  4. Not wishing to high jack this thread but WTF.... have i missed something here erm Rain-man just being curious, what was you canopy progression? PM me if you dont want to post it, and im not going to lecture you.. Also with each canopy progression, how many jumps did you spend doing, 90s then 180s and then 270s and at what point did you begin to use rears?? how did you find the swoops and all your previous canopys, and how did you find the transition from square - semi eliptical - eliptical - cross braced?? Also do you own your own DZ, as i dont know to many DZO that would let you jump a VX at 2.4 with couple of hundred jumps.... ----------------------------------------------------------- --+ There are 10 types of people in the world: Those who understand binary, and those who don't.. --+

What exactly is a "motion picture edit environment"? Basically, an Avid enviroment... Avid was introduced to Hollywood in 1989 and has replaced "flat-bed" linear editing (a more time-consuming process in which film is cut by hand), and is the industry standard..... Yes im aware there are Hollywood movies that have been edited with FCP, “Cold Mountain” for example… but estimates are that still %95 of editing in Hollywood is done using Avid. ----------------------------------------------------------- --+ There are 10 types of people in the world: Those who understand binary, and those who don't.. --+

The best advice would be to get your hands on what ever software you can to start with, if you have XP then Moviemaker will be on there, if you’re running a Mac then iMovie. People will tell you to get Final Cut, Premiere, Vegas, Pinnacle, Ulead … the list goes on.. If you have the money then fine go out and by any one of these packages, but understand that it is not the software it’s the editor using it….. And a lot of what is said about these packages is just marketing hype… all these packages are consumer (not professional) grade, and will all do pretty much the same job…. Now if you are serious and want to make a living out of editing then you need to get to know Avid Xpress Pro, as this is the Industry Standard and without it you are unable to transpose your work upto a conventional motion picture edit environment. .. If you want more specific advice, perhaps explain what it is you want to achieve.. are chopping together some poorly shot home video, or at the other end of the scale are you planning on shooting a movie using HDDV which you plan to laden with special effects and print to film ??? ----------------------------------------------------------- --+ There are 10 types of people in the world: Those who understand binary, and those who don't.. --+

  16. Your D lines are your line over lines,,, and you will most likely insert a line over when you drag the tail around… To avoid doing this, there are two methods that work very well. First grab the tail seam at the top of the pack job, under the hand that is holding it and run your hand down the seam bringing it together on each side.. Or bring the tail round one side at a time by placing your knee at the side and pulling the tail around it, thus using your knee to hold everything in place… Also after you have used one of the two methods lift the tail on each side and take a look and visibly ensure that everything is in place before rolling the tail… ----------------------------------------------------------- --+ There are 10 types of people in the world: Those who understand binary, and those who don't.. --+

  20. Tracing my geneology to Irish ancestors I am offended by the term "Paddy wagon"! It reminds me of Montgomery ,Alabama 1955 and my great grandmother twice removeds' (Rosa Parks)) struggle there. Then those mobile cages were called "Nigga Wagons". Blues, Cliff It is true that "Paddy," a familiar form of the common Irish name Padraic (or Patrick) was used in the 19th and early 20th centuries as a generic, and often uncomplimentary, term for an Irishman, both in the U.S. and England. But while "paddy" certainly was used as an insult in the past, and Irish immigrants were without doubt the victims of discrimination, I think that it takes a pretty thin skin to find a grave insult in the term "paddy wagon." Among other things, the fact that it remains unclear whether the "paddy" involved was the arresting officer or the miscreant being arrested rather clouds the logic of taking offense. That "paddy" is also used in non-pejorative contexts ("Saint Paddy's Day") has also largely robbed the word of its sting ----------------------------------------------------------- --+ There are 10 types of people in the world: Those who understand binary, and those who don't.. --+
  21. There have been several times recently that I have exited in the last group out of the van/otter and quite often the pilot has started to curve the jump run by this point, although not always... Also personally speaking as I have only recently started to attempt the pond with a 270 approach, and don’t mind pulling a little higher, and it really is only a little. This gives me plenty of time to plan my set up, sort my gear out, and by the time I am setting up, everyone else who is landing in the E pit should have landed leaving me clear air space. Besides if you watch, most people that run the pond will sit up on brakes until everyone has landed, and will have pulled a few hundred feet higher anyway. So whether this time is spent flying back from a long spot because you were out last, or whether it is spent sitting about the DZ on brakes, probably doesn’t make that much of a difference. Also if we curve the jump run are we not at risk of over crowding the LZ with canopies… My 2 cents…….. ----------------------------------------------------------- --+ There are 10 types of people in the world: Those who understand binary, and those who don't.. --+
