Well, I did have premature brake release last week. Did a bit of spinning, yes. Perhaps its time to consider a color change...
-
I have only 65 jumps and my gear all matches. Kinda. And I had to paint my own helmet to make it fit the color scheme No patches though and I only own 1 of each thing!
-
I've never heard of this one. Where do they do this and what is the secret color coding scheme? For all I know, my colors are proclaiming that I'm the ultimate expert! I'm a long way from that but I'm not changing my colors even if they do say that What would Royal Blue, Gold, and Black signify? With my luck it means I'm a putz
-
We can color you? I like "What the F***ing Freaky Crap" myself. As in "WFFC is goin on here?!?" But it actually means "World Freefall Convention"

Well, I could always lay a $10.00 bill on someone and tell them to buy it. Then the beer is still "on me" without my having to buy of consume it. If I cant drink it they aint getting top shelf beer and thats that Is that acceptible?

It would be more fun if, instead of suggesting it compassionately, you suggested it rediculously or absurdly. I dont need more compassion in my life, I need more laughing You just cant get too much of that

Hmmm. Looking at your avatar I would have thought you would be buying an Icarus canopy

Doh! This looks suspiciously like advertising

Not bad..cept for them chicken legs -
Landed out for the first time today. I'm a recovering alkie so NO BEER! This was a "Duh!" mistake. I opened plenty high but I spent too much time playing around with my canopy. Having way too much fun. Suddenly I'm at 1500 ft and there aint no way in hell I'm makin in back. So I pick my landing area, a small field next to a road, come in over the road and make the most beautiful landing I ever could imagine making dead bang in the center of the field. I'm thinking that after boning many landings in plain sight of everyone at the DZ since I returend to jumping last month after an 8 year lay off that it just figures that this landing would only be witnessed by god and some bugs. Then I turn around and theres a couple car loads of like 5 and 6 year old kids parked on the shoulder that had pulled over to watch me come in. They were all clapping at my sweet landing I gathered up my stuff and walked over and said hi. Then they all split except for one lady and her kid that offered to give me a lift back and then a kind soul showed up from the DZ to get me. I said my thanks and headed back. I guess this was my first demo too.

I'll tell ya what do do. Go skydiving. I jumped at Cross Keys (Your home DZ) Saturday, the Thursday before, and I'm heading over there again tomorrow. I wear: 1 pair long johns (top and bottom) 1 base layer thermal shirt 1 tee shirt 1 light windbreaker 1 regular poly-cotton jumpsuit 1 pair of jeans 1 pair football gloves 1 pair cheesy convienience store work gloves 1 balaclava 1 helmet/goggles Layers is the key. This sounds like a lot but they are light layers and I'm not overly bulky or restricted in my movements. Most importantly, and althought I dont know what the temp was at altitude (it was near freezing on the ground so it had to be close to 0 degrees farenheit) I was warm and comfortable even under canopy. Go skydiving.

Premature brake deployment on tru-lock toggles
Blahr replied to Blahr's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Yes, it's also the way most jumpers deal with excess brake lines. This is good to know. Fact is I really didnt know this. I've had 2 rigs and both of them had a place for excess line. I just assumed that all rigs did. I think if I get in the habit of making assumptions in this sport I may not be in it for too long -
Premature brake deployment on tru-lock toggles
Blahr replied to Blahr's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
An interesting addendum to my post. I open ed the rig today to practice PRO packing and found that the packers apparently dont do anything at all with the excess brake line. No attempt at all was made to stow the line in the keepers on the opposite side of the risers. It was just all left hanging lose. From what I saw when I pulled out the main, this could very easily drag the toggle out of the keeper and let the brake release on opening. Is this the way all packers deal with excess brake line? I sure hope not and I plan to talk to someone at that DZ about it next time I go there. -
Say! That a pretty simplistic point of view! Too bad its not that clear cut. Also, you left out the part where your neighbor regularly tortured, abused, and killed the members of his household that didnt agree with everything he said. That changes a lot in my opinion.

Premature brake deployment on tru-lock toggles
Blahr replied to Blahr's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Absolutely. I accept that the primary responsibility for this event lies with me, as it does with every single jump. Actually I normally pack my own, I flat pack, and I'm very slow, and this was my first time at a DZ that was not my home DZ. At this location everyone PRO packs and I didnt want to stick out like a sore thumb so I just handed it off to the packer without using my brain first. I'm spending the day today learning to PRO pack so the issue will likely be moot in the future BUT it was a good lesson learned. -
Premature brake deployment on tru-lock toggles
Blahr replied to Blahr's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Anyone ever had a premature brake deployment with brand new tru-lock toggles? I did yesterday. It was exciting for a few seconds but I got it squared away fast enough. I am trying to figure out if that can happen by accident or if it was an error on the part of the packer. This is a completely brand new rig every piece and it has tru-lock toggles (no velcro) I can say for a fact that the toggles fit snugly into the keepers and the pins are nice and tight in their slots. I am leaning towards believing that the packer didnt set them properly but I'm interested in hearing some other 3rd party opinions. Cheers, Chris -
Damn, it's going to be cold!!!

The faceshield on my Bonehead Havoc iced up in freefall last week. It was pretty unnerving. -
I have been off them for 3 years after 25 years of a 2 pack a day habit. All you have to do is WANT IT. Keep yourself busy No alcohol for a couple weeks, drinking will kill your effort. Dont forget that you are stronger than the monkey.
-
Did you get them to whitewash yer fence? You sound a lot like Tom Sawyer

Much ado about nothing. I see them a lot and I pass them without a second thought. To those that posted that it is very irritating, you may want to consider how marvelous your life must be if you can spare time and energy to be irritated over 4 silly words. Then you can rejoice in your beautiful life every time you see them instead of being irritated. Ban someone for posting IBTL? People have posted actual pictures of their genitals here. Thats rediculous, but its permitted. But you cant post IBTL. Gimme a break people These forums are cool, dont wreck them with that kind of crap.

Went to Cross Keys for the first time today. ROOT BEER! Sorry I dont drink alcohol Got there right when they opened (9:00) hoping to make a few but sadly there were no jumpers there. They finally put a load together (a teeny load) around 12:30 after a student arrived to make a tandem. Since I had to leave early afternoon I only managed to get on the one load. Still, thats better than no loads A Caravan with only 4 jumpers gets to 13,500 ft damn fast :-) Lots of leg room too! I'm used to a Cessna 182 with 5 - 6 jumpers packed in that takes about 4 days to get to 10k.

That sounds like my first rig...

You would have to have been going faster than 78 mph vertically through 750 ft for the cypres to fire. Given that you pulled at 1100 and were in the saddle at 800 ft (can you say "ouch"?), you did NOT meet the requirements to activate the cypres. Your post seems to indicate that you believe it should have fired. From everything I have heard and read, it should NOT have fired under the circumstances that you described.

I had 57 jumps, my A license, and 8 years since my last jump until Nov 1 this year when I made a comeback. I sat through the FJC at my old DZ to refresh, did a 2 way AFF style recurrency jump with 1 instructor in which all I did as fall, do a couple practice pulls/touches, and then just stay on heading with a steady fall rate until pull time. All went well and she cleared me to return to regular jumping. I hooked up a couple coached jumps after that to get even more "back up to speed" and I've been makin a couple each week since then. If you have access to your old instructors, talk to them and see what they think. They may remember how you were doing before you laid off and have a good notion of the best way to bring you back in. If they arent available, talk to the current instructors and be very honest about where your skills were before you stopped and about how long its been since you last jumped.
