  1. Planning is all about effective goal setting and follow through. Granted, Goals can change and the applications may change, but without a solid system of goals I can't see personal progression lasting more than a few seconds. Also like in any teaching/leading situation, goals are things to be reported and accounted on - a self motivated person will take his or her personal goals and give an accounting of them, even if it is to themselves. This is my plan for planning - I feel strongly about the importance of not only planning, but planning well and in an orderly system. I don't remember how I jump - I was going to try it today after taking 2 years off the sport, but having no car kept me on the ground. Boring enough for you? Maybe I need to make a personal checklist for a dive... Hmmmm.... This could be fun! =========Shaun ==========
  2. I would imagine that a collar would serve the main purpose of keeping a necktie in place. (Wild Guess). Look at pictures of clothing in America from around the 1840's - it seems to be a mix between a collar and a more traditional ruffel - Maybe a collar is just an evolved fuction from this origional clothing? This is all a wild guess... It makes sense to have "collared shirts" requested - just a professional appearance. Granted, manners and ediquet look a lot better in practice then my attemped explanation on this forum... =========Shaun ==========
  3. "THAT is NOT safe!" "Wash the Deck, and THEN 30 Lashes!" "that would be UNWISE!" I'm Sam the Eagle.
  4. Everytime I think I know what I'm doing - I do something that makes me realize that I really don't. I would bet that if we (as Skydivers) made more people feel welcome (especially low numbers) our sport would grow exponentially. Jump numbers means respect? I don't think so. I'll respect the instructor who knows his students names before the hot-shot who won't jump with anybody lower that x-amount. =========Shaun ==========
  5. Anybody remember me? I used to post a lot here on Dz.com - It's been a while since I've posted on Dz.com - but Since I'm heading back into Skydiving it's time to start posting again. You see- I took a 2 year break. Had some responsibilities to take care of and I put my rig down for a few seasons. Took off school, moved away - I've spent the last 2 years in Seoul and in the surrounding cities on a number of assignments - mostly involving Korean Sign Language and teaching in it and teaching it to others. It was hard but rewarding. Now It's time to get back to life as a college student and skydiver. I was hoping to make a jump today, but I don't know what that will be like. It'll be weird to get back in the air - I was a former Static line instructor and Coach - I'll probably have to start by remembering which leg goes in the harness first. I've been in contact with a former colleauge and he will help me back up in the air - I've been looking forward to it. I've been practicing my Emergency procedures for the last 2 years on the ground - Muscle memory should still be dependable - but I'll take it slow back into the air. I've waited 2 years to jump again - no need to skip the fine details and just jump again - but I hope to be back jumping every weekend now. The next few days I'll spend getting accustomed to life back in Kansas - I saw Root Beer, beef jerky, and really big truck drivers for the first time last night - I also keep busy reading as many books in Korean as I can to keep up the language, also watching movies is a help - too much sweat and blood (study every morning for 4 hours plus all of our work and business was in Korean) put into it to forget. I'm still kind of on duty now - I have a few interviews in a few hours in which I need to give a reporting of what I did, then back to normal life. It's weird being home - Relearning my hometown is an interesting experience. I need to call the DZ and say Hi to people, then I need to try to get out to the DZ and jump - but car shopping isn't until monday, so I'll have to figure that one out. Nice to meet you all (again!!) =========Shaun ==========
  6. Well said - That is what I need to learn!! I forgive & forget, and that doesn't work out so well...... =========Shaun ==========
  7. I did these exact directions to my Racer just a day or two ago - I was amazed at how much dirt, grime, & sand came out of a rig which looked brand new and is less than a Year old!! I can see now how much wear & tear is really put on a Rig through normal use even when taken care of.... Thank you.... =========Shaun ==========
  8. I'll be in Vegas for New Years!! I'm not lined up for any of the Shows, But I'll be sneaking up to Mesquite to see some of my friends and hopefully try out this new Caravan of theirs....
