Gear check, gear check, gear check!
VanillaSkyGirl replied to matttrudeau's topic in Safety and Training
Why would they let her rent gear without making sure that she knew how to turn on the cypress? Where I rent my gear, they are required to watch the rig renters set their cypresses - no matter how knowledgeable the jumper is. I think that the school/gear shop is also at fault for overlooking her. This poor girl was doing a solo and had just completed her AFF courses. They should have helped her before she boarded the plane. -
WooHoo! Yes, when is yours, Viking?

Gemini... but, I guess we are the hotties of the Zodiac anyway Yes, we are!

Hi Betty! How long did it take for you to get your Hot Bod suit. I am ordering one tomorrow. I am 5 ft. 100 lbs., and I want a serious RW suit made to fit me. I think that I know what options that I want, but do you have any suggestions? Thank you!

this is such a great sport with such great energy, and great people, I love it! I agree! If we meet someday we should definitely go fly together, I'd be honored to do a 2-way with you! -
100th mexico beach jump
VanillaSkyGirl replied to INSANEDADDY's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
How high did they take you for $30.00? Do you have any pics to post? Btw, the rig hassling sounds awful. I am latin and fluent in Spanish, but it still would be a pain in my bum to deal with that. Do they have rental gear? I don't know...when I finish setting up my rig, I may be picky about where I take her. I wouldn't want the feds manhandling her. Then again, with my own gear, I wouldn't be scared of what's inside the container and whether or not it will open, if you know what I mean. -
100th mexico beach jump
VanillaSkyGirl replied to INSANEDADDY's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
What part of Mexico is that? What kind of plane did they have? A beach jump sounds beautiful, and Mexico is not too far a destination! I'll keep this trip in mind for the future. Congratulations on your 100th! Did you get pied? -

New to tracking...I floated...
VanillaSkyGirl replied to VanillaSkyGirl's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
WOW!!! that is sooo cool. Thank you, Phree! I'll experiment while on my next tracking dive. Adjustments will have to be made to follow the leader. I am going to look for more pictures as they really helps me visualize it. This helps to clarify my initial questions. -
People think we're crazy!! How Come??
VanillaSkyGirl replied to Demian's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
unless you are 100lbs and on a 290 causing you to spend the whole afternoon in the air... That was me at my old DZ. They only had 280 mains for me. I was up there for a while... Demian, I jump at ELSINORE. I prefer it over Perris. -

New to tracking...I floated...
VanillaSkyGirl replied to VanillaSkyGirl's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Arching in tracking dives is common and unless the person on their back can really fly, you will need to probally arch to stay down to them. Phree, where should my arms be when I am tracking in an arch? Do I keep my legs togethr or slightly spread? You should eventually be able to use that extra altitude to rule the sky. Whoa... Thanks for the positive words, Quade. -
Not ashamed to say my flare sucks
VanillaSkyGirl replied to MochaSkyChick's topic in Safety and Training
The other thing that works for me is that when I'm on final, I keep repeating in my head - "Finish the flare." - because I was told that although I was starting the flare, I never finished it when I was trying to land. And it works, and then I stand up my landings. Oh my God, I do this, too, Cora! I am/was having similar problems, but when I am focused and talk myself through "finishing the flare" - I stand them! -
New to tracking...I floated...
VanillaSkyGirl replied to VanillaSkyGirl's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I am new to everything related to skydiving, but my question specifically has to do with tracking. I tried a tracking dive, and I ended up floating like crazy. Of course, I don't have this problem in freefall normally, but when I tracked...I kept floating higher & higher. Since I am quite small, I was wondering what I can do? Is this something that can be corrected by positioning my body differently. Later, it was suggested that I should arch more while tracking, so that I wouldn't float so much. I'm confused. I thought that we had to dearch and cup the air by rolling our shoulders inward to track effectively. What should I do? I want to try another tracking dive where I don't have to stop tracking to "get down" closer to the others. HELP! -
Hush up, Steven, or I'll never pick up your carrots off the ground, again! I wonder if Tad's aware that we are discussing HIM? I may have some 'splaining to do! I'll just make an face...that should distract him...

Oooooo...we're thinking of going to Hollister. We'll definitely let you know when we do!

People think we're crazy!! How Come??
VanillaSkyGirl replied to Demian's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
...they do "push" you from the plane. Oh my gosh, they do? I was pushed (actually...pullled) on my AFF 1. It was also my first jump ever (no tandems for me), so I was a little at the door! It's sooo funny looking back on that now. My AFF 4 was a dive out, I believe. It was out of a King Aire, and we couldn't slow it down as there had been some mix up with the flaps. (I don't know the technical terminology as I was still a student when it happened.) Anyhoo, I LOVED IT. Demian, people definitely DO NOT think that I am crazy, but they do say that I have "balls" for doing an AFF1 as my first jump. I DO NOT have balls, but I know what they mean. Actually, I have been frightened many times, and I probably will be many more times when trying new things in the air. I believe that being truly brave is being scared, but facing your fears, anyway. (Right, Michele?) Btw, DO NOT DOWNSIZE, until your instructors suggest it. Blue skies! -
I wonder what Anne could have cum across ...I can destroy it leaving only the original... there will be no more imitations... LOL! I understand...I hate copycats. Good luck with your quest then. (Search and destroy!) Well, because I am such a sweet , that picture was a shocker. Personally, I only have eyes for the real thing...my honeybear Tad a.k.a. Wintermute. Eventually Roy, Tad and I will visit you & Ronnie/Haley up at Monterey, again. (That is where you jump regularly, isn't it?) See ya later! Remember, search & destroy...search & destroy...search & destroy...search & destroy...

Oh my... Hmmmmm...how did YOU come across THAT, Mr. Muller?

Sorry, David. I didn't mean to take over this thread. Your initial post was really informative for me. Btw, how long, did it take to get the suit after ordering it? I am going to South American on the 27th, and I will be back around July 7th. I would like to jump with my suit as soon as I return. I don't know if I should ask for it to be rushed. Thanks, everyone for all the answers to my questions! These hints are FABULOUS! I am always learning so much from the posts.

I'm sending you all my vibes, prayers and hugs. I'm so sorry for your sadness. Please know that you will always find support and love from your sky family.

Thank you for your great advice! Wendy also PMed me about this. (Thanks, Wendy.) Actually, yes, I am definitely getting weights! I realized that I will need this when I do RW 4-ways or big-ways. Yes, I have decided to make it a weight belt. Of course at 30 jumps, I was a little new for that. I will definitely need the extra weight for the type of skydiving that I want to do. It WILL make it easier on me. Since I am still not completely comfortable with my landings, I have not worn weights, yet. I have a feeling that I will begin using them pretty soon, though. Thanks, again & blue skies!

Thank you so much for the information, Jonathon & Eric. I will definitely call Bev to discuss my suit. I am asking my mentor at my DZ and my BF, as well, but I want to hear as many opinions as possible. I decided on the Bev Hot Bod based on other females at my DZ's opinions of what worked for them and why. However, I am at home now & trying to decide on the extra features. Of course, because I am 5 ft. 100 lbs., I have completely the opposite problems that a larger man may have. The great thing is that with my arch, I can fall with very fast fallers without weights. The heaviest that I've tried a belly dive with was at my jump #30. He is 230 lbs. (6ft) out the door, and it was NO problem staying eye to eye with him in my freefly suit and his street clothing! Thank you, again, everyone. I am very excited about this suit!
