  1. I am still working on my fall rate and while doing a two way this morning I had and always have had a problem getting down. Someone suggested loosening my chest strap a bit as it would allow me to arch more??? It's frustrating to constantly look down at everyone with them looking up saying "well". Would an inch or so on the chest strap give me that addtional arch???
  2. Don't pet the swetty things, just enjoy the sport, the people, to buy beer on a "first" is tradition not mandatory. We have people that dont drink at the dz that dont bring beer. I and the rest of us do not have a problem with that, "no biggy brother". PS: you might have to do a neked one @ the 100th
  3. It will be a first for me, BBQ will be going all day and and the mean greens's all evening, It will be there on Friday 7/9 until 7/12 going to 13,5 all weekend.
  4. this was my worse nightmare, I did my 4solo (aff) at 13,5 and didnt get stable until about 8k, scary shit and it was all due to my exit, then one day @ the DZ some guy Kip Lohmiller asked me what was printed on the bottom of the plane... Bingo.... I will remember that for the rest of my life. Get out and look up and you will arch weather you want to or not. And it's cool to watch the next guy get out, then you gotta look elsewhere for others in the sky. That first 4 or 5 seconds is the key and if u feel like your going unstable again.. look around for others then look up. Hey it worked big time for me . As for all who are reading this, I just added my .02 because of my own experience . I am not qualified to offer advice. Some learn by others mistakes
  5. Learned my lesson, I did a H&P and was tipped off by another jumper to look out for a guy that was getting out after me. I discussed the separation with him prior to the jump in the the plane, hence I got out and dumped looked up to check my lid and this effing moron was already open above me (maybe 200'). I pulled my front risers down to my feet (felt like it) and couldnt wait to confront this asshole when I got down but he landed off so I didnt get the chance. I will remember his face for the rest of life. A philipino guy at crosskeys. Not a good thing with my little experience
  6. conrats on your AFF, as for looking skyward, get used to it because you will do it the rest of your life. Then you will (which you have NOT before) notice one set of clouds going in a different direction than another group of clouds. If you are a smoker and wing your spent cigarette out of your window while driving you automatically think "relative wind" as you watch it descend to the asphalt then lock your brakes up when the guy in front of you is stopped. When in your life have you really gave a flying shit where the winds were coming from, now it's a major factor but dont dicuss these things with your wuffo friends because they already dont like the fact that you have a bigger speed bag than them or shopping bags (breasts female). Just smlie and enjoy. Enjoy and MOST important be SMART and safe.
  7. I rec'd my G3 with pillows but changed the reserve to the D ring due to limited strength in my left hand. Missing 2 fingers on my left hand via table saw. With the D ring I can get my thumb into it.
  8. I quit smoking... $5 per day in the the ole bucket and brown bagged my lunch another $5 a day in the bucket. It worked for me. But it really sucked to mug old people to buy my rig!!!!
  9. I read a post before on this subject and scared the hair off my speedbag therefore I have added it to my check of three's. And I look at everyone on the way to altitude. Dont pet the swetty things
  10. ***I also believe that his inexperience should have kept him in the aircraft riding it down with some other jumpers and the tandem students. ??? whats up with that statement ???
  11. Too many pros and cons (similar to the RSL question) My opinion is that if one is hard of hearing a full faced is good because it's easier too hear your audible. That said I am hard of hearing and bought and sold my audible after 4 jumps because I couldnt hear the alarms.(dont have a full face). Maybe it was a blessing in disgiuse because I have become very familiar with my dropzone and with the ground to decent (even @ other DZ,s) the good old alti is fine by me.
  12. Great Video, One of my comrades (Dunk) @ my dropzone thought I had the registered trademark for this landing. Your going to hear from my attorney dude. Im still LMAO. Larry fingers PS: Why the hell do WE do that, maybe we can compare notes
  13. my fear became more prevelant as i progressed. My fear then regressed once I started to learn about the dynamics of body flight and canopy control. Your feelings of fear are normal because jumping out of a plane is not normal. "don't ever lose respect of that piece of nylon above your head"
  14. Thats normal, there is alot different stages that I encountered,, exit, getting stable, setting up and landing.I got the 1st 3 down pretty good. The landings were a problem so I went for a canopy class (Scott Miller) and it gave me a great sense of confidence. Just as mentioned in some prior posts once you start to learn about the equipment and how and why it works then your fear will subside while your confidence level increases. It's human nature that you say "what the hell am I doing" . If I ever completely lose my fear I will give it up because if you lose that you have then lost respect for that piece of nylon above your head.
  15. Great Post Derek, You went the extra mile, the info (in my view) was enough for any jumper to make an informed decision on this RSL issue. Put your post in your favorites as it WILL come up again. Thanks for making some of those gray areas black & white.
  16. great reply and really LMAO. you made my day
  17. rest assured, we all feel the way you do. I was fortunate that I started this sport aka (vice) at 46 yrs old..kids grown up, no mortgage, don't have to mow the lawn, rake, clean gutters. I just go to the DZ on the weekends.
  18. Welcome Jason, It,s a hellava sport, great for the mind and the people that you will meet are second to none. Good luck, be safe and be a good listener
  19. Thanks Darren, I owe you a beer buddy
  20. I corrected that by looking around in between moves. I would do, thats east ,look at the alti, thats north ,look at the alti.. etc.... But just to relax as the instructor tells you is the key, it will rid you of the ole potato chip synrome.
  21. I have seen it here before but could not find the movie at Hollywood video. They looked at me with the " what the hell are you talking about" Anyway if anyone knows how I can find it please let me know
  22. I got it done years ago and the doctor told me to stay in the prone position for 24 hrs...no exception. I felt great 4 hours after and decided to mow the lawn. well I NEVER thought my speed bag could get as big as grapefruit and so I called the doctor he said" the 1st 24 hrs are critical so now suffer" So in response to your ? dont do anything for 24 hrs. That is the threashold. Good luck Brother
  23. A guy by the nick name "Bobo' from canada did something similiar, he was an instructor who pulled his students main. The student was in a flipping out of control freefall when he did this and from I gather he waited to make sure his student's main deployed. When all was well with his student it was too late for him. I assumed he did not have an AAD. It was a sad story (as always) because this guy was an exceptional person and skydiver who's main concern was his student. When I reach the pearly gates I will shake his hand and buy him a beer.
