Classic day-time burglary technique. When they knocked on my door I was sittin' on the crapper so it took a couple minutes to answer the door. When I did there was no one there...and I heard the sliding glass door in the back open. Voila! He was quite suprised to find an armed homeowner when he came around the corner. SmugMug

In '75 I think we jumped (military troop drop) on the Yukon River at Galena, Alaska -- it was -47F when we stepped out the door. That night it hit -65F with winds blowing 30ish --- windchill off the chart. -20F or below is officially cold. SmugMug

Have your dogs been tested for heartworm? SmugMug

No idea what it's officailly called, but being that short-coupled as a tail-dragger I can think of several things it probably got called. SmugMug

Most states have reciprocity regarding suspended licenses....if NY suspends your license you won't be able to get one anywhere else. SmugMug

Who said there was instruction going on? The guys I know, with only a few exceptions, PIC from the front since that's where the pilot stuff is and you can see a lot better. SmugMug

A witness interview (for what they're worth, although this is Oshkosh) said he was on a go-around, appeared very slow, wing dropped and aircraft descended to impact. SmugMug

Our mini Australian Shepard Katie had this problem. She is very active chasing frisbees, sticks, balls, small children, etc. We would notice that occasionally she would limp on her right rear leg and then would hyper-extend that leg straight out behind her for a moment. Once she did that she was back in the game. We took her to a local vet who's speciality is canine orthopedics and he found she had luxating patella. He said her straightening of the leg is how they put things "back in place" and is seen quite often in dogs with this problem. Because she is so active and since it was occurring more often we elected to have surgery done. It is quite extensive surgery with lots of bone being removed and replaced to get everything back in alignment...it costs us about $2000 for the surgery. She healed very well and we've had no further problem. We only did the knee that was being problematic, the other hasn't been an issue yet. SmugMug

Canadian CF-18 low altitude bailout (pics & video)

Photos posted elsewhere show one nozzle closed, one open...you can also see as the nose slices right the rudders are hard left...classic signs of a loss of thrust/vmc departure IMO. SmugMug -
Canon Powershot 980IS. Image stabilized, very good quality stills and it does 720p HD video...all for $300. My only real gripe about it is it is so small it's hard for my fat fingers to hang onto. SmugMug

Does the prop stop on a PT-6 when feathered? SmugMug -

Aileron use in a spin usually makes things much worse. Normal spin recovery is with rudder to stop the yaw and elevator to reduce the angle of attack. SmugMug -

BS. The pilot of a B-17, B-24 or B-29 is even farther from an exit...lot's of them managed to bail out. SmugMug -
Private aircraft makes emergency landing on beach
akjmpplt replied to regulator's topic in The Bonfire
It might look good, but until you're in the flare you won't see low spots, dunes or a number of other things that can cause you grief. I've got about 6000 landings, 7 of them after power loss. SmugMug -
Private aircraft makes emergency landing on beach
akjmpplt replied to regulator's topic in The Bonfire
You've never landed an airplane have you. I'd go for the runway....you can be sure of no obstacles on or near the runway to hit. Landing on a beach is risky, even for aircraft equipped to land on beaches flown by people with experience doing it. SmugMug -
You need another option: Call police and then assist the victim. Been there, done that...spent a long few minutes running around a car keeping a huge guy away from me until the officer arrived. SmugMug

If it's a really good quake you won't be able to move around...you probably won't be able to stand. You haven't lived until you've looked out your window and watched the trees and telephone poles swaying back and forth. SmugMug

As with all air vehicles...the guy that isn't looking around is the one to yield to. SmugMug

The 182 I owned was a Ted product. That first annual was fun...about $6000 worth. Just little things we found. Like the prop on the plane wasn't the prop in the log...and both of the prop models had been removed from service years before. It sure climbed good with that prop though. SmugMug

Saw this elsewhere, she didn't realize it until at the end of the run. SmugMug
