  1. yeah, but w/ their burkas on, how will we know they're really protesting? They won't rustle when they walk past?
  2. That is the first time I have ever agreed with what Mr Peaceful has ever written on these pages!
  3. You know what? I've just looked through the BPA regs and I can't find anything in them about jumping from helicopters! So either I'm making this up or I've heard it somewhere but can't quote the source.
  4. You'll need a B certificate before you can jump from a helicopter in the UK.
  5. As you jump in the UK you won't be able to consider a full face helmet until you get your B certificate. Have a look at the BPA regs section 6: Helmets 3.1.1. Student and FAI ‘A’ Certificate (Red) parachutists must wear a suitably sturdy open faced, hard protective helmet without a peak. After you get your B have a look around and see what fits best. All helmets have pros and cons.
  6. I think the Jetranger only seems to appear every other year at Boogie Two. The skyvan is more of a notable absence but hey there are two Caravans and Jan's lovely Beech99 to play with.
  7. Jeezus! Hasn't Mr Bigglesworth got better things to do than to write stupid letters like that? How about spending his time cleaning up some of the crap left by BRITISH locals and tourists?
  8. Its a fact of life in the UK, but our rules are different from those found in the States. We have to be able to see the LZ from opening point so we can jump through quite thick 'industrial haze' as long as we open where we can see the LZ.
  9. If its as good as Airkix in the UK you will have a great tunnel to play in.
  10. I'd love to take you up on your offer but i can't get time off from work that day!
  11. These are good points and also apply to DZ's across Europe and the States, particularly to foreign jumpers who might not be used to regular high temperatures.
  12. Look if the Americans or British for that matter really want to get Al Zawahri or any of the Al Qaeda leaders why not use ground troops as soon as they receive the intel? The lives of the troops would be put at risk but at least they would stand a better chance of getting their man than an airstrike from thousands of feet. It might also reduce civilian casualties and give quicker confirmation of the kill.
  13. I've heard Milko (AFF instructor, TI, all round good guy at Langar) discussing the merits of both strategies. I'm sure he said that when FF first started they weren't sure what to do with exit order so they sent them out first which is an order which has kind of stuck. He can see the merits of both orders so maybe one day it will change at Langar.
  14. Does anyone else find it odd that the BPA may be about to ask its members to pay for something which the BPA might not receive? I know thta it might only be asking for £1 per person but the BPA does have a large contingency fund so surely it could pay the £5000 from that and then next year ask us to pay in arrears extra for the funding? At least by then we would know that we been given the funding. The insurance issue has has also proved perplexing to me. I though the EU was now one big market so a supplier from one country could supply it services in another one. If that is the case why can't a German compnay cover our insurance?
  15. Gary Beyer and Mark Kirkby, formerly of World Champions Arizona Airspeed will return to Airkix 7th-14th March 2006. Price edited out. Let the people call and get it.
  16. So, you live in a cave? Yah, seriously. Development is society. _Am Yep and all those god damn gas guzzling jump planes and those acres of concrete runways cluttering up the place can all go to hell and next time I go skydiving...oh what...damn I didn't notice the flaw in my argument!
  17. Its cold, windy and wet....in England so I should not have just looked on the Skyrats website, cos the weather looks great and I've just seen pics of my friend Billy load organising! I am so jealous (and cold).
  18. I was just going on the mock ups seen on the TV news. These looked like they had flat flight decks and had computer illustrations of jets taking off conventionally. Our current carriers do have ramps though. There is plenty of scope for the design to change between now and the ships being launched. The French are designing them but British shipyards will build our carriers.
  19. The Sibson DZ in the UK has recently revived our 8 way speed star event. It is now held in September at the end of our season. It is a 'no show' competition but unlike the Americans we don't have a diagonal line to stand behind however no one can have any part of their body outside the door. I think the record is just over 8 seconds set quite a long time ago by the Red Devils parachute battalion team.
  20. 'A separate navalized version of the F-35 has been designed with a VSTOL configuration but it’s an export version intended for the U.K. and some other nations that operate small “ski jump” type carriers similar to U.S. assault ships operated by the Marines.' ...better tell that to the designers of our new aircraft carriers then cos these are designed for catapult launches with verical landings!
  21. Were you bothered when the accents used in the cartoon series all became American? I'm not bashing America but Disney has already changed the series by using American accents on what is essentially an English book based in a wood in England.
  22. I think that there is a rap tune on the Good Stuff video which mentions a three ring release, but I've got no idea who made the track.
  23. John Newton wrote it and lived in my home town of Olney for a long time. There is a great little museum dedicated to him and William Cowper on the market square there.
  24. Hi SudsyFist. Re you point about making a loss on transactions. There are some businesses where margins are so slim that the imposition of a credit card fee can make the difference between making a loss or a profit on a transaction. You should try working for a travel agent. Most airlines now don't pay commission so the only money we make on a ticket is from a very small booking fee typically £10-£25. If we didn't charge a credit card fee and the credit card company took 3% of the transaction value we would be making a loss on a lot of the tickets we sell. We can't charge higher booking fees as the airline also sell direct to customers on the internet and therefore are able to under cut us on almost every flight sold. Adrian (soon to be an x travel agent)
