I left on Friday to go to Auburn. Went to the game on Saturday. We kicked butt! Auburn is seriously looking sharp! We just need for one of the top 3 to screw up. Got nowhere to go right now. Sucks! We'll most likely be in the SEC Championship game this year, though. It's turning out to be a VERY good season. We drank much beer, played music really loud, and danced on tables at the tailgate party. It was a LARGE time! WAR DAMN EAGLE!!!

Not if you're a good enough shot.

Is that what stops you from being a killer? The ban on assault weapons isn't what would stop me. Just because my weapon doesn't have a pistol grip stock or a bayonette lug doesn't mean it won't shoot just as far and fast as that "assault weapon" banned up there in Canada.

I’m male. First, there are times when killing, not murder, is justified. Aside from that, however, and generally speaking, I’d say “mercy, social philosophy, moral conscience”, and religious influence would stop me primarily. Secondly, would be the “fear of legal consequences of the crime.”

Who should the U.S. REALLY be worried about?

France & Germany. The axis of assholes... -
Well, you're German and don't get to vote here for the US President so it's kind of mute.

I’ll agree with you that they need to be held to the same standard and the quotes from the Qur’an weren’t put into context. However, in reference to the question, I’d point back to this to establish difference between the god of Islam and the God of Christianity.

Certainly medical ethics is regulated and should be! Some medical ethics issues are not necessarily meant to be kept private between doctors and patients. Otherwise, any physician could make up their own rules and perform whatever they wanted to. No restrictions. They could try out anything that came to mind because they can and not necessarily because they should. You don’t think decisions by our leadership in Congress concerning medical ethics are based on the scientific research and opinions of medical experts in the field? Do you think this one in particular is completely based on religious bias? This one is pretty common sense. Did you see the diagrams that I posted? You and I aren’t experts but what would be your best guess as to how killing the baby prior to delivering its head would medically benefit the mother in any way? At that point, why would it matter if the baby was alive or dead? Why would you have to kill it other than for reasons of convenience so that no one would have to take care of it?

These are the threatened forces of judgment for covenant unfaithfulness. God doesn’t want anyone to perish but there are consequences for one’s actions or the actions of a people. The judgments are more violently and morbidly expressed in the Old Testament but the consequences are the same today. In the end, all will be held accountable. That doesn’t mean that God doesn’t love you. However, again, there is justice in the world and rightly so. It is a graphic illustration of “hell on earth.” It represents the extreme consequences for our continual disobedience. It is the “last ditch” effort of God to reconcile with man. Although God’s patience is great, it is the “final straw” or attempt at securing your salvation. Although, the quoted verse is extreme in its description, it also demonstrates the enormity of God’s love for us that he would even extend his love and patience for us till the end. None of this takes away from the love and mercy God has expressed for all people. There is justice, however, in the world and consequences for our actions. God’s expects for us to learn and develop. Although his love for us is eternal, his patience in the matter of redemption is not without limits.

"Iraq is lost" - Wall Street Journal Reporter Farnaz Fassihi

The vast majority of the military are for the President and his policies. They are loyal to him and believe in the cause. That book you referenced doesn't reflect the opinion of most. -
I agree that there used to be the same common deity with regards to the peoples that now comprise the two different religions. You’re correct in that God is eternal and unchanging. Men, however, do change. It is from the people’s or worshiper’s perspective that I’m talking. If Mohammed is a false prophet, then his “core” teachings are misleading and are against what the true God intended (I’m not saying that all is bad in the teachings of Islam). If both religions once worshiped the same deity but one lost focus of who God really is to the point that the very nature of God in their perception of him has changed, then are they at that point really worshiping the same God or do they just think they are? I say they’re not.