  9. AAAAAHHHHHH!!! I've been obsessive over this damn game and playing it for almost an hour straight. My best time is 200 seconds, no errors what-so-ever. I'll be at it the rest of the night trying to beat that.... =========Shaun ==========
  10. I thought it was a hoot - The Director is a friend of my Brothers and grew up right here in Manhattan Kansas! Whohoo!! My dad Said it the Best.... "This is just a Movie About Mouth Breathers!!!" =========Shaun ==========
  11. The Pink one???! =========Shaun ==========
  12. Nah - That's normal Skydiving attire dude. If you had an afro and Some Gold Chains, THAT would be too Bling Blingy.
  13. Hey, Looks like a good container to me!! Now all you need is a Matching RW suite to go with it - you can't turn points dressed like that!! =========Shaun ==========
  14. Oups, my bad. Looks like my theater has some early "special request" showing starting at 12:10. That's still really early for movies! =========Shaun ==========
  15. It's a big theater too!!! Until this thread, I thought that was Normal!! I mean, I just didn't understand who went to movies in the morning - to me thats just, weird.... Maybe someday when I get outa Kansas, I'll ask some gal out for a Morning Date, Movie & Lunch?!?! [email] That's just screwed up!!! =========Shaun ==========
  16. Phew. I played that puppy for a while. 98%, 1 mile error, 213 seconds... Yahoo!!!! =========Shaun ==========
  17. I think you are comparing apples to Oranges here. You claimed later in your post how this isn't a totally fair argument - This is True. I'm not a BASE jumper, but I'm sure you could vouch for me and say that there is a LOT that goes into the sport than just packing the single canopy, and the risks involved in the low & often obstructed depolyment. It's a way of life for some, just as skydiving is. If a Rigger does not want to make a Base jump, then that says absolutly nothing about his ability as a rigger, IMHO. =========Shaun ==========
  18. Discuss, Okay. Sheesh, Who goes to the Movies in the Morning?!!? Most theatres I know of don't even start the matena (spelling, I killed that one..) until like 2:00 or something - what kinda wierdo movie theatres do YOU go to?!? Oh yeah, I saw the movie too. It was VERY well done, definatly worth seeing.
  19. I can't believe it - 22,000 dead, and still counting, and our priorities are Jet Li & some guy who's been on Oprah?! Pathetic - I have seen very few funds set up for relief of those who were affected, and almost all media coverage I've heard is concerning well-known Americans who MAY have been hurt. I have an issue with this... =========Shaun ==========
  20. Sounds to me like you made a wise decision, Killer. If her time managmement skills really were a threat to your business, you simply can't afford the risk of keeping her around. By the way, is it ever a challenge to be in a practice with your wife? How does that work out for you? =========Shaun ==========
  21. Excellent Thought. I think you could be very happy with a Spectre/Vector3 combination! Just make sure to get the Local riggers/Dealers/Instructors in on this.. =========Shaun ==========
  22. Hey BCH - What do you call An Engineer with a "C" Average? What kinda GPA is needed for Grad School in these here parts, anyways? =========Shaun ==========
  23. Hearing this makes me wonder if it is particular to Wing Loading or perhaps inconsistancies coming from the Factory... I just don't know - I was just sharing my particular experience.... They are a good Container. They are Really comfy and the People at JumpShack are a pleasure to work with. Almost every container manufacturer out there has their own benchmark and beliefs as to what makes a good harness/container system. A Racer just makes sense to me. It just works....
  24. Yup... You pretty much summed it up right there. We had labs in DiffEq which nobody understood, and If I'd busted my butt and done a few more Extra Credit Labs, I'd easily have gotten a B or even an A. What got me the C was that because he had so much Extra Credit Offered, he had to Curve the Class DOWN. So pretty much to get an A, you had to have over 100%, et cetera. I did really well on all my exams, but without the EC Bullcrap, I fell into a C-range. How dumb is that?!?! =========Shaun ==========
