  1. oh, there is nothing more boring or bland then discussing investing for the future. But he nomber one cause of bankruptcy in the US is medical bills. And, you keep saying that your not going to live till your 80, well so what are you going to do when you bust your ass skydiving, get in a car accident, or simply cant work. Will sitting in a tin box at the DZ be a life that you want. Not bashing on you, just trying to get you to think totally, and not incompletly. But then again, I make money from renters who will never be able to stop paying rent because of thier lack of planning, so...carry on.
  2. oh, no personal judgement taken. whatever they leave the kids, there are 8 of us, is a bonus. my parents are the type that dont like to spend over $4 for a dinner...I keep telling them to spend it, I dont need it. It i too easy to make money in the US. The have finally taken my urge, and are traveling, and setting up college funds for my siblings kids.

  4. Dude, ever heard of a long term terminal illness? The money your parents have now can be consumed by medical bills. If you are planning on your inheritance for retirement, you had better do some finacial planning with your parents, now. As in trust acounts, extreme medical insurance, general insurace (anybody can get sued and loose it all). I mention all this because it is exactly what my parents have done. They have done very well coming from depression era farming families. So, to insure that the government or the hospital does not consume all thier hard work they have started investment accounts in the trust just to handle the estimated inheritance taxes on thier investments. (you can shelter more in a trust) They have purchased insurance for home medical care, and supplemental insurance. Trust me, you need to plan for these expenditures. To live in the moment takes cash flow. Purchase rentals, get positive return on your money, and equity growth. You can spend the positive cash flow like a paycheck, or save it. I feel that being able to live in the moment is the ability to direct your life, day to day, moment by moment. You will never, ever be able to do this....working for someone else. just my 2 cents (which will be worth 3 cents tommorrow) ________________________________ Where is Darwin when you need him?
  5. Why live like a bum...make the 25K work for you...after all, you worked for it. Well maybe, depends if it was just handed to you. I sold a collector car I have restored for 35k, paid off school, (had 25 k left, no bills) and got into real estate...make it happen, or you will be broke and living in a tin box. But if that is ok, than carry on.
  6. After my freshman year, I took time off and went to work for Microsoft. I went back to school because I wanted to make my family happy. What a stupid dumb retard asshole move. I made more that year than I have in the four years since. The only person you have to impress is yourself. That said, college for me means exactly what it was ment to, I work in the field I studied, for myself, and manage my business better due to my education. I do feel that specialized degrees are the way to go. The broad degrees like "business" or "history" can be non directional. ________________________________ Where is Darwin when you need him?
  7. because I now know what a PC feels like when you hit "CTRL-ALT-DELETE." totally reset
  8. check the montly rate online, then call. sometimes the online rate is better. also, there are plenty of knockoff hotels with kitchens that offer monthly rates, but the clientel may very. i would roll into town with 3 or 4 hotel picked out, then pick the one that has an agree-able location and clientel. good luck.
  9. Looks like Mequite is about 100 miles from LV. Is that the place to go? i hear its a good place, but also, perris and elsinore are 270 miles...a good weekend run. ________________________________ Where is Darwin when you need him?

  11. Anything that you dont spend, you are supposed to claim as income. My per diem was just deposited weekly into an account. Now, did I spend it all? Uh sure, why of coarse I did, yep, every penny, Mr. IRS man. But also. Each city has a daily allowed per diem amount determined by the IRS. So, if the IRS has the same amount set as you recieve, you do not have to claim it, even if you dont spend it. You are allowed to write it off. Now, my per diem never showed up on a W-2, so it was very convienant. ________________________________ Where is Darwin when you need him?
  12. i worked on the road for 5 years...getting basically the same per diem. if you are going to stay at a hotel, look for the extended stay, studio 6, or simular brand, you can get great monthly rates, and they have kitchenets so you can cook in house, alot cheaper and healthier than eating out. when i was on the road, i never touched my salary for expenses, invested it all in rentals...do it now, and dont work later.
  13. "Get the proper instruction! " while I totally and fully agree that you should get the proper instruction, it may depend on the type of rig he was flying. I fly a 2 seater weight shift trike, my instructor sat in the back to give lessons, and could fully control flight from the rear seat, i have dual throttle controls and trainer bars. however, many many ultralights are single seat, so the first time you fly, your up by yourself...after ground school. incidently, you can only legally fly with a passenger/instructor if one person has either a BFI (basic flight instructor) or sport pilot rating or higher. ________________________________ Where is Darwin when you need him?

  15. i know a guy who is selling a PPG for 4500, used 3 hours. he cant fly it due to back injury. ________________________________ Where is Darwin when you need him?
  16. yawn... i almost went with a PPG...but decided on the weight shift instead. more stability, able to handle turbulance a bit better, can fly in more conditions, and double the cruising speed. ________________________________ Where is Darwin when you need him?

  20. uh, did you understand the term flourinated water when you were 2 years old. i would say it depends on her age. oh, and, I am an American...and I dont blame anyone for anything. ________________________________ Where is Darwin when you need him?
  21. yes, agreed. Does the FDA regulate bottled water? I am one of those "drink from the hose" people, but then again, I have lived in great water districts. When working on the road, and moving often, we had to switch to bottled water because changing locations (states) weekly led to upset stomachs for us, and our dogs who traveled with us. Once we went on one type of water, the walmart special brand, all upset stomachs went away. We were clued in on this from a vet we had taken our dogs too for having diarreha all the time. ________________________________ Where is Darwin when you need him?
