The TRV-22 can also be a side mount. Dgilling, just go ahead and buy the d-box. It's worth it to protect the camera. ______________________________________________ - Does this small canopy make my balls look big? - J. Hayes -

Yeah I have heard that from a few people, probably because we were having the gear discussions WAY after the beer light came on. There was also a guy (on this thread) who mentioned the danger of a misfire if on the step. It's not really saying he wouldn't be on the plane, but in a twisted way it somewhat conveys that. Speaking of getting wacked in the face, I was packing a Mirage this weekend and my pull-up cord broke as I was putting my last temp-pin in. Got me right in the kisser. You would have laughed... How do they know it will work? Can they guarentee it? The unit that went from 0-9999- Airtec said it should work normally. However they didn't even know what the problem was. I'm glad they know it will but they had no idea what was wrong. The owner decided not to use it, ( would you jump a unit that zeroed at 9999? I wouldn't) but the US service center couldn't fix it, so it went to Germany. We never received an answer to what was wrong. I guess that's a better way of put it than no further investigation. The rigger contacted them again to see about the final conclusion, they said you shouldn't have any more problems, but nothing about the issue at hand. Again I'm not saying the Cypres is a bad unit. I'm just pointing out that they have had a lot of issues just like Vigil. If you don't like the product, don't buy it. It also irritates me how people say they won't get on a plane/ jump if someone's got a Vigil. Do they feel the same about people with an FXC? I personally have seen a two of misfires with that at 3000'. just food for thought. Blue ones D ______________________________________________ - Does this small canopy make my balls look big? - J. The Ft. Bragg area is full of really good DZs. Like John (slotperfect) mentioned -Raeford has a super otter and sometimes the CASA will fly. The Ft. Bragg Sport Parachute Activites Club (formally the Green Beret Sport Parachute Club) operates out of [ url "www.skydiveparkton.com" ] Skydive Parkton . That's the lowest cost training in the area, since it's sponsored by the MWR at Ft. Bragg. That DZ has the largest landing area. There's a King Air and a Cessna. Carolina Sky Sports is about a hour and a half from Ft. Bragg (just north of Raleigh). They've usually got a CASA and a Super Otter flying but I think they do the Tandem Progression method. Lastly there's Costal Carolinas which is about 2 hours from Bragg. They fly a Cessna. But it is near the beach and once you get your C license you can do beach jumps. Hope this helps. Why you should freefly with good equipment
koz2000 replied to koz2000's topic in Safety and Training
As far as why the DZ was renting "crappy" gear - It was a club that rented the gear, not the DZ ( I guess I should have made that clear in my original post). This post was not intended to point fingers at dz's, s&ta's, dzo, clubs, instructors, etc.. It was simply a good photo evidence of what can happen. EVERY Dz that I have been to, I have seen people freeflying (or attempting to freefly) with gear comparable to what this guy was using. As Bill posted many rigs are ok for RW but not safe for freeflying. Like I said earlier, he had made seven or eight jumps before this happened. If it was "unsafe as to incur legal action," he would have had the ad on the first jump. I jumped a pull-out for most of my jumps, since I didn't like any BOC, until I got a micron with the spandura. I did a week of training with a skydiving team that has the largest budget, the most comprehensive rigging section, and probably the newest rigs; and a jumper had an AD in exactly the same situation. The problem is they were used to rw and demo's not freeflying. Almost everyone on the team has over 3000 jumps and upwards of 15000 jumps. But they nor their rigging section changed the boc. I just want everyone to be able to crack open a beer at the end of the day, and talk about the good day of jumping, NOT to be sitting in a hospital room. Hey Ron, I agree many of the problems are with individual units, but my point was just showing the Cypres has had issues as well. I commend you for critizing the Cypres2 as everyone else seemed to say " oh it's a cypres, it's a good thing.." At least you stay true to the two year rule. I feel as if the post I responded to had many individual unit issues as well and I want people to see that Vigil's not the only one. Hope the weather isn;t too bad in FL, ooh it's clearing here. Why you should freefly with good equipment
koz2000 replied to koz2000's topic in Safety and Training
Hey guys, A guy visiting our DZ rented a student rig and decided to do some sit-flying, even though the gear was not freefly friendly at all. First seven or eight jumps he had no problem, however one jump we saw a cutaway and a reserve out at about 7k'. When he landed his shoe and sock were missing and his ankle had swollen quite a bit. His PC had come out (due to the worn spandex) and his main had deployed between his legs. It ripped several attachment points on his main canopy and actually had some damage to the harness. The ER said it was just some soft tissue damage. A few days later this is what his foot looked like. (see pics attached) Bottom line, please people use good equipment to freefly in, even if it has been ok for a few jumps. . He has third degree burns on the inside of his foot from the friction of the bridle and lines. He's already had three surgeries, and will probably have more. This guy was LUCKY These photos are pretty gross. Please don't be eating. D. ______________________________________________ - Does this small canopy make my balls look big? - J. Hayes - -
FACT: the Cypres has had many of the same issues. 1. My brother had an original Cypres fire on the ground after taking a dip in a swoop pond. Cypres said "you shouldn't have gotten it wet." No further investigation. 2. Many Cypres2's control units didn't work, and did not show a display so you didn't know if it was on or off. If the display in the control unit doesn't work how do you know if is going to work. We had an example of this at our dz. 3. The Master rigger on our dz had a unit that instead of counting down from 9999' to 0 it did the opposite. Airtec said don't worry it will be ok. It had to go back to Germany. No further investigation. 4. As I posted earlier, I sold a Cypres2 that would not turn on, I was sent a new unit for my customer. No further investigation. 5. Remember the "silver sleeve?" Wasn't that due to the same static problem that vigil encountered? So two of the five problems are with the second generation cypres. but you don't hear anyone saying shit (except Ron) about the cypres2. Many of these problems could have been life threatening I'm not saying that the Vigil hasn't had some problems, but so has every other aad manufacturer. A dark dry place (a closet) and unpacked. If you've got a gear bag that would be fine. ______________________________________________ - Does this small canopy make my balls look big? - J. Hayes -

