  1. Several technology groups are looking at nuclear power, including the use of small modular reactors (SMRs), to meet their electricity needs. Energy analysts have said natural gas, whether burned in large-scale facilities or peaker plants, also will be important. Power consumption from data centers, though, also is benefiting coal-fired power plants, some of which may be kept running longer than expected in order to meet the increased demand for electricity from companies such as Google, Meta, Amazon Web Services (AWS), and others. Some coal-fired plants already have gotten a reprieve in areas where more energy is needed as data centers come online, or are in the planning stages. not one mention of renewables.
  2. Googled… “Data centers primarily rely on fossil fuels, like natural gas and coal, as their power source, which contributes significantly to their environmental impact due to the high energy consumption required to operate them”
  3. Ellison made one of Oracle’s biggest headlines of the week with his Monday earnings call announcement the company would invest in three small nuclear reactors to power a data center with over 1 GW of AI capacity. As I said, big tech is eschewing renewables in favor of fossil fuels and nuclear.
  4. Can you please give me just one example of an AI data center being run exclusively on renewables? No? Didn’t think you could. How many are run by fossil fuels? Oh yeah, all of them.
  5. Sorry indeed, when you import roughly 30% of your electricity from other states (mostly from fossil fuels) you are as bit as green as Germany which does the same.
  6. Is that why Virginia just dropped its EV mandate? Isn’t that just the opposite of following California’s lead?
  7. Never flip flopped. The other side went from “renewables will replace fossil fuels” to “we went from 2% to 3%, yay for us! #winning?”
  8. Yeah, that is crazy talk. It’s not like a government would ever tell you what kind of vehicle you can buy and what type you can’t.
  9. 3.9% is hardly succeeding. The skyrocketing energy costs in California and Germany are cautionary tales about what happens when you rely too much on renewables. I said we can’t run the country on renewables for more than a decade and I am as right today as I was ten years ago. (Ten years ago I also said that rising CO2 would not result in global calamity. Looks like I was right about that as well)
  10. Sept 20 (Reuters) - Constellation Energy (CEG.O), opens new tab and Microsoft (MSFT.O), opens new tab have signed a power deal to help resurrect a unit of the Three Mile Island nuclear plant in Pennsylvania in what would be the first-ever restart of its kind, the companies said on Friday. Big tech has led to a sudden surge in U.S. electricity demand for data centers needed to expand technologies like artificial intelligence and cloud computing. Nuclear energy, which is nearly carbon-free and broadly considered more reliable than energy sources like solar and wind, has become a popular option for technology companies with uninterrupted power needs and climate pledges. Did you catch that part about wind and solar are insufficiently reliable? Data centers require vast amounts of power 24/7 something wind and solar just can’t provide.
  11. Here’s a percentage for you… To be sure, solar remains a small portion of total electricity generation in the U.S., standing at just 3.9% of the nation’s power mix in 2023 compared to the 43% share held by natural gas, according to the Energy Information Administration,
  12. “Another analysis of the energy dilemma facing Virginia, this one commissioned by a Democrat-controlled legislative panel, has concluded that use of natural gas to make electricity is going to have to grow over coming decades, not shrink. Virginia’s anti-hydrocarbon energy laws are doomed to fail because of Virginia’s global dominance in the data center industry.” Yet another reality check.
  13. I have a 278hp Accord Coupe and although it has an Eco mode I rarely use it as it retards throttle response, so only decent mileage. OTOH my wife’s Mercedes GLS has a 365hp turbo and even though it is a hybrid, the whole Texas oil patch stands up and cheers every time we drive it. (Cute South Park don’t you think?)
  14. Inflation is well above the feds target rate of 2% and higher than any time during the Trump administration. Unemployment rate is now 4.2% and rising (not close to record lows) illegal immigration and fentanyl deaths are dropping from astronomically high rates (resulting from Biden’s open border policy) and record oil production is irrespective of Biden’s anti fossil fuel agenda.

  16. “Disney drops transgender storyline from animated series” Yet another indication of the death of Woke. Apparently the cure for the woke mind virus is losing an election and millions of dollars.
  17. From what I understand, DZ.com is going away. (I might be more up to speed if the lefty censors weren’t so enthusiastic). That said, I have enjoyed my time here and have even felt respect and admiration for some of my left wing foils (talking to you Joe, BillV, Skydecker, et al). Thank you guys and I wish the best for you. I know you are unhappy about the results of the last election, but this too shall pass. The ship of state has more momentum than any one term administration can significantly alter, it’s going to be ok. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays! Love you guys!
  18. Still screaming “racist, misogynist, homophobe and transphobe” ...but nobody is listening as Democrat Senator jumps on the Trump train.
  19. $15 million to Trump? Wow what a turnaround. Trifle with the Trumpster and FAFO
  20. https://www.latimes.com/environment/story/2024-12-11/why-newsoms-electric-vehicle-mandate-is-in-trouble Reality sets in as sales growth slows to a crawl and government incentives dry up. Officials backpedal and equivocate. Sorry BillV, it just ain’t going to happen.
  21. She was just implementing policy, (enthusiastically BTW) In this instance I was just the husband of one of their VPs. I am no longer an Airborne Ranger, bank officer or DZO, I am just a house husband, spouse of an executive and Dad. I am ok with that.
  22. Just as we are transitioning to a new administration, inflation is rising and so is unemployment.
  23. Without a right of center moderator (not to be conflated with the lefty censors on this forum) you guys quickly devolve into an intellectually incestuous circle jerk.
  24. More evidence from another thread “The audience of the long-running show hosted by Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski is down 35% among total viewers, averaging just 720,000, and down 37% among viewers in the advertiser-coveted demographic ages 25-54, according to Nielsen Media Research.” “MSNBC’s “The Rachel Maddow Show” has lost 43% of its total audience in 2024 since Election Day” Looks like the Lefties’ self righteous intolerance and hatred extends to their own kind. Meanwhile at the other end of the political news spectrum… “Fox News has seen its audience surge. In November, the Murdoch family’s network captured a 70% share of the cable news audience in the weeks since the president-elect won another term in the White House; that’s the largest in its history.” Looks like Americans like winners, not whiners.
