this incident was isolated, no problem. But, it has not been. Even the French government acknowledges the rudeness of its own people. Did you know they have begun a media campaign to try to get French people to smile and be nicer to tourists? http://abcnews.go.com/sections/wnt/World/frenchkiss_030616.html

Preserved in Museums... Global communication is becoming more and more necessary. Translating everything into multiple languages is a huge waste of resources. Some day, everyone will speak one language, so we can all easily communicate. I don't think french people like that idea very much. You can fight progress, you can delay progress, but it will win in the end. Languages have been dying out for years. French will be the one of the last, but its days are still numbered.

Do you barrel roll before deployment?
BlueEyedMonster replied to PhillyKev's topic in Safety and Training
I do not barrel roll because I track flatter than the other jumpers. At breakoff, I turn and track.... and watch the other jumpers fall below me and to the sides. -
NOPE going to couch freaks