I have a HC-40 and I got the TRV-19/22/33 style box for my camera. At first I just used extra foam to fill the extra space for the width, but after a couple weeks, I cut the box in half taking 11mm out of it. I did some carbon fiber work to put it back together and now the camera fits like the box was made for it. IMO, I don;t like L-brackets or anything that allows the camera to be exposed to riser slaps, kicks, head butts, etc.. Also you'd only have the velcro straps holding the camera in place . You might want to call Linda and see if they have a box planned for the HC series since they've just put out the box for the PC-109. ______________________________________________ - Does this small canopy make my balls look big? - J. Another place you can design your rig is on Infinity's web site [ url "http://s90422833.onlinehome.us/color3.htm" ] Color program You'll need flash. Does the Ranch Pro Shop not carry them? If they do, go there since that's your home DZ gear store. The majority of rigs I have gotten from Velocity have been anywhere from 5-8 weeks. That's a lot better than some companies 18-22 weeks. ______________________________________________ - Does this small canopy make my balls look big? - J. Hayes -

I don't think you're being a smart-ass at all. The tunnel is definitely better in CA and FL, just like the one soon to be in AZ. They have a TON of power and room. One reason people go there is because the tunnel is better (4-way, freeflying, etc...) BUT for just trying to get flying straight the TX one will work. Also you've got some of the best instruction at the tunnel in CA and FL. It's cool going to the tunnel (FL) and seeing Airspeed do a camp. The reason I suggested the TX one is because the money issue. If you've got plenty of cash, by all means go to the camp in CA, but if you've got limited funds, buy the rig, and if you've got a little spare change, get into the one in TX until you can afford to get to CA/FL/AZ. If I'm ever at Spaceland again, we'll make a jump, I good at dodging people Blue ones, Dave . ______________________________________________ - Does this small canopy make my balls look big? - J. But it should allow you to fly on your belly right? The Perris, Orlando, and the tunnels in construction produce winds up to 160mph, thats powerful, if one will produce 120mph you should be good. Definitely Spaceland. I had a great experience when I visited in June. Blue ones D. ______________________________________________ - Does this small canopy make my balls look big? - J. Hayes -

