  1. Hi BIGEM, I am also covered even in view that I told them that I jump. I was given a rate higher than most (wuffos) maybe 30% . They do not exclude extreme sports, just charge extra. It's a real grey area with policy exclusions that most (skydivers) should examine your policy in it's entirety. It's an area that some Ins. co's can get off at the time of loss. Just be very careful of "non disclosure". I work in Insurance and I do like the comfort of their indemnity clause but I DON'T like their ambiguity with policy endorsements and exclusions So everyone... do your homework. It varies from State to State.
  2. congrats Goose, welcome to this mind altering sport, great people, cold beer, good memories, being able to smile everytime you look up at the sky. I could go on & on Now you can tell your sis or bro "catch me if you can"
  3. try to post something intelligent, "how would you feel if you go in". I cant believe I am reading this and responding to it. I am holding my head so it wont explode. What the F$%k would make one ask that question. Are you a troll, journalist, lawyer or just an asshole. Have a good evening. Iam am still typing with one hand
  4. Thanks Ron, I don't feel qualified to offer advice to others but I DO feel qualified to act in a safe and prudent manner if I experience my own snafu's. I listen to everyone with a vengence and talk very little. That is advice I CAN give. Shut up and listen.
  5. That is an interesting ?. I do post my jumps only because I have so little (60). I sometimes will read a thread that involves jumpers with 1,2,or 3K jumps and I am reluctant to respond, yet I have had some serious situations in my short time that I would like to share but I don't . I just read these forums and will get what I am looking for rather than post. These forums have given me a tremendous amount of info which I always discuss with all @ the DZ, with an overwhelming majority. I have landed off 4 times, had 4 bad line twist (2 near chop) and I still dont feel qualified to converse with the 1000 or so jumpers, These mishaps were my own fault and I am glad that I am here to post them. I am getting off the subject... I don't care about your jump#'s... If you give me a liitle "smigget" bit of advice for me to have a beer @ the end the day. "YES IN DEEDY"
  6. ask to be the last one out and do what ever you want to do, I did that, it kept me away from other jumpers as not to endanger them with my inexperience and it gave me a great amount of time to learn my body. Just make sure your stable upon deplyment. I still do the same thing, I will stay away from everyone from exit to flare. I have my own set of peas and once I master them I'll go to their landing area. Please don't rush because of how impressive it might look. This is not advice but just a way of keeping one safe until you feel that " yeah I can do this". Again Don't rush, just enjoy and learn slow.
  7. I started this sport @46 and am in good shape but stretching is a big plus for me. It helps when I do those crash & burns (plf).
  8. I am surprised by some of the posts.. :"I pay the rigger to save my life". Yeah, yeah, yeah I know that is what they do for a living, but come on think about the amount of $ you have spent in your years skydiving. When you have a reserve ride, what the hell is the big deal about $15 or $20 bucks on a bottle or soda, dinner, lunch. It's all part of the camaraderie of this sport. As a matter of fact I have a bottle in my gear bag as we speak for tomorrow.
  9. had the same problem, the instructors told me what I was doing wrong but I thought "no way I did that". Next 4 jumps were video, your instructors can see what your doing because they are right there but I guess some people have to see it to believe it. Hey a training video is alot cheaper than a redo. Good luck brother, you'll get it
  10. How about "BOINK" you can find it in my log book on many pages. Thanks Bill @ SDLI. LMAO
  11. Ian had a great response, it works big time. Just look up at the plane, it's also fun watching others get out, but dont forget to look below, left & right. Good Luck Brother
  12. It's so ironic you said that way point theory. My last out that is exactly what I did. I guaged my distance while looking at my alti and new if I was not a certain point @ 500' I could make it back to the alternate that I had choosed @ 1500'.
  13. I had ahead start on the sensory overload, on the way to the drop zone we were passing towns called fishKILL,plateKILL.catsKILL, then about 4 cemetaries. I get all geared up then manifest garbled something and 30 or 40 people ran out to the peas. They were doing a memorial for someone who went in. Very comforting. Then as we left the door, one nanosecond later we were flaring. My eyes were open the whole time (video) but I think my brain fell out. It all came back to me after consuming an amount of beer that I didnt think I was capable of doing. This sport is second to none. Enjoy,be smart & be safe
  14. Im going out to the DZ sat morn and I am going to have a mal...on the 1st 2nd and 3rd load therefore Im ready...... "hope it's an easy one"
  15. I would have to say Nickie from the Ranch. She was quite talented, quick witted and a pleasure to be around. Another one I remember was Guy Wright, Nickie was not there. We get out @ 13,5 and I went i out of control flipping like a coin, I finally get my dumb ass stable @ 8k and when I did Guy was right in my face with his hands turned up and could read his lips "what the F%^& are you doing"
  16. thanks for the input, I am really looking foward to this class
  17. I have two, I ended up almost on my back while the pilot was half to line stretch (too late to correct) then thought about the hook knife.. Oh by the way I didnt have one on that (could have) nasty jump. enough said
  18. have to agree with mrhoop, it's a matter of math, such as to ditribute the energy. It's a proven theory that one can't argue. As for the traditional PLF, it works for me because that is what I was taught. If anyone can use a different method then do it. One still has to keep in mind that it (the fall) has to be distributed on as many points of the body as possible. Look at the Indy racers.... why do they survive... because their cars are designed to absorb the impact prior to the driver. My .02
  19. Hey All, I just signed up for the Scott Miller canopy class. From the buzz it's a pretty good class for new jumpers. Has anyone done this (stupid question). Just want know what to expect.
  20. Welcome KC, I have learned alot from these forums along with along with my instructors and the SIMS. And you will meet some of the best ppl at your drop zone and bump into ppl that you met right here. Good luck, be safe and enjoy
  21. have to agree with deNReN. I also found a huge difference with a jump suit (Im a new jumper also) so anything that would make my freefall better I will try. Once I get better in the sky then I will reconize each movement in more detail. I don't like that potato chipping thing and the suit helped. Maybe it's in my head but it helped me. As for the grass stains, I have more of a problem getting them out of my forehead rather than the jumpsuit.
  22. I had the same thing, scares the snot out one. The second time someone told me(also mentioned here) to drink a ton of water. I also consumed about 6 bananas (no pun intended everyone) the bananas have a great source of potassium. Oh well it worked for me and its not some wackey remedy just good old fruit and H2O. Enjoy and stay awake brother!!!!
  23. at 56 jumps I went with a 190, because at 47 I don't heal as quick when I was 20ish. Thank God I started this sport late in life otherwise I would be one of those 150 or smaller people. I no longer have the need for speed, just enjoying the ride.
  24. this thread is already outa control. My response is >>> I rented this rig.. If I lose it you eat it.. thats why you take the risk of rental and why I pay $15 per jump. If you want me to pay for an unfound main, get on line brother.
  25. I had the same problem during AFF, my exit improved when I looked up the plane for about 3 or so seconds upon exit, then the stable thing I did was toe taps.. it helped me big time. In retrospect it;s what my instructors told me from the get go but paid little attention to the importance of it. Hot shit man.... it works. Now I have to work on the rest of the stuff (alot). Instructors will give you all the info you need, and as you move along a little light will go off to bring you back to that point . You have heard the "been there done that" and instructors have been there a whole bunch of times. They are our (newbies) pioneers. Good luck
