Heck....Ive been suspended from CSPA for life "twice" and the second time they didnt even give me a reason...they didnt have one. USPA was canvassed by some CSPA pumpkin, and they cancelled my membership in USPA as well....... That was 31 years ago. Bill Cole D-41

Michele....you are not only a good jumper ( I still watch the video) but you are a very talented writer. Maybe you should write a good skydiving story and submit it Parachutist. ....or a fictional book....maybe a skydiving mystery. Take good care and heal fast. Your birthday on May 3rd....I hope you tell me you made your 100th jump Love and best wishes Bill Cole D-41

The risors were just doubled back and forth and inside the container. The chute ( para=commander) inflated and I still had 25 ft left to fall and my head snapped forward, driving my chin into an M-18 smoke graned stuffed into the top front of my jumpsuit. It split across my lower lip, blood all over everything. ouch!!! Bill Cole D-41

HAPPY BIRTHDAY CAJONES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
chuteless replied to lewmonst's topic in The Bonfire
Happy Birthday Cajones.....hope you have many more....which of course, means many more years of skydiving and safe landings. Bill Cole D-41 -
I hurt every time I hear of another US soldier being downed. I feel badly for the situation you are in Do you think GWB or Rumsfeld knows the food tastes like cardboard? Is that the same food they serve him in the Oval Office? You and your buddies will be in my prayers this evening, and I know the (non Muslim) Lord will be listening. I wish you the very best of everything you can possibly get. Keep your head down, and your eyes open...and may the Lord bless you and protect you....and all those with you. Best wishes from Canada my friend. Bill Cole D-41

One of my favoprite people in the world....and she is getting well. That is truly an answer to prayer. I just spoke with her....just made my day, she did. Bill Cole D-41

My logbook says itwas a Para-Commander and the risors were 25 ft long...not 30 . I dont recall whose it was...I owned several but not that color.

Ive done it without the pilot knowing, and with. Some were done during the filming of a beer commercial at 1000 feet. The side slip probably helps, but I found it worked without it. The whole canopy and lines strings out alongside the plane, and the canopy actually begins to inflate behind the aircraft, pulling me off the step. Bill Cole D-41

Im very sorry to hear of this tragedy. Ive done many beer commercials (never tasted the stuff) and I know how things can sometimes go wrong. My condolences to his family and friends. Its very sad to lose a guy like that. Bill Cole D-41

I dont know what aircraft you are using, but Ive pulled while standing on the step and the chute always cleared the tail, yanking me right off the step. Its an awesome feeling because the whole chute opens horizontal rather than vertical. This was of a Cessna l80 usually, and referred to as a pull and clear instead of a clear and pull.. Bill Cole D41 By the way...Im not advocating anyone try it...

just dont make them 30 feet long. That makes for one heck of an opening !!! Bill Cole D-41

It is worth a lot to God....He sent His Son to die for it and free me from the eternal punishment I would have had . What a merciful God !!!!!!!!!

Highest Hot Air Balloon Jump
chuteless replied to Beerlight's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
In establishing the figures I posted, I guessed at the temperature. I believe the temperature stays about the same all the way to infinity, once you reach a certain altitude, ( I think somewhere around 50,000 feet.) I also stated that the 680 was MSL, but if you lookat the figures for -60Celcius, It seems about right or close to it. Bill Cole D-41 -
I will certainly be praying for you and your family Jan....all best wishes to you all. Bill Cole D-41

Highest Hot Air Balloon Jump
chuteless replied to Beerlight's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I just checked out the Speed of sound on the internet. I guessed that the temperature at 102000 ft would be -60 C, and I clicked on the site and all the other data based on that Celcius temperature potpped in It reads: -60 C = -76F which gives 294.799 Meters per second 967.1916 Feet per second 660.352 Miles per hour That is the speed of sound with tghe Temperature at 102000 feet "GUESSED" at -60 celcius. I al;so checked out the Speed of sound with a proposed temperature of + 20 Celcius which equals 68 F......which gives the speed of sound as 343,599 Meters per second 1127.296 feet per second 769.664 Miles per hour This indicates that the Speed of sound increases as the temperature increases, and I would think this would take into consideration that the increase in Temp would also mean heavier atmosphere. Im not sure what the speed of sound would be at his altitude, but the most generally used figure is 680 MPH, and I would think that is at MSL. Some easy research onthe net should solve that question. Bill Cole D-41 -
Im just trying to make a point, that because it is"old" it might still be good if it was taken care of. SOME people think they have to have new everything. I'm told that at 71, I'm old...but I am still usable. Maybe if I hadnt had so many crash and burn landings, and had taken better care of myself, I would even be more useable. But maybe you are right...I dont wish to encourage anyone to just take any old rig and use it. Bill Cole D-41

Would it be possible, or advisable to change the data seen on the homepage site more often? I keep hoping top see something new and interesting. Just a thought Bill Cole

I know Joe opened "high", but imagine if someone was already opened and Joe passed close to him still in freefall. Wouldnt that guy do a double take? LOL -
Highest Hot Air Balloon Jump
chuteless replied to Beerlight's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
he would have broken the Speed of sound if he had not used a drogue chute to stabilize himself in the rarified atmosphere. He did hit over 500 MPH, the Speed of Sound approx 680 MPH Good jump nevertheless. Imagine that one in your log book.!!!! -

I doubt he got to 40K on hot air alone. He must have had helium as well. -
So sorry to hear that, Paige. I have a son who has been into cocaine and other things, and its hard to give help to him because he desnt seem to want it. I hope all the his friends will go to the DZ and look into the dream he had, and maybe get involved. Sincerest sympathies....and may you find God's inner peace Bill Cole D-41

thats classy lookin gear I must say. Looks better than that Dora the Exploer backpack of today LOL If someone could find one of old twill 24ft reserves made in the 1040s or 1950s, I would wear it by itself (no other chute) and take it into terminal any day of the week. Those were the chutes used in WW II..before ripstop was invented. I know where there is a white cotton harness of WW II vintage...maybe I'll bring it to Rantoul in August. Bill Cole D-41
-
You are quite right, and that is my point. If the ripstop material of a balloon can still have enough tensile strength to be considered airworthy after UV light and constant use in 15 million BTUs, how much longer then should a reserve last when packed, aired, and repacked/ I would say the reserve would almost last indefinitely. I wont tell you the age of mine....or my mains Bill Cole D-41

I still say the ONLY way to get God's "ear" is through Jesus Christ. He said himself, NO MAN (or woman) cometh unto the Father BUT BY ME. Thats pretty clear....he is the door...to God the Father and there is no other way. Bill Cole D-41
