  1. Each of the two cars would experience the same deceleration as if they had hit a brick wall at 60mph. I guess it really wouldn't matter though
  2. This is all I can find on that bill: http://www.govtrack.us/congress/billtext.xpd?bill=h109-654 It does look to me like all rifles chambered for any kind of centerfire cartridge that is 50 caliber would be affected. He is actually wanting to change the Gun Control Act of 1968 to lump these rifles in with the silencers and machine guns that section 922 already covers. This bill was not very well thought out or researched. I doubt it's going anywhere, but I think that is all the excuse I need to go buy a BMG. +1
  3. Wow. I hadn't heard about this one. I always assumed the .50 bans would be limited to the .50 BMG. I am curious to see how they would word this one. It would be ridiculous if my .50 beowulfs were illegal and the .499 Leitner-Wise wasn't. Then there's the .50 AE pistol and the new S&W 500.... I just cannot imagine anyone ever calling the rifle below a "sniper rifle".

    is there

    The Gunner does too.
  5. I think I sold mine for about $600 last fall. I would say it's worth at least that if it's in good shape. I don't think you will find any modern ZP canopy going for $350 if it's in decent shape.
  6. If the person had any "know-how", they wouldn't do this at all. Disabling the disconnector on a semi-automatic weapon does not cause it to fire full auto, it turns it in to a dangerous, malfunctioning piece of $hit. If you continue to use it like this it will eventually destroy itself- and possibly your face. There is a reason all production closed bolt full autos have some sort of auto sear.
  7. You just need to hook it harder. Works for me....by the second bounce I usually have bled off most of my speed. On second thought, we jump in kansas- maybe you just need some remedial windsock training. remember: "eat the carrot" I hadn't heard about you incident(s) with the crossfire. Give me call sometime. Sam
  8. Here is just one more link (from Armalite) that might let you rest a little easier: http://www.armalite.com/library/techNotes/tnote45.htm I have always suspected that people made too much of the 5.56 vs .223 issue. I have probably put nearly every brand of NATO ammo through my .223 chambers with no problems. Sam

    train gunk

A rigger once told me that zippo lighter fluid works well to clean small spots and will not damage the canopy. I have not tried it but I know he has used it several times, he actualy keeps the stuff in his shop for just that purpose.
  10. I think the difference is just the throat length. If you have measured the OAL length of your mil-spec ammo and it's within the SAAMI spec then you are probably good. You might also make sure the case length is within spec. I believe the issue is with the bullet being pushed into the rifling and causing overpressure. 5.56 ammo comes from so many different sources that you probably couldn't make a consice list of the "dangerous" ammo distributors. You are better off just measuring your ammo and making sure. Or you could just buy a .50 beowulf upper and then not worry about it
  11. I always assumed that if you're not cutting away a fully deployed main and immediately deploying the reserve, then it's a terminal opening. If someone is advertising a deployment during a baglock as a sub-terminal, then they're full of shit. I have wondered how much difference it would make if they were cutting away a X-brace that was spinning hard though.
  12. If you are at all inclined to build your own, then I would urge you to give it a shot. It's not hard, and really doesn't take any special tools (at least for the lower). It can also be educational and kind of satisfying. I've built several and not had any problem with any of them. That being said, I wouldn't mess with assembling an upper. Re-barreling takes a few special tools and is not really worth the hassle unless you are needing to change the barrel on an upper you already have. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions about it.
  13. The 5.56 chamber is a little looser than the .223 standard. I'm not sure it really matters much, as I have put quite a few rounds of mil-spec ammo through a .223 chambers before I was made aware of this. I'm speculating that it might be more of a problem if you don't clean you firearm regularly. There is a difference though, many manufacturers make you specify which one you want when you order a barrel/upper/parts kit. Edited to add this link from Fulton Armory on 5.56 vs. .233 chambers: http://www.fulton-armory.com/556-vs-223-Chambers.htm
  14. You might have a look at this one:http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=1357351;sb=post_latest_reply;so=ASC;forum_view=forum_view_collapsed;;page=unread#unread or maybe try a search on ground launching. I've never tried that, but it looks like fun. Good luck.
  15. I really like the ASO braces for ankle support. I used one for quite a while after I tore my ankle up back in June. It's a very comfortable brace and you can wear it with you normal footwear.

Yeah, I wasn't trying to de-value what you have done here, but from the direction the thread was headed it seemed like someone needed to point that out. I think that would be very informative, I would love to see the results of that. I was trying to figure out where you had posted that at
  17. Here is a link to an article on dying parachutes (I think this is for the old suplus ones used for decoration): http://www.parachuteshop.com/Dye%20Your%20Parachute.htm He mentions that red rit dye works well.

    Fatality analysis

I'm thinking that there are just a lot more span jumps being made. I don't think you can determine much about the relative safety of different objects from this data. You would have to have a good idea how many jumps are being made total off each object. Better just to make note of what is killing people and try to avoid doing the same. Edit: yeah, what Tom just said

    tailpocket design

Ahh, it's got a grand total of 3 jumps on it...I thought you were giving me shit for that. My vent mesh came white, but then the bottom of my canopy is white too so who knows.

Yes, those things are hideous aren't they. I'll try and work on that
  21. I usualy bring them to a boil (med high heat) and then wait another 10 min. Turn off and let cool for a while before peeling. Don't be afraid of over-cooking hard boiled egss. It really sucks when you peel them and they're runny.

    tailpocket design

I've never uploaded a file here before, but if all went well this should be a picture of the tailpocket on my troll:
  23. I've been wondering about that too. I'm hoping that the stretch in the risers might have prevented any further damage. I'm guessing they are probably designed that way. I emailed the manufacturer about it and I will see what their thoughts are on inspecting the rest of the harness.
  24. The container is fairly new, I think about 150 jumps. What got me thinking about it is when I was removing the risers from my wasted canopy I noticed the pocket that holds the cutaway cable was torn loose most of it length. I can't figure out what it would have snagged on. This might be a stupid though but I was wondering if the riser actually might have stretched enough to pop the stitches (it was a very hard opening). Good point about checking the rings, I hadn't even thought of that yet. Thanks, Sam
  25. I had a really hard opening over the weekend (it destroyed my canopy and did a number on me too). Would replacing the mini-risers after a really violent opening be prudent or am I just being paranoid? I weight about 220lbs also, so that's part of my concern I guess. Sam
