  1. A lot of the food Petsmart and other big stores sells is garbage...it's just labeled as dogfood. As far as dogs being clean, I guess you'll really freak when you hear this. I used to race sleddogs. Was in a little local 25 miler and didn't have much lead on a team behind me. I noticed the Dillon, my big blue-eyed wheel-dog, had a iceball in the center of one of his back feet. Now running on an iceball is kind of like having a shooter marble in your shoe...doesn't feel good. I stopped the team and started working to get the iceball taken care of. See, these things form when snow packs onto the hair in the foot so they're a little tuff to get out without just yanking the hair out..and that makes for a less than happy puppy so....I just put the thing in my mouth to melt it. I didn't think about it, just did what needed to be done. About then I happened to think about the fact that sleddogs poop as they run. There is poop along the trail...law of averages says a dog will step in at least a little poop on a 25 mile run. The iceball came off and I tried not to think about what might have been in it as I called the dogs up. Give the dog some icecream. Be reasonable about the amount but don't worry about it, or the dog spit. If dog spit was going to kill you I would be dead. Back when i was running dogs I had leukemia...white counts below 1500 most of the time....I lived. SmugMug
  2. IF she is going to carry something I would recommend pepper spray. I also recommend that she get some formal training in it's use, including being sprayed so that she'll know what it's like. If you use it on the street you are going to end up getting hit with it....good to know before hand what it is like. FYI, there isn't a legal spray on the market that is going to stop someone that really, truly wants to hurt you. SmugMug

    What is it?

Eastern Hognose snake. Here's another one SmugMug
  4. Vet. Blockage can result in the dog getting terminally ill before showing any signs/symtoms. The string from the tampon can constrict or "cut" the intestine/bowel. Probably will go on though without a problem, but could be very serious. Err on the side of safety on this. SmugMug
  5. Sometimes it's to shield the cab from the sun. Sometimes it's because it will be easier to come forward out of the parking spot...less risk to me and others. SmugMug
  6. That was way back in the 80's. The guy was doing acro in the airplane (not designed for acro) to show it off for the manufacturer. NTSB figured he pulled a little over 8 G on his pitchup. Sad note, the female announcer you hear is his wife. SmugMug
  7. How many times have you been involved in a shooting? How many times have you had to defend your life and make that kind of shot? If the anwer is never perhaps you shouldn't be so quick to judge. And yes, I have been there and I have pulled the trigger. SmugMug
  8. As a former airplane owner I can assure you that a calculator is not needed to figure how much money it takes to own an airplane. it's simple...it takes ALL of it. SmugMug
  9. He drew the pistol out of a holster on his right hip. From what I saw in the tape the shooting may not have been justified. When the guy started shooting the badguy was running to the door. Someone going away usually isn't a big threat of "serious physical injury or death". edit* Went back and looked at the vid some more. As the guard comes up with his pistol both he and the clerk flinch and duck, perhaps the badguy took a shot at them as he headed to the door. SmugMug

    Serious damage

BTDT on an old B4 container w/28' round. Kinda pooched the pull and opened on my back, pilot chute/sleeve/canopy went between my legs. Snappy opening with #2 (I'm a pilot, figure out which one it is) under the leg strap, and almost slid my "bunny boots" off my feet as it flipped me upright. To heck with steering, I'm fixing this leg strap...actually ended up undoing the quickrelease on that one to get some relief. Paratrooper buddy of mine made a jump with crossed leg straps (several mistakes got by on this one). He was kind of grumpy for a few days. But to answer your question, nothing "popped". SmugMug
  11. But with the reduced density comes a higher true airspeed. Let's see, it's about 2% for every 1000' of altitude....yowzer, it's gonna be snappy. SmugMug
  12. ding, ding, ding, we have the answer also you get tricycle gear and a new aircraft That's assuming the PAC750 is approved for flight with the door oper/removed. SmugMug
  13. The Iditarod dogs? Accidents usually. Some from medical problems. Same as happens to human atheletes. SmugMug
  14. A much smaller number than will die in the animal shelter during the same period of time. And they won't die of neglect, abuse or lack of care. Like another poster said, until you've been around sleddogs you won't understand. SmugMug
  15. 19 with 2 fireballs. I am NOT a perv!! SmugMug
  16. Approach calls jumpers as traffic for me quite often. This is after they've opened. SmugMug
  17. If you do screw up and Valsalva during the climb you can do a "reverse Valsalva" by closing mouth, pinching nose and swallowing. It should help to release some of that air you just crammed into the inner ear. SmugMug
  18. So who is the real idiot? The person trying to do their job or the lowlife who commits theft? What you did is theft..no if's ands or buts. Oh yeah, thanks for driving the prices up for the rest of us. I worked Loss Prevention for a grocery chain. One store lost $60K in a 3 month period. Not all of that was theft, some was breakage, etc. but the majority of that $60K walked out the door. SmugMug
  19. It is possible to maintain a medical with vision in only one eye. The pilot will have to get a Statement of Demonstrated Ability..he'll have to go fly with an FAA examiner and demonstrate that he can in fact fly the airplane with only one eye. There are airline captains that only have one eye. SmugMug
  20. I don't know, I used to think that way. That it's how the dog was raised, not it's breeding. I raised/trained/raced sleddogs for several years. You don't have to teach the dog to run, it's bred into them...it's what they do. IMO it's that way with the aggressive breeds. Not that good training can't mellow them out and help in control, but the aggression is still there and must be considered. SmugMug
  21. Is that Aggiedave on the left? SmugMug
  22. Many 172s have been converted to tail-wheel. SmugMug
  23. It's Fiddle Back and they're not deadly. Here's one of many links of them: http://www.animalbehavior.org:8081/ABS/ABSNews/1039832717/index_html SmugMug
  24. You made a wise choice. An old saying goes, "It's better to be down here wishing you were up there, than up there wishing you were down here." SmugMug
  25. On a '56 Ford the rear-wheels lock and you begin some rather interesting divertions from your intended path, depending on how quick the driver is with spinning that big old steering wheel about. SmugMug