Wars and battles are never won by people with defeatist attitudes. If you've already given up on the inside, everything else is a futile effort. You're done. I'm grateful that our current leadership and military don't share these views. I believe wholeheartedly in The United States of America's ability to prevail and succeed. -
Loses which vote? The popular vote or the REAL vote? If he lost the real vote, he lost, if he lost the popular vote, it doesn't matter since that's now how a president is elected in this country. Same story for Kerry as well. If the electorial types vote Kerry in, then so be it, I won't be someone bitching and moaning about the popular vote, since it truely doesn't matter (although yes the EC traditionally votes with the popular vote from their state, they don't really have to). Reality is just a real bitch, isn't it? Good post!

GWB’s confident answers showed competence in his job and foresight. I was VERY impressed with the President’s performance last night. I thought it was the best of his debates. I think he came across as well prepared, factually knowledgeable, determined, compassionate, honest, and “most improved” of the two. There was drastic improvement between the 1st & 2nd debates for GWB. I think Kerry won the first but tied the second. The 3rd, however, was commanded by Bush. I was surprised given the domestic issue focus. I honestly think this will move him further ahead in the polls and win the votes of undecided voters. I still think this election will be close, however, on Election Day, I don’t think it will be as close as some are suggesting. Certainly not as close as the one in 2000.

Republican? Democrat? *That* Much of a Difference?

It's funny to hear comments about the size of GWB's head given the size of John Kerry's elongated skinny melon. -
Republican? Democrat? *That* Much of a Difference?
pajarito replied to PalletMan's topic in Speakers Corner
The "same tie" thing was probably done on purpose by the Kerry campaign to make them look similar. To make Kerry look more Presidential. Not on his own merit but in comparison. To make the statement, "See...I look like the President so, therefore, I can be one." -
Partial Birth Abortion Procedure Diagrams (not actual pictures): - Guided by ultrasound, the physician grabs the baby’s leg with forceps. - The baby’s leg is pulled out into the birth canal. - The physician delivers the baby’s entire body, except for the head. - They physician then jams scissors into the baby’s skull. - The scissors are then opened to enlarge the hole. - The scissors are removed and a suction catheter is inserted. - The Child’s brains are sucked out, causing the skull to collapse. - The dead baby is then removed. Again, there is NO MEDICAL REASON WHY “PARTIAL BIRTH ABORTION” IS NECESSARY. This is not the same thing as a D&E procedure in reference to when it is done. This is why there was a vote to ban the practice and it was passed pro-life and pro-choice Democrats and Republicans. JOHN KERRY VOTED AGAINST THE BAN ON PARTIAL BIRTH ABORTIONS!!!

Ok, I buy that both peoples were at one time the same and worshiped the same God. However, that has not been the case for over 800 years. I would argue that it’s not just the prophets or “entities that make up that God” where they now differ. I would say the very nature of the God they worship is not the same as the one of Christianity. If one is true, then the other must be false. The following illustrates my point. God / Allah Compare and contrast God & Allah Qur'an (Islam): "Whoever is an enemy to Allah and His angels and messengers, to Gabriel and Michael,- Lo! Allah is an enemy to those who reject Faith," (2:98, Trans. Yusuf Ali) "Say: Obey Allah and the Messenger; but if they turn back, then surely Allah does not love the unbelievers," 3:32, Trans. Shakir). Bible (Christianity): "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have eternal life," (John 3:16). "You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor, and hate your enemy.’ 44 "But I say to you, love your enemies, and pray for those who persecute you 45 in order that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven; for He causes His sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. 46 "For if you love those who love you, what reward have you? Do not even the tax-gatherers do the same? 47 "And if you greet your brothers only, what do you do more than others? Do not even the Gentiles do the same? 48 "Therefore you are to be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect. (Matt. 5:43-48).

