  1. This guy's rising influence and close ties to Iran also leads me to be very suspicious of Iran's role and endgame in Iraq. ...and are you equally suspicous of America's motives in Iraq?
  2. How many people take none skydivers with them? I would like to go next year but my wife, a none skydiver, is not too keen.
  3. Do you really think that is a possibility? Most people from Iraq are Sunni or Kurdish muslims not Shiites, although Shias dominate the south of the counrty. Iraq is an Arab and Kurdish country whilst Iran is Persian. The languages are also different with Iranians speaking Farsi and the Iraqis speaking Arabic. The only thing which is similar between the countries is a shared adherence to Islam in general albeit different sects.
  4. Still plenty of people jumping at Langar. They are getting up to 10 lifts per day so last sunday I got 4 jumps in.
  5. Ahmagh...means stupid. ...well I did say it was a subtle joke for Farsi speakers!
  6. This is a very subtle in joke for any Farsi speakers on the forum or maybe just Darius11 in particular. I don't know how it will work when written in English as it depends on how one particular word sounds when written phonetically. Anyway here goes... Iranians have taken to calling the president Ahmaghinejad rather than Amadinejad.
  7. Tony Blair has also just been talking about a law which allows for action to be taken BEFORE a child commits a crime. What ever happened to innocent until proven guilty?
  8. Highfly I'd like to suggest changing the title of the thread to 'So now SOME Iranians don't believe it happened.' If you knew any Iranians or had visited the country you would soon find that very few believe or endorse the official government line. The last election was met with apathy amongst the middle classes which led to very few of them voting. Added to that Ahmadinejad mainly campaigned about social issues including improving conditions for the most poor in society so questions over foreign policy were not raised that much, which means that views like this were not endorsed by the electorate.
  9. 'Case in point: In Perris Valley, adults are charged $50 for two minutes (and $35 for each additional two minutes). So if I make a weekend out of it, I'm spending $200 on a plane ticket, $120 on a motel room for a couple nights, and $85 to fly for 4 minutes. Add food & beer, & you're pushing $450-$500...for 4 minutes!' These rates are for non skydivers and include classroom time to teach you how to fly your body. Skydivers' rates are much more reasonable especially if you split the time and cost between a large group. That said a big market for most tunnels is as a ride for whuffos. Airkix in the UK is aimed at whuffos but it also does a fantastic job for skydivers.
  10. Daniel is there something you are not telling us? '"Dad was ticked for a while and he forbid Mom to talk to anybody on the Internet ever again," said embarrassed Daniel.'
  11. At the moment it looks as if skydivers can get this sort of course cheaper in the the UK than in the States which is an unsual situation. In the UK Chris Lynch offers day course aimed at different experience levels. I attended one of his courses earlier this year and price wise they seem to be a bargain in comparison to the rates you have just quoted. 4 jumps, his time, video debrief and basic course materials came to about $110 or £65. Each level he teaches comes to the same price, give or take an extra jump or two. His basic fee is £25 with the rest of the cost going in jump tickets for hop n pops. Rates in Spain which are normally very good value for money in comparison to the UK are 390EUR or about £260 or approx $442 from the Empuria DZ in northern Spain.
  12. What do you mean? It was only -3c at altitude which is positively balmy for this time of year!
  13. We could see the smoke from 14000 from Langar today!
  14. He does have a certain way with the young scrotes who sometimes try to use the runway for burnouts and he is probably the main reason that the gypsies tend to steer clear of the club house most of the time.
  15. If you want a good fight I'd suggest trying to take on Cancan. You are a Langar jumper so I'm sure you'll know who I mean.
  16. You mean like this? ...yeah but I need three of them, preferable attached to someone who knows what they are doing!
  17. A tool to help me reassemble a three ring release!
  18. ..if so can you PM me cos I'm interested in applying to join TVP and I'm after some advice about my application. Thanks.
  19. Check our Ebay.co.uk right now as there is a copy up for sale. Its on the skydiving/paragliding page, but sorry i don't know how to make the location clicky.
  20. Nowt to do with base jumping really but my Dad worked for the company building KL Tower so I had a couple of vists to the top just after all the structural steel work was completed. The passenger lift used at the time used to take about 10 minutes to get to the top. Great view but I never would have guessed at the time that the Malaysians would be so switched and would go on to allow Base jumping from it and other towers.
  21. Chris Harrison at Langar in the UK is one of the more senior TM's out there. I'm rubbish at estimating ages but I'd say that he won't see his 50's again but he is still very active taking AFF and tandem students most weekends.
  22. I think Kieran Brady is a pilot. Angela Hickling from Langar is involved with the BPA on the flying committee although she is not on the council itself.
  23. Airkix without a doubt. Bedford is great and has fantastic staff but once your family have done their session there is little else for them to do. Bedford town is relatively close to the tunnel but it really doesn't have much going for it. Airkix on the other hand is in Milton Keynes city centre next to a modern shopping centre so it has got loads of facilities nearby including bars, restaurants, cinema, indoor ski slope, and loads of shops. In the summer you can also go water skiing on a nearby lake. The Airkix staff are also really good and professional so they will look after you and your families' needs very well.
  24. Post invasion there now seems to be plenty of dissent about what and was not going on in Iraq regarding intelligence. David Kelly was one scientist who having investigated Iraq at first hand definitely had doubts about the intelligence being presented to various governments as well as the spin being applied to it. Hans Blix who led of the search for WMD in Iraq also came to the same conclusion. Given the huge gulf between pre invasion 'evidence' and post invasion proof of WMD, as well as the lack or apology/acknowledgement of intelligence 'short comings' as shown by the complete white washing and lack of blame in recent Government enquiries on both sides of the Atlantic I have got to come to the conclusion that the evidence was created to support a pre declared action. Bush and the neo cons wanted to invade Iraq and therefore created the climate to lead their people into supporting the war. If our leaders are not liars then the alternative conclusion given that the evidence has been shown to be a complete crock of bull is that our intelligence agencies are a bunch of complete incompetents who are a waste of money. Why do we fund our intelligence agencies so much money when they come up with conclusions which have no basis in fact? Why did they use a thesis written by a uni student in the mid 90's as evidence of WMD?
  25. So if Bush and Blair didn't lie where are all the WMD that they said Iraq possessed and was also supposed to be in the process of developing? Nothing has been found since we invaded, so it is not even a case that our respective governments exaggerated real capabilities. Having said that I don't think Bush's ratings are going down because he has been caught out about he said before the war, rather that Americans are getting fed up with endless casualty list amongst the armed forces. Bush has only just started to address the issue of withdrawal but until that becomes a concrete plan and if casualties continue to mount I think his rating with continue to drop.
