A lot of the food Petsmart and other big stores sells is garbage...it's just labeled as dogfood. As far as dogs being clean, I guess you'll really freak when you hear this. I used to race sleddogs. Was in a little local 25 miler and didn't have much lead on a team behind me. I noticed the Dillon, my big blue-eyed wheel-dog, had a iceball in the center of one of his back feet. Now running on an iceball is kind of like having a shooter marble in your shoe...doesn't feel good. I stopped the team and started working to get the iceball taken care of. See, these things form when snow packs onto the hair in the foot so they're a little tuff to get out without just yanking the hair out..and that makes for a less than happy puppy so....I just put the thing in my mouth to melt it. I didn't think about it, just did what needed to be done. About then I happened to think about the fact that sleddogs poop as they run. There is poop along the trail...law of averages says a dog will step in at least a little poop on a 25 mile run. The iceball came off and I tried not to think about what might have been in it as I called the dogs up. Give the dog some icecream. Be reasonable about the amount but don't worry about it, or the dog spit. If dog spit was going to kill you I would be dead. Back when i was running dogs I had leukemia...white counts below 1500 most of the time....I lived. SmugMug

IF she is going to carry something I would recommend pepper spray. I also recommend that she get some formal training in it's use, including being sprayed so that she'll know what it's like. If you use it on the street you are going to end up getting hit with it....good to know before hand what it is like. FYI, there isn't a legal spray on the market that is going to stop someone that really, truly wants to hurt you. SmugMug

Vet. Blockage can result in the dog getting terminally ill before showing any signs/symtoms. The string from the tampon can constrict or "cut" the intestine/bowel. Probably will go on though without a problem, but could be very serious. Err on the side of safety on this. SmugMug

Someone going away usually isn't a big threat of "serious physical injury or death". edit* Went back and looked at the vid some more. BTDT on an old B4 container w/28' round. Kinda pooched the pull and opened on my back, pilot chute/sleeve/canopy went between my legs. Snappy opening with #2 (I'm a pilot, figure out which one it is) under the leg strap, and almost slid my "bunny boots" off my feet as it flipped me upright. To heck with steering, I'm fixing this leg strap...actually ended up undoing the quickrelease on that one to get some relief. Paratrooper buddy of mine made a jump with crossed leg straps (several mistakes got by on this one). He was kind of grumpy for a few days. But to answer your question, nothing "popped". SmugMug

If you do screw up and Valsalva during the climb you can do a "reverse Valsalva" by closing mouth, pinching nose and swallowing. It should help to release some of that air you just crammed into the inner ear. SmugMug

It is possible to maintain a medical with vision in only one eye. The pilot will have to get a Statement of Demonstrated Ability..he'll have to go fly with an FAA examiner and demonstrate that he can in fact fly the airplane with only one eye. There are airline captains that only have one eye. SmugMug

I don't know, I used to think that way. That it's how the dog was raised, not it's breeding. I raised/trained/raced sleddogs for several years. You don't have to teach the dog to run, it's bred into them...it's what they do. IMO it's that way with the aggressive breeds. Not that good training can't mellow them out and help in control, but the aggression is still there and must be considered. SmugMug
