  1. How true. I load a Velo at 2:1 and still make myself an observer in most winds above 20mph. Breaking hurts, and fixing is expensive. I can always drink beer. I tell younger jumpers if you see us all out front with lawn chairs and cameras you should probably reconsider jumping.
  2. Quit talking with all that book lurning. I want my meds. Make me feels better doc.
  3. Improper handling. Loaded weapons. *shakes head* ...off to SC we go.
  4. I would not like to see that. Most amusing comment of all. You never know who is reading here.
  5. My camera jacket has a lens wipe sewn in. Otherwise I use my fingers to wipe goggles in the plane. Other cleaning I do on the ground.
  6. So if you fracture an ankle (a very common injury) and it needs to be surgically repaired (as is often the case), you'll pay the +/- $30,000 in medical bills out of your own pocket? Yep, you got it. Really? You'd rather risk that - and you guarantee us (and the hospital the meat wagon would haul you off to) that you'd pay it yourself - rather than pay a few hundred dollars a month on health insurance? I must have the word "idiot" written on my forehead. I better go wash it off. No, I wouldn't guarantee you or the healthcare facility anything, as I am not obligated to by law (like you must with auto insurance) Nor did I say I would. So let's say I tell you that you have to go to work tomorrow, but I'm not guaranteeing that you are gonna get paid for it....would you still go? Doctors/nurses/hospitals do this everyday. That's ok, most of yours is idiotic.
  7. Haha, even ESPN plugged the 200 jump recommendation. Made me chuckle that they threw that in their for the at home crowd.
  8. Very true. But people rarely confuse life insurance with anything else. There's a lot of confusion about the differences between health and disability insuance - True that. My health insurance covers me for anything, but I am carrying a high deductible since I am healthy. - My short term work DI covers me, but only returns about 30-40% of my pretax income. - After 90 days my long term DI kicks in to keep that up - I have supplemental DI through NW Mutual - that replaces another 35-45% of my pretax income - however, the rider on that policy will only cover DI benefits from the first 24 months after initiation due to skydiving accidents. Restrictive, but a fair trade from an insurance standpoint. - My life insurance covers me for skydiving accidents, however, it tripled my premiums when the rider for jumping was attached to it. /I'm only 29, so I don't have much usage for it now, however my contract states I don't have to have another medical exam until turn 60, so I can develop diabetes and terminal cancer tomorrow and convert it to whole life with no questions asked. //Make sure you know the differences between your policies, so you aren't hung out to dry in the case something goes wrong.
  9. Base is the person that that last diver gets to scare the fuck out of on his way down to the formation going Mach 2 with his hair on fire.
  10. You seem like a smart guy/girl, just a quick reminder - it may not be prudent to go right back to the canopy you were on then. Be careful, start big, don;t get hurt, and welcome back
  11. In my personal opinion it is ludicrous to jump in a sport where severe sprains and broken ankles are relatively common, and more severe injuries are easily possible. From a social responsibility point it is piss poor to bust yourself up and expect the rest of us to care for you and foot your bill, just because you are too irresponsible to get health insurance. /catastrophic health insurance really is NOT that much, and any break requiring surgery and pins will usually eclipse that, and let's not get into ICU stays... //If you can't afford minimal health insurance to take care of yourself in an emergency, then from a fiscal responsibility standpoint, should you really be skydiving, where even a "simple" injury by our standards could leave you unable to work for weeks? ///I am not directing this mini-rant at any one person, or anyone in this thread. Just posing an opinion to be considered by the masses. http://consumerist.com/2007/04/snl-skit-dont-buy-stuff-you-cant-afford.html
  12. So, you are suggesting we do nothing to prevent more people dying so they can continue to be used for a lesson that we already know that's written in blood? I am all for social darwinism but that's a little fucked.
  13. You mean when you're about to fuck? Or at the dinner table?
  14. Dude, you will never get laid by any of the women that just read that! HAHA you havent seen a major event played yet, have you? haha. i dont play that backwoods redneck crap, im talking about the big leagues, haha. Wow, I bet you have Mad Skilz. If he's playing in the pro leagues, you may as well be a student telling airspeed all they are doing is holding hands. Don't be so narrow minded.
  15. Agreed 100%. Hope you didn't think I was arguing with you
  16. Every time I fly camera for a group, in my path to the step, I usually have a second or two to look down and check the spot, and always make it a point to do so for the teams that I fly for. Unless it's Load 1 and winds are drastically different than expected, I consider a bad spot for the 4 way team to be my fault. But that's just me.
  17. I repeated D1 4 damned times. Kept spinning and spinning and spinning....... People are right, the tunnels are a great tool. However, if you can't immediately get down to one, try this -- One thing that I found was helpful for me during that time was to go home and lay on the floor in front of my couch and adjust myself until my feet could rest on the edge of the couch keeping my lower legs at about a 45 degree angle. It gave me some "positive pressure" on my legs, as well as being able to retain longer muscle memory of having my legs equal and even from hips to toes. Hope it helps. Skybytch is correct though. There is NOTHING natural about this sport to our bodies, and we have to learn it a minute at a time in the air. Relax. You'll get it soon enough.
  18. Or, with a little reading comprehension. you may figure out that she is asking for a jump ticket for her time to come out and let the coach candidates teach it to her or someone else. Would not be an unreasonable request for services rendered. I don't immediately jump to "pay me a jump ticket and I will sign your reqs off without you actually doing them", but that is just me. You seem to know something different.
  19. If you haven't seen it, go. One of the few movies recently that I actually enjoyed.
  20. Btw, in case anyone was wondering, it fucking sucks....even when it is someone that you don't know.
  21. Nice place. Made a few jumps there. 182 if I remember right. AMAZING view.
