  1. Thanks guys. I got a room at Sleep Inn. $70/night. Happy with that as long as it does not suck.
  2. Does anyone here actually own a copy of the book?
  3. Just went IAD-SRQ - swabbed in the line in Dulles and selected for additional patdown at the gate. No hassles.
  4. Uhm... Why did i cover more distance after driving for an hour vs 30 minutes? Could it be that it's because I spent more time traveling? :) You can travel through time?
  5. Or, since you are paying for the time, YOU dictate what you are gonna do in the tunnel. Get some 1-on-1 coach time and make them turn the tunnel down and work on falling slower.
  6. I personally will never do that again! I had a PCIT that I contribute to holding onto my pilot chute a few seconds after I extracted it....Once it comes out and I extend my arm, I have committed and it goes bye bye! I don't think they meant pull it and hold it, cause that would be fucking stupid. I think this is more of a "reach and touch it, then wait as long as you safely can before you toss it."
  7. One of the funniest white men I ever had the pleasure of knowing.
  8. What is the best hotel to stay in near the DZ? Any that offer jumper rates? Thanks a lot for the info.
  9. Did he notify you in writing? If so its legal and binding! Haha, that contract is in the mail. He called me to congratulate me. I'll believe it when I see it
  10. ...your boss notifies you that you are getting a raise on April fool's Day?
  11. I don't feel anything like a ground rush. When I do I don't consider it to me a good thing. Over the course of the last 3-400 jumps, I have developed a certain feel for the way things look as I am at different stages of my turn. I can see the difference in the initiation, back side of my turn, and my roll out if I am too high or too low and adjust accordingly. The problem people run into is rushing the process and not developing this sight picture over time, and not realizing early enough that you are low to have time to fix it. So, no ground rush here and I don't consider it to be a good thing. /This is my first year venturing into competitive canopy flight. I'm sure there are others out there that can explain this better.
  12. well you apparently never went to that DZ, and never recieved their safety briefing. IIRC it stipulates "NO SPIRALING". No Spiraling? At All? You've got to be kidding. Why is that idea so appalling?
  13. Wendy, I know I am not an authority in the matter by any means, but if you look at the actual swoopers out there when compared to the guys just "swooping" at the DZ, you will find that they are the most disciplined canopy pilots out there, and they put quite a bit of time and energy into planning a pattern prior to each jump for a proper setup. However, I do understand the idea behind your post. I just feel that you are giving HP guys a bad rap, when a proper pattern is essential to being where you wanna be, when you wanna be there, to get your ideal swoop.
  14. I mean yeah, if you know you didn't seat the slider, and the canopy blew up, then yeah, feel bad. /Always stow my brakes, uncollapse my slider, and cock my pilot chute. Saves me some peace of mind, and prevents a lot of problems.
  15. What the hell is with all the "you should pay for damages" shit I am seeing here? What a crock of shit. As long as you packed it well, and didn't take shortcuts, then don't lose any sleep over it. Shit happens when you throw nylon out into the wind. Spinning linetwists on a 170 loaded under 1:1? You can give her this advice as a tip if you feel bad - Kick like you mean it and don't pull so fucking low. And as always, learn to pull stable.
  16. I have a speed cypres2 installed right now. I've hit over normal aad firing speeds in a dive at altitude, bit cannot yet get near the 96mph needed to fire the Speed version, without multiple rotations. Currently I only do a 270 on final, so I'm not broaching during speed in my turn. AAD's are mandatory @ my dz, but may be waved under certain HP canopy piloting circumstances. Overall, I feel they are a pretty cheap "semi-life insurance" policy, but I'm not hesitant to jump without one.
  17. Screw $20. $100 if you get a side spin going.

  19. God, Tom, for your sake, I hope this is sarcasm. If not.....
  20. Hmmm...I wouldn't go that far... Yes yes, come now. Look cool first, camera awareness second, safety third.
  21. That's gonna be a deciding factor. TBH, you aren't gonna go wrong at Orange, West Point, or Suffolk. All three are great DZs, and each have their own vibe. Visit each one and see how you feel about them. I jump at Orange, but would happily show up at WP or Suffolk any day.
  22. Not bold. Just a summary of my experience. Noting delivery attempts when no one came by the house, returning a package I sent to another jumper after never attempting delivery to the jumper, then refusing to refund my charges for delivery. Losing shit. Overall poor customer service and incompetence. The DHL comment is anecdotal from multiple reports of problems. No personal experience there. FedEx has been on the money, all the time. Simpe really.
  23. Call Spaceland - Have them call UPS, tell them it was delivered wrong.
