  1. Go back to the postings on DZ.com for Jan 18-19th 2004. There was some discussion on this topic that may help you If you find one leg is bending in and causing you a problem, bend the other match it and keep symetrical. Bill Cole D-41
  2. I dont really mean a straight stand position, but rather a hunched over stand. Your description is actually better than mine if anyone thinks I meant a straight standup. Sorry, and thanks Bill Cole
  3. I have had dozens of hard openings, the hardest was when I used the 30 ft risors on a Para Commander...Im surprised it didnt break my neck. On others, my helmet came flyinf off. I can make a couple os recommendations that MAY help you. If you arent, you should try to utilize a chin cup on the helmet strap. It allows for tension on the helmet. At the same time, when you open, try grabbing the helmet to prevent it from snapping forward more than necessary. Neck excercises can also strengthen your neck muscles, but wont help the degenerated disks I have damaged disks in neck and back, they are about the size of a quarter in thicknesss. I have never heard of "removing" disks, but have heard of fusing the vertebrae together, although it may not be much of a problem solver. I would think you could still jump but maybe leave the camera off. Some may not agree, but I fiond a standing position opening keeps the head from snapping forward, and it is very much easier on the neck and back. Contrary to some who believe it can cause spinal compression, I find it much easier, and no pain involved at all. I feel some people compare a standup opening with the forces of spinal decompression such as would be from an ejection from a jet. There is NO comparison. Good luck, and stay healthy Bill Cole
  4. The FOX, because he is smarter than most people who graduate university. As for birds, I like the hawk too. Ive had three of my own, absolutely beautifl birds. Bill Cole
  5. I am not saying it will happen to everybody, but I had downloaded a large amount of music from Kazaa, and something went wrong with my computer. I took it to the technician I bought it from, and he said Kazaa actually will stiock a virus into some downloading. I had to have my computer reset and totally cleaned out.Lost all my music before I could get it on CDs Hope thats not yourproblem, but I am leary of Kazaa after that. Bill Cole
  6. Well, 21 or 33....they're good years no matter which. Be thirty three and act 21...LOL Also, since we two are brothers of the sky, call me Bill (not mister). Take care and have a good one. Bill Cole
  7. At 21 you've only begun to live. Happy Birthday, and may you have and enjoy many more. Safe jumping and anything else you do Bill Cole D-41
  8. At a nmajor air shiow in Canada (often featuring the Blue Angels or the Thundferbirds) they keep their alt at MSL, mainly because they fly over such a wide area of altered landscape. They could take off at one base ado their performance over Lake Ontario waterfront, and then carry on to another base....often in another country. Acro flying directly over the landing area, its understandable to set it at zero. At one show, I wwas the first person toget to the body of a Blue Angel pilot...and his crash wasnt due to a false altimeter setting, he just turned over his aircraft and touched the water with a wingtip. Bill Cole
  9. thats a neat picture and I'll bet the pilot has a copy framed on his wall at home. "For some odd reason"??????? All aircraft set their altimeter to MSL. If they were to set it like jumpers, at zero in New York, he would have one heck of a landing in Denver which is 5000+ ft asl. Jumpers set it at zero on the field and jump on the same field. There is NOTHING odd about the reason. About 15 years ago the Thunderbirds were practicing over the Nevada desert. They held a diamond formation, and the flight leader failed to pull out before he hit the desert. The other three followed him....plop,,,plop,,,,plop... four dead in the blinjk of an eye. Bill Cole D-41
  10. Personally, I would rather land after ejection on a Round. If a square was to be headed downwind, they'll likely bury the pilot where he stops rolling.and especially if there happens to be a 30 mph wind on top of the normal flight speed of the square. Bill Cole D-41
  11. I remember them all, the crash and burn landings, the trips to the hospital, the casts on my arm or leg ( some of which I removed the same day it was put on), the concussion, and yes, all the good ones too...too many to list Bill Cole D-41
  12. I was E mailing Snowwhite, and I am going to do my best to be there in August. Sounds like a real great time. God willing, I WILL be there Chuteless D-41(Thats a Canadian D-41)
  13. In my first family, my eldest son made his 1st jump at age 12. His sister later made 1, and his brother made about 30. My youngest sister made about 25, my brother was Canadn National Champion with 1100 jumps, and my 2nd wife made 23.I had another brother who also made a few...not sure how many Bill Cole D-41