George, the question was about jobs, not education.
pajarito replied to lewmonst's topic in Speakers Corner
As the President or any senior administrator, one must be able to see the big picture. In answer to the question about jobs, education is a very big part of that big picture. That is if one is considering progress and looking to the future. His answers showed competence in his job and foresight. I was VERY impressed with the President’s performance tonight. I thought it was the best of his debates. I think he came across as well prepared, factually knowledgeable, compassionate, honest, and most improved. I honestly think this will move him further ahead in the polls and win the votes of undecided voters. I don’t think you’re fully understanding what “partial birth” abortion is although it’s been described rather graphically. It will not put the mother at any more risk to deliver a dead or live baby. The only reason to perform this procedure is to ensure that the baby is dead prior to delivery. If the baby is most likely going to die anyway from some condition, there is still no reason to perform this procedure. Medical ethics involves us all. It’s not always just between a particular patient and his/her physician. Just because you can do something doesn’t necessarily always mean that you should.
-
D&E’s are still done as a means of abortion today. This is actually one of the ways that 2nd trimester abortions are done. They are not done only on dead fetuses and are not banned. Again, “partial birth” abortions involve the partial delivery, except for the head, of a live wiggling baby. Only then is the procedure performed. That is what the ban refers to. You really wouldn’t even need to perform this procedure for delivery of a dead fetus. As a medical doctor in the OB/GYN field, my wife would be the expert opinion to determine whether a procedure like this would be viable or not. You bring no expert medical opinion or facts to your arguments. She tells me that she can’t think of a single reason why it would ever be necessary. Not that she agrees with them, but there are plenty of other methods to accomplish this goal without performing partial birth abortion. The only reason for a partial birth abortion is to ensure that a fetus is dead prior to full delivery (i.e. convenience). There are other methods to accomplish this at an earlier stage. There is no medical reason why a procedure as obviously cruel as partial birth abortion should be allowed. Again, not that I agree with the other methods but, there are other alternatives earlier in the pregnancy to accomplish this goal.

Look at yourself in the mirror and, whatever you do, DON'T......LAUGH! DON'T EVEN SMILE!!! Have a good day!

Have you ever seen the movie "Starship Troopers?" Did you see the scene where the regular bug brought the two humans to the "smart bug" in the cave? The smart bug then took his catheter style spear appendage and stabbed the guy in the top of the head to suck his brains out? That's what partial birth abortion does except to an infant.
-
I agree. This procedure is vile. However, my point in all that was to point out John Kerry's stance on the matter. I'm not saying that the issue of partial birth abortion should be the key focus for determining who to vote for next month. I'm just saying that it illustrates a continuing trend on his part and should be seriously considered on that merit.

First of all, if the fetus is already dead then it is not an abortion. I do procedures all the time on women who have a missed abortion. That is not what we are talking about. It is not unusual for women to develop complications in the third trimester. However, she is not at any greater risk from delivery of a live infant than from a partial birth abortion. Why do you have to kill the infant to remove it? I have had to deliver infants prior to viability knowing that they would most likely not make it for the health of the mother. However, delivering that child alive did not put her at any more increased risk than what you are proposing. In a partial birth abortion, you still have to deliver the infant to a point so that the head is against the cervix so that you can then crush the skull and remove the contents. Either way, she still has to undergo a partial delivery, hence the name “partial birth” abortion. I disagree with your statement. I have done these procedures (D&E-dilatation and extraction procedure) on people who have had a missed abortion (dead baby) in the second trimester. These are not usually done in the fifth or sixth month as they get more dangerous the further along you are. They are usually done around 12-16 weeks give or take a little. These procedures usually cause quite a bit of bleeding. That is why most people that I know then deliver them by prostin or cytotec induction. Either way, it does not usually work as smoothly as you describe. In a D&E, you often remove the dead fetus in multiple parts that must then be re-approximated to make sure you have removed all the parts. Ever wonder why an abortion is so cheap in the first trimester, but markedly more expensive as the baby gets bigger? ($300-$500 in 1st trimester but several thousand in the 2nd trimester). Again, this is not the same as a partial birth abortion. That is not true at all. We still do D&X procedures all the time. Like I described before, sometimes parts get missed and the patient will pass parts of the fetus later (should never happen but it does). I gave it a full day waiting on some responses but none came. Seriously... No more attempts at justifying partial birth abortion? No more reasons why the ban on partial birth abortion should not have been supported? Because, John Kerry voted against the ban. Is there a reason for this? What does this say about him?
