Chris was killed yesterday in Bahgdad by an IED. He was a SSGT Paratrooper from Ft. Richardson, Alaska. He had a wife and 2 young daughters. He was a skydiver here in Alaska, I flew as he made his first freefall. This sucks. SmugMug

Pay the speeding ticket and go on, or go to court...
akjmpplt replied to gontleman's topic in The Bonfire
Having been to traffic court many, many times as an officer I can tell you what a lot of people do..they don't dispute that they commited the offense, they give an excuse why they did it or why the court should excuse it...neither of which is the judge really interested in. If you go to court do one of two things...fight the ticket or ask the court for mercy and request an alternate method of "payment" such as traffic school. SmugMug -
What's the coldest temperature you've ever seen where you live?
akjmpplt replied to BillyVance's topic in The Bonfire
At my house in Chugiak, AK -35..didn't get above -20 for about 2 weeks. At Clear, AK where I was working 1 year ago...-56 two nights in a row. So cold that my radiator "slushed" up driving at highway speeds...had to drive about 40 until it "warmed up" to -38..then things were fine. When in the Army I jumped on the Yukon river at Galena, AK..was -47 when we stepped out of the door and got down to -65 that night. I'm planning on buying a boat and living in the BVI until I thaw out. SmugMug -
It IS a 207. This happened here in Anchorage, the airplane belonged/belongs to Spernak Air. SmugMug

Yeah. Air Taxi, ran out of gas. SmugMug

Define weird. My oral board to get on the police department went something like this: Them: Have you ever engaged in any unusual sex acts? Me: What do you consider unusual Them: You tell us. Me: In that case...No. SmugMug

Anyone can do any of the work done on an aircraft. However, the work must be supervised and "signed off" by either an A&P or A&P/IA. There are some things the pilot can do without supervision and they are listed in the FARs. SmugMug

bomber jumps- when and where?
akjmpplt replied to countzero's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
You must of been distracted, there were 3 nude women on that jump. (As copilot I was required to know these things) SmugMug -
The parachutes used in 1945 were most likely the T-5. It used a 100lb "break" tie, opened canopy first and didn't use a deployment bag. SmugMug

Once arrested a fiesty little guy named Peter Woodcock. ...and a woman named Galadria Goodbitch (this one was an alias) SmugMug

You're drunk #5 might have been drunk, now he's just dead. Notice the blood? SmugMug

The dog is just doing dog stuff. Electrify the toilet to give the owners a jolt and teach them a lesson. SmugMug

The airplane could care less how many people are in it and in some ways the heavier you are the "safer" you are. Airspeed is the limiting factor. Unless you're using a real short runway not having flaps shouldn't have been a big deal. IMO landing without flaps presents much less risk than opening the door with a possible open container in the airplane. SmugMug

Who investigates stolen items from checked-in bags?
akjmpplt replied to Orlando's topic in The Bonfire
This isn't interstate commerce. It's a private person flying on a mode of transportation. The Feds could care less. Report it to the local law enforcement agency. They should take a report. They may be working similar cases. For the 20 years I worked as a cop at a large airport that's the way we did it. Don't hold out a lot of hope to get your stuff back however. One problem is figuring out where the theft occured. SmugMug -
How could the FAA impose a fine on a DZ? They can take action against a pilot. SmugMug

If he didn't say anything about coming in on Monday I would say that yes, it is bad. SmugMug

What altitude do you remove your seatbelt?

If the door is closed why not leave it on? SmugMug -
What altitude do you remove your seatbelt?
akjmpplt replied to salling772's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
As someone who's landed an airplane after an engine failure on takeoff - twice - I suggest that in a single-engine jump plane you leave the belts on until 2500' or so. In a 182/206/etc with an engine failure at 1000' you'l lbe lucky to have the first guy out of the airplane above 800'...the last guy is going to be much lower. Power off that thing is coming down at better than 1000 fpm. I know, I know it only takes you .0045 nanoseconds to get to the door. That's AFTER you decide to actually go, after you get over the shock of what's happening (everyone will have than minidelay of OH SHIT) and you might not be the first guy in line. How many people are comfortable, or really able, to get out of the airplane below 2000'? Most people, due to the parachutes now being jumped, are pulling higher and exiting higher on intentional low jumps. Just something to think about. Small airplane it only takes a slight hesitation by one person to put you in a position of making a really, really low jump or trying to get strapped back into the airplane before the crash. Operating a Plane Without Flaps?
akjmpplt replied to karenmeal's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Short answer is NO. If the flaps are not functioning properly then the aircraft is considered non-airworthy and it is not legal to fly it. Legality aside IMO you'd be pushing to fly the airplane without flaps. If the runway is of sufficient length you can takeoff and land fine in a 182 without flaps. But suppose the engine fails shortly after takeoff and you have to make an off-airport landing? You'll then be wishing you had the flaps since you will be able to touch down much, much slower with flaps than without. No flap off field landing would have a much higher risk of injury/death/aircraft damage. Fix the flaps, they're not that hard to fix. SmugMug -
50 bucks a jump for coahcing?
akjmpplt replied to diverdriver's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
BS. My "big time job" is as a jump pilot. It took a lot of "hours" that I paid for to get into the pilot seat of the jump plane. Anyone want to compensate me for that time? SmugMug -
My sleddogs got a diet that was very high in fat. On of the trail treats were simply flavored lard put on wax paper to harden in the cold the size of a cookie. mmm mmm good I of course wouldn't feed a porch puppy the diet the sled dogs got...unless they were as active as the team dogs. SmugMug
