Taking advantage? Why would I think they're taking advantabe of the situation? I live in Alaska. The gasoline I use in my truck was taken from the ground here in Alaska and refined here in Alaska. Gas went up 12 cents/gallon yesterday. Some of the price hike is justified.... a lot of it, if not all of the price hike in Alaska, is gouging. SmugMug

Better check again. When I flew Crazy Horse in '95 it was $1650/hour...when I talked to Lee in 2001 it had gone up to $2500/hour. SmugMug

If we divided Alaska, Texas would the the 3rd largest state. SmugMug

Probably not BS. I'd be a little concerned about dumping fuel if I had an engine on fire. Good chance the landing was over max allowable landing weight, good chance that caused the tire to blow. I worked Crash/Rescue for 20 years...saw this happen more than once when an aircraft landed at high weights and/or high landing speeds. SmugMug

hehe Was recerting my BLS/CPR stuff. Class being taught by an RN that worked with my wife. We were doing the infant choking scenario..I picked the doll up and swung it like that to "clear the airway". I thought for a moment I was going to have to do CPR on the instructor. SmugMug

Probably real, but posed with the hunter well behind the moose to make it appear bigger OR that's the biggest friggin moose to walk the surface of this planet. SmugMug

The fact that the airplane wouldn't stay at 41K has nothing to do with it crashing. It couldn't maintain altitude because it wasn't making enough power (due to the high altitude, just like a Cessna at 15K )to stay at that altitude. It crashed because the engines quit. Apples and oranges. SmugMug

What makes you think they didn't "kow what the plane will and won't do"? They simply flew the airplane to it's FAA certified maximum altitude. There was nothing "wrong" with what they did. SmugMug

That is the field I fly from. I've done considerable short/soft field work with a 182 or 206. Just this spring the runway was very wet/soft the first weekend we were open. All takeoffs were classic "soft field" takeoffs...stall horn blaring, liftoff at minimum airspeed. One thing however, if properly done the stall horn quits almost as soon as you're off the ground. To keep the AOA that high hinders your ability to climb due to the drag produced. Are you saying Vx may not be obtainable until after clearing the obstacle? If so you should probably stay in the hangar and drink beer while the mechanic takes the wings off so you can truck the airplane to a longer runway. IMO it would be poor judgement to attempt the takeoff....expecially with paying passengers. For those that don't know: Vy = Best rate of climb...the most altitude in the least time Vx = Best angle of climb...the most altitude in the least distance. Jump planes should normally be flown at Vy/Best Rate. If I was on a load and the pilot had the stall horn sounding steadily/constantly during the climb I would ask him to make a pass over the DZ as soon as he had 2k or so and I would get out. The guy is trying to kill you. I've flown over 3500 loads in 182/206 a/c. The stall horn never sounds except sometimes on takeoff or if we get a sharp hit of turbulence. SmugMug

It doesn't look right. The airplane that pulls up starts behind lead and pulls vertical...shouldn't be out front as is shown in the photo. SmugMug

I was in the Atlanta airport a few years ago. Went in the head, standing at the urinal with my laptop right next to my leg. Some guy comes in behind me and walks directly toward me bending down and grabbing my laptop as he turns back toward the exit. I caught him at the door when he "failed to negotiate the turn" hitting the wall. He was still unconscious when the medics took him away. The officer who handled the call knew the guy by name, he was one of their regular pickpockets/thieves. SmugMug

Not to be a downer, but be prepared for it to take longer than 6 months. I had my shoulder done a couple of years ago...it was almost a year before it was back 100%. I was doing PT, etc....it just takes a while for a shoulder to be "right" again. Glad I had the surgery however, no more pain, everything works well. SmugMug

Probably not. Climb is a function of excess power. The STOL mods will help it get off the ground quicker but will not double or triple the climb...unless these guys have discoved some new magic. The winglets should help a little since they reduce some drag...reduced drag means less power needed so more available for the climb. Of course, the winglets add weight, more weight means the wing has to make more lift, making lift creates drag....hmmmmm. Back where we started. The best way to improve the climb is to throw the fat bastards off the load. SmugMug

I do not!! I'm always no less than the FAR prescribed minimum!! SmugMug

Ya know, 8-10 minutes is plenty of time to boil an egg. I burned some microwave popcorn last week. Trying boiling some water with a bit of lemon juice in it...the wife did that and it defunkedt he microwave nicely...helped the rest of the house smell somewhat better. You might also get some Ozium. It's an aerosol room de-stinker. The fire department used them in an apartment I had once after the refrigerator cooked off...worked wonders. Oh yeah, lot's of supermarket sell eggs that are already boiled for you. SmugMug

I need some pics (or links to them) of damage done to aircraft by premature openings, deployement over the tail, etc. 'Tis for a Safety Day brief. (It comes late in the northland) Thanks in advance!! SmugMug

Look again at the law: (a) An offender commits the crime of sexual assault in the first degree if (1) the offender engages in sexual penetration with another person without consent of that person; (2) the offender attempts to engage in sexual penetration with another person without consent of that person and causes serious physical injury to that person; In my state (Alaska) there is no such thing as rape...all the offenses are sexual assualt. Gender doesn't matter. SmugMug

I was first CPR/Basic Life Support certified 25 years or so ago. Since then I've performed CPR about 10 times (don't remember for sure) and so far I'm batting 1000. Not a single person I performed CPR on survived. But at least I tried. SmugMug

A lot of burglaries are done when the badguy finds a door unlocked. I wouldn't take his story at face value. Seasoned burglars have an "excuse" ready to use if they're caught. SmugMug -
Big difference between a CFI, who knows what's going on with the aircraft, and a passenger who may not know about systems changes, etc. SmugMug

Hmmm, I would notice. And after you explained that you had pulled it I would explain to you why you would never again ride in an a/c I was flying. SmugMug
