  1. Not whole lot different if you substitute, Bush, Cheney, Enron, Worldcom etc etc. Cost of doing business. Opening the shark cage will do that.
  2. And this proves there isn't? Williams isn't part of the media.. Of course he is. He's a journalist and commentator. Duh.
  3. I'm thinking that you might have some problems with Antarctica. You may have to blow on it to get it warm.

  5. That would sound awful. Kind of like mixing ice cream, gasoline, and chili powder. All good in their own right, but highly crappy when mixed together. A truly great band is more than sum of it's parts. That's why so many artificially created supergroups fail miserably. There are one or two exceptions though, namely bands like Cream or Led Zepellin. Mind you, every time I think of a fantasy band, it usually turns out to be The Ramones, AC/DC, or Motorhead, depending on my mood.
  6. I'm the other way. I never even open my copy of Parachutist. It just goes straight in the recycle bin. I've always been like that though. I find reading about it or watching videos of it painfully dull. I much prefer to o do it instead.

    ADD/ADHD

Thank you for saying that. The trivialization is why I never use it as a crutch. But, I've had ADHD explained this way: People with ADHD are playing baseball without a glove. Sure, they can play, but it's a lot more difficult to make what would be easy catches. Meds give the ADHD afflicted a glove. This doesn't mean that the meds will turn the ADHD person into Jim Edmonds, but will make the easy catches easy. I like the description of your thought process being the TV, and someone else has the remote. Somedays. the channel surfing in my head stops me from doing anything at all. It can be quite entertaining though, and actually helps me to inutuitively grasp solutions to problems that people can't solve in a linear logic fashion. That's pretty valuable for a code monkey like myself.
  8. Cost of doing business on the web. I used to use my real address for that, but I ended up getting around 6000 spams a month, which renderd it unusable. That's why I use the yahoo address now. I have to say that their spam blocking is excellent. I've yet to see them quarantine anything that I need. Also, if you own your own domain name, you're kind of toast anyway, because a lot of spambots will just unleash torrents of this crap at you with fake postmaster@ and admin@ type addresses. Also, if you are using MS Outlook, search for a file called filters.txt and add in offending words like cum. That will at least get them in the junk pile for you.

    ADD/ADHD

Try not to confuse the current trend for over-diagnosis of this condition with trivializing the condition for people that genuinely suffer from it. I know when I'm being lazy, and when I'm having problems with it. Mental training will only take you so far. After a while, it helps to medicate.
  11. Fork braces stop flexing of the front end in turns and under heavy braking, especially if you only have one disc up front. They should be installed with other things that make the front end perform, such as progressive springs, cartridge emulators, and much much heavier oil. HD's come with 10 weight in the front. I change that out to at least 30 weight fork oil. Also, you'll have to upgrade the units on th back. It's night and day once you do though.
  12. Well, it's nice to see everyone chipping in to do their part.
  13. So stick it on a Christian message board. There would be more mouth breathers there who might appreciate it.
  14. Yep that's real. That's the Gothenburg club's Skyvan. I jumped that many times. They don't have it any more though.
  15. Not really. If you haven't upgraded your fuel and intake, you're basically making more noise than power, although there will be a little increase in delivered horsepower at the back wheel. A mistake that's often made on normally aspirated bikes is that the air and pipes are done, but the bike isn't rejetted to compensate for the ensuing lean condition. You shouldn't have this problem if you have a properly mapped injection module. There's plenty of easy software upgrades for your module, but to be really sure, you should get it installed and tuned on a dyno by a pro to avoid any nastiness. You can lunch a top end really fast running a hard lean motor. I personally reccomend you take it to Marin Ironworks/BFD Racing in Novato and have John "The Russian" Federof and Andy Borge work it up on the dyno there. They are the only people I let futz with my motors other than me. These guys have a great in house dyno and know how to use it, which isn't always the case in a lot of shops. The number is (415) 897 0553

    ADD/ADHD

WIth a new business, new wife, new baby, new locale, my coping skills definitely needed some work. Turns out the meds have done good things. I've also found that standing on a street corner waving an empty sherry bottle at passers-by, or yelling "bananas are the instruments of Satan" on public transport, is a very effective way of cutting down the number of people that you have to deal with on a daily basis.

    ADD/ADHD

I swore off all drugs and alcohol when I started jumping. I didn't drink or do any kind of drug for 10 years, until I started running Z Hills, at which point I decided a little alcohol for medicinal purposes was OK. I still don';t touch hard drugs or opiates. I found as I got older, the medication helped more, as it just may be that the responsibilites that you take on require a more consistent pattern of behaviour.

    ADD/ADHD

Had it for years. Currently taking Concerta, which I forgot to take this morning, so I don't expect do get much done at work today. I'll just drink lots of caffiene to try to kick up the attention a bit. I've been working on an article about it for a little while, that I may present to Skydiving when it's done. What a lot of people don't realise is that ADD cases are overrepresented from the norm in not only skydiving, but most extreme sports. ADD sufferers are drawn to high risk behaviours as a means of self medicating. Unfortunately, they are also drawn to other high risk behaviours ans lifestyles, such as sexual addiction and drug use. I know that for most of 80's, working as a professional musician, I was mired solidly in both. It was finding skydiving which I credit with saving my life at that point. I found that doing it calms me and allows me to focus. (As an aside, a lot of ADD medication has similar effects on neurotransmittters as cocaine and other opiates, just with the fun high part). Also, you can sometimes tell an ADD sufferer from their lack of social filters. Anyone who hangs around me for any length of time will agree that whatever goes through my mind falls out of my mouth, no matter how innapropriate it may be. The reverse of this coin, is that ADD sufferers are capable of feats of hyper focus that "normal" people can only dream of. If we actually attach our attention to something, we can find ways to accomplish tasks that normal people have problems with. There's so much to this syndrome that it's impossible to really discuss it on a forum like this, but I strongly suggest reading the book Driven to Distraction. It's possibly one of the best books written on the subject.

    ADD/ADHD

It's really expensive. Most insurnce companies don't want to cover you for it until you've been proven not to respond to other ADD meds such as Ritalin or Concerta.

  23. The woman is barely functional on any level apparently. Even the prosecution admitted that she wasn't really responsible for her actions, but the McNaughton rule on insanity is so narrow that even someone as disturbed as her couldn't qualify. Both prosecution and defense psychiatrists diagnosed her as a severe paranoid schitzophrenic who was a danger to herself and other around her. I think she needs to be in a medical facilty, not a jail. If anyone deserves to be in a jail, it's that religious nutbag of a husband of hers, that kept forcing a seriously disturbed woman to have kids against medical advice, telling her it was God's plan for them, whilat her mental state clearly deteriorated to all those that knew her. The saddest thing about this is that it could have been avoided if a combintaion of religious fundamentalism, lack of medical care, and an unconcerned doctor hadn't just left a severely disturbed woman on the edge alone, to care for and attempt to home school five small children.
