  1. So what does USPA say about very low experience jumpers? Right? Guess they are excluded... Mykel AFF-I10 Skydiving Priorities: 1) Open Canopy. 2) Land Safely. 3) Don’t hurt anyone. 4) Repeat…
  2. I was thinking that flying meant that gaining altitude was a requisite as well but it was not indicated in the dictionary.

    Well said - worth repeating...
  6. Congrats! Keep up the good fight! It starts off so cool, then we spend the rest of our lives quitting and even after 5 years active addiction is only a puff away... It is a terrible addiction.
  7. Think its a combination of all the choices! So confusing!
  8. I was abducted by an alien, and received an anal probe. Unfortunately it was my uncle Juan! I can still hear him whispering in my ear: "If you tell your mother I'll kill you! So I usually just tell my uncle that we have to stop meeting this way!
  9. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! Sad but true, me too but it dosent reach my keyboard unless I am standing right over it!
  10. According to Websters, I believe it is both... Flying: 1 a : to move in or pass through the air with wings b : to move through the air or before the wind or through outer space c : to float, wave, or soar in the air Falling: 1 a : to descend freely by the force of gravity

  12. It's also the tandem students problem. I really don’t know the answer to this but perhaps someone here does, so let me shoot a hypothetical question: Let’s say this DZ were jumping a certain type of tandem rig and the owner of the company who makes the equipment were to read this thread and decide to take action for the DZ not adhering to the safety standards required for them to use the gear. Even though the gear had been paid for can the gear be repossessed or would there just be some sort of fine? What would happen to the license of a TI who knowingly allows an unqualified individual to shoot video in freefall with them? If there were an accident involving an unqualified videographer, who would be liable in court? The DZO? The TI? At Any Rate: Does everyone remember when they still had a "teen" at the end of their age? It might be further in the past for some but we were all there once. I know when I was there no one could tell me shit; I was 10 feet tall and bullet proof not to mention infallible. When I was a teen, there was nothing I was not absolutely perfect at, no need for humility when perfection is the game eh? I suspect the young man who started this thread is enjoying the attention. There is nothing that we can say to change his course so let’s hope and pray that he never injures or kills anyone including himself and he becomes the ultra awesome slice of perfection he sees when he looks in the mirror. USA could use some gold at the world meet. So even though I do not agree that you should be flying with tandems (not because you are a youth but because you do not have the jump numbers to do it by the book) just know that I am pulling for ya Jarrett, just keep it safe ok? Please just consider not jumping with tandems until you are qualified (by the book) and take some time to work on your skills – I certainly do not doubt that you have the skills you claim but if god forbid there should be an accident your ass will be covered. If there is any way I can assist you in becomming safer and better please do not hesitate to PM me, I am willing to share any knowledge I possess with you. We were all there once and sometimes still are... Mykel AFF-I10 Skydiving Priorities: 1) Open Canopy. 2) Land Safely. 3) Don’t hurt anyone. 4) Repeat…
  13. Conway was a good guy, a good skydiver and a good friend. After we spread his mother’s ashes I included the footage of the dive in a larger edit for Conway and his friend Rico (who was injured in a landing accident). I took the excerpt of his mothers memorial dive and posted it where others can download it if anyone is interested in seeing it. Go to: www.mykelpoole.com The ash spreading skydive for Conway’s mother is in the lower right hand corner, right click the image and save the file to your hard drive as it will only be there for a limited amount of time. Miss you Conman, thank you for being a really good friend and all that you did to help me when I was going through my surgery. Your friend always, Mykel
  14. Actually, I dont think this one is totally untrue, just exaggerated.
  15. I do not understand this statement, please clarify.
  16. Ther reason we peel the cutaway pillow is because the velcro can sometimes be difficult to extract without "peeling" as one side of the velcro is mounted to the cutaway pillow. When using a metal reserve handle there is no need to peel as there is no velcro attached to the metal reserve handle. Just push the reserve handle and the metal will go right through the velcro. At least I think I said this right. Mykel AFF-I10 Skydiving Priorities: 1) Open Canopy. 2) Land Safely. 3) Don’t hurt anyone. 4) Repeat…
  17. Dont think of arching perse - We are usually vertical when dealing with this stuff and you are right, it can be difficult - Rather than busting out a hard arch, simply push your hips forward. When the reserve handle is being pushed then go into the "hard arch". Mykel AFF-I10 Skydiving Priorities: 1) Open Canopy. 2) Land Safely. 3) Don’t hurt anyone. 4) Repeat…
  18. You are totally correct Stratostar. Not really a blame game but we can try to illustrate, in retrospect, the learning of better judgement. When I think back to when I was new to the sport and did not yet have the experience to make good safety calls on my own I would often times, no, always get on the plane, even when I was given the suggestion to sit one out. There were many times when I would go to work Monday morning sporting injuries that would have been totally avoided had I had the maturity to make better judgement calls for myself but gosh darnet, I needed to get on every load I could and did not consider the potential ramifications of jumping in conditions I was not ready for. So it is hard to play the role I do now sometimes, because I know that I was a reckless as they come but maybe it will help someone else come to realizations quicker than I did. Know what I am saying? Not trying to be an asshole for the sake of just giving someone a hard time - Maybe I dont always go about it the best way but I really do care...
  19. This is a great point, I think perhaps it is the primary lesson. Getting on the first load was a questionable decision due to the wind conditions, but then to get on another load with no penetration due to winds on the prior jump was a downright poor decision. Section 2 Page 7 of the USPA SIM clearly states the wind conditions for students and non-licensed skydivers. F. WINDS Maximum ground winds 1. For all solo students a. 14 mph for ram-air canopies b. 10 mph for round reserves 2. For licensed skydivers are unlimited The issues at deployment time should have not even been an issue that had taken place had the guidelines in the SIM been adhered to. 20. I have around 2200 jumps on the same Stroboframe and have never had any issues. Something caused the break or factory defect? Mykel AFF-I10 Skydiving Priorities: 1) Open Canopy. 2) Land Safely. 3) Don’t hurt anyone. 4) Repeat…
  21. The titler is premiere is okay, it has a lot of options. If you have photoshop and know how to use it you can also launch a new file and select the DV with guides and make sure you have the transparent background selected. The guides are your safe frame area, make certain all test and graphics are within that area. In Premiere you can import a saved PSD file. Using photoshop will give you a lot more control over the title imagery. I use a combination of the Titler in Premiere and Photoshop documents depending on the type of imagery needed.
