    He couldn't have done enough to make up for the lives he took in cold blood. That crime is, in a human sense, unforgivable. That is, unless you can somehow speak with those he murdered and they decide that they now forgive him. His actions since may be admirable, however, he's still a murderer and that crime does not go away no matter how many good works you do. His possible redemption and forgiveness is now between him and his maker.

    Never once said that Christians didn't commit attrocities during the Crusades. They did. So did the Muslims. Just refuted the notion that the Christians just suddenly came up with it in the name of conquest and conversions.

    I'll just pick one part of your rant. The Crusades were not "authored" by Christians. They began in defense against Islamic agression. What they did with it is another story but they did not start it.

    Does that sentence really make sense to you? I think it's great that we are immediately shooting people we perceive as threats because there's a good chance they are an actual threat. That's what I hope they've always been getting paid to do (e.g. "their job").

    There didn't have to be an actual bomb for there to have been a threat 1. An expression of an intention to inflict pain, injury, evil, or punishment. 2. An indication of impending danger or harm. 3. One that is regarded as a possible danger; a menace.

    That all depends on the type of threat. If some guy claims to have a bomb on a plane (very different and more serious situation), how are you to know what kind it is or what type of activation device you're dealing with? How would you make a decision whether to wound or kill? I'll tell you right now, if I had a question in my mind or was unclear, that guy's not going to recover. Too many lives are at stake.

    Not at all. That Fed Agent should be taken out to dinner, bought a beer, and given an award for his actions today. He did his job. It tells me that the threat will be taken seriously in the future.

    You're damn right! I doubt seriously whether some of these "idiot defenders" ("idiot" referring to the guy who made the threat on the plane; "defenders" being some of the posters here) have been in a life or death situation where your point would be proven.