  14. Here is a true story for you re the good old days that you mightget a laugh out of: Back in August 1966, I was asked to be part of a load of jumpers to make a dive into the Ponderosa Nature Park, a nudist hangout (if you'll pardon the pun). We left the plane at 4500 feet, and as I landed in an adjacent field to the main action area, I twisted my knee. I looked up, and witnessed about 20 young naked women running toward me. A scene like that simply takes your breath away. We stayed for awhile, had a swim, and took a few color pictures. We then drove back to the airport where our other cars were. About 3 months later, I was asked to give a talk to a group of pilots from a local flying club. I thought this would be a good idea, because if I ever needed a plane for a demo jump, I may be able to call on some of these guys to repay the favor. I got to the flying club, and set up my Carosel Slide Projector with about 50 color slides of parachuting activities. As I clicked the projector along, I would explain what the jumpers were doing etc. I eventually got to the second last slide, and explained the large trophy with small skydivers mounted on the top was the type of prize one could win in competitions. There was a beautiful Para Commander seen descending behind the trophy. I then clicked to the last slide and said, " And this is the consolation prize. It showed me sitting with my chute piled up in front of me, and I had two beautiful young naked women sitting on my knees. The whole place erupted with laughter and shouts of, "We are in the wrong business...lets take up skydiving". The presentation went over extremely well, and calls to have another look at the last color slide. And to think that CSPA says I dont promote skydiving in Canada. LOL Bill Cole D-41
  15. SPOTTING is an art....good spotting can best be obtained by people who consider the ground winds, and recognize the winds aloft and their quick changes. I have allowed guys to spot at some big air shows, and regretted it because they couldnt spot worth a damn under pressure, and yet they could spot at a DZ for a plain jump with no pressure. SPOTTING really is an art. Jumpers using round caniopies were able to spot well, but when they switched to squares, they could fly anywhere, so didnt worry if the spot was accurate. The "wings" forgave bad spotting. Bill Cole D-41
  16. Sure.....Have a great day. Make the most of it, your 30th only comes once, but I hope you have many many more, equally as good. HAPPY BIRTHDAY PAL> Bill Cole D-41 Canada
  17. Sanborn was D-1 in the USPA, Glen Masterson was D-1 in the Canadian Sport Parachute Association. I mistakenly didnt keep the lists separate, so they alternate Canadian and American. Sorry about that. Bill Cole
  18. When typing out the list, I forgot to separate the Canadian and USA jumpers. The list therefore alternates with Glen Masterson D-1 Canada, then Dave Burt B2 USA, then a Canadian, then an American and so on. Sorry for the failure to keep the lists separate. Bill Cole

  20. My first car was a 1932 Pontiac, with no floor boards (a nusiance when you drove through a puddle) and a hole about 12" X 6" in the plate glass windsield. The windshield wiper kept getting stuck in the hole and I'd have to push it back out on every swing. I could and did often start the car with a crank to turn over the engine.
  21. It is a sure thing that Saddam DID possess weapons of mass destruction as he used them on the Kurds. However, that was long ago, and there has been NO evidence he possessed them when Geo W Bush started his war to find what evidently wasnst there. Its like Bush's claim that Saddam was buying material for a bomb from Africa...a story made up to convince the public he was doing the right thing by making war on Iraq. The original attack on the World TradeCenter, followed by the attacks of 9/11, are only the beginning of an all out war against America by the followers of Islam. They will take the technology that the Americans discovered and will use it against America...no matter how long it takes ( and it wont take long at all)...and their goal is to destroy America. Cheney, Rumsfeld and FBI Director mueller have all stated that its just a matter of time, and these wacko Islamic extremists WILL strike again , and it will be with nuclear weaponry. That is the American government telling you it WILL happen. Thy all agreed, there is NOTHING that America can do to stop it. Homeland security make make it a bit harder for them to carry out a nuclear attack...but Homeland Security will never prevent it. There has been two attacks on New York City...and there will be a third and final attack as well. Bill Cole
  22. I am not pulling anyone's ' legs. I dont care if you believe what I wrote or not, I made the call and passed the idea on. For the other guy who said Eisenhower said it, it is recorded that Churchill said it before the Ameicans ever got into WW II, Furthermore, I was in contact with the offices of Rumsfeld, and the offices for a military special project in the Spring of 2003, about several topics. I dont know if anything resulted from those calls and there were many, but I have been willing to do what I could to help in several situations which were of great concern to the Pentagon. And I LIE TO NO MAN Bill Cole D-41
  23. Thanks for asking Quade. I came home after 5 days in hospital. They set up some tests...I went through several sets of them, and ignored the rest. I dont really like doctors anyhow. Actually, I have never felt better than I do right now. I want the end of thisd bitter cold winter, and look forward to warmer (jump weather). If I DO have hardening of the arteries, I doubt it will claim me until after a few more jumps. Till then....live it. Thanks for your kindness and concern Bill Cole
  24. The US government ordered the condoms from a supplier in Japan. My telephone bill for the month I called the Pentagon was quite high, but I thought it was worth the effort. It wasnt done with one call, but many before I got through to someone who would listen. Bill Cole
