Hello Michael, Technically, you have to make 1 BASE jump before you can be a newbie. Unless you mean skydiving newbie. Now 3 years and 400 skydives is not a career, but you should be beyond newbie status by now. The broken back is a concern. You broke your back only midway through your current stint of parachuting activities, and by your own admission, you did it "being stupid". There is no room for stupid moves here. Jumping off a rock in no way compares to jumping through a door. I'll give you the advice I would give anyone: Don't do it. Save your money, save your relationships, save your job, save your neck. If BASE jumping doesn't kill you, at least it will kill your friends. Is that really worth the most fun you could ever have? ================================== I've got all I need, Jesus and gravity. I haven't seen anyone use religious quotations when they weren't referring to religion, or religious figures. Is it really happening a lot? Maybe not a lot, but it happens. I remember a professed non-Christian using a biblical quote for a completely non-religeous reason recently. Hello, I grew up in Hawaii. In Elementary School they teach you about tsunamis, and what it means when all the water at the beach gets sucked away from shore. We had drills, sirens, the works. They still do. I was in Hilo when an earthquake hit in late 60's. The tidal wave was only 6'. Do you have any friends in Europe who could send it to you? Try the UK BASE Board, they are usually pretty friendly. I know some European BASE jumpers, PM me. Keep in mind, I do not have streets and trips, and I've never heard of autoroute 2005, just taking your word it exists. That's a reasonable question from a new BASE jumper. In the beginning you rely on mentors and manufacturer QC. Sometimes you rely on the next clown in line, as if he knows anything. Believe me, there are some hot-shots who don't even know what bias is.... Eventually, we all realize we need to be our own rigger, then the little details become important. Edited to add: Vented PC's are not the end-all in PC mfg. An assymetrically loaded vented PC could oscilate. A poorly constructed PC of any type could be deadly. If everything is perfect, you could still have a bad day.