I'm also an Icarus Dealer, but if the company isn't delivering canopies (or takes a REALLY long time), what's the point of contacting a dealer. Yes I know that Simon has a vested interest in Icarus, but as far as I know he's not working for Icarus US. I have always heard good things about him, and had good dealings with him as well. The question is who owns Icarus, and who at the company should he get in touch with. D . ______________________________________________ - Does this small canopy make my balls look big? - J. Hayes -

ROADTRIP!!! Isn't there an outdoor wind tunnel in TX? Or was that just for a boogie? ______________________________________________ - Does this small canopy make my balls look big? - J. Hayes -

However, if you do 30min, that about doubling the amount of FF time you currently, so you'll be twice as good. Also you'll immediately know if you're not flying down the tube (otherwise you'll be bouncing off the walls..) I have took a guy on Cat C to the tunnel with me and it was amazing how quickly he started flying very well, now if he could only figure out how to land.... Get the rig, if possible, get even 10min in the tunnel, you'll be amazed blue ones. d . ______________________________________________ - Does this small canopy make my balls look big? - J. Hayes -

This has been discussed before [ url "http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=1145732;search_string=what%27s%20up%20with%20Icarus;#1145732" ] What's Up with Icarus I also had a problem getting in touch with them. Call Skydive San Diego, and try to get in touch with Wyatt. Or e-mail him at the Icarus Evolution. It's not Icarus Europe or NZ, it's somewhat limited to Icarus Canopies US. Or you could just buy another brand... . ______________________________________________ - Does this small canopy make my balls look big? - J. Hayes -

It is off with a neptune in the same location (as an audible) or with someone who wears it as a wrist/ harness mount? In my experience, there will be a big difference between the locations, even with the protrack. Also make sure that you've got the latest updates v2.1.5 D . ______________________________________________ - Does this small canopy make my balls look big? - J. Hayes -

Where can I get custom Logbooks?
koz2000 replied to bogwarrior's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Try the guys at Skydiving Magazine They print logs as well. . ______________________________________________ - Does this small canopy make my balls look big? - J. Hayes - -
I got the opportunity to jump the Blade at the CSS Easter boogie. Beezy had several demos and I made jumps on a 98 and 108. My exit weight was approx 225lbs. The openings- long long snivel, great if you've got a camera. It does not wander or search for a heading. The toggles give quick turns. The risers have very light pressure and long diving turns are quite easy. The rears easily leveled the canopy, however I didn't feel I could stay on them as long as a x-braced canopy, but transition to the toggles keeps the swoop going. The material was very easy to pack, but it would be slightly bigger than comparable sizes due to "winglets" I only got to make about 10 jumps on the two sizes, but from those jumps, I would recommend that if you're in the market for a Crossfire2, Katana, etc... you should give this canopy a try.

Not at 300 jumps, Look at this post. [ url "http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=1124590;search_string=I%27m%20angry;#1124590" ] I'm angry as hell Advantages: it's a rigid wing, which will provide more lift, more performance. Most have very long dives. Many pilots start a 270 at 700-800'. Disadvantages: many of the xbraced canopies have issues with opening (tend to search, big surge, etc..) Probably the Xaos21 is the best opening. If you have vectran line sets, they usually need to be replaced between 300-500 jumps. It seems the 21cells dive faster, but don't have as much carry. (However the Velocity does have the distance record, 418ft) Most people start jumping xbraced around 700-1000 jumps. just my .02 D . ______________________________________________ - Does this small canopy make my balls look big? - J. Here's a picture of mine. The handles are easy to get to despite the mount. I'm still not saying it's for a guy with low jump numbers. Dave . ______________________________________________ - Does this small canopy make my balls look big? - J. Hayes -

BUMP.... It sounds like from Ray's post it was a cypres misfire. For someone in the know, could they post any information. It's amazingly quiet on this. ______________________________________________ - Does this small canopy make my balls look big? - J. Hayes -
