  1. http://www.merriam-webster.com/netdict/gloat Reading comprehension is your friend. There is no satisfaction. When/if you break/kill yourself on landing-your name will go in that thread, beside tcnelson, as another TBTB that was proven otherwise, to the delight of absolutely no one. It will be one more piece of evidence for those that try to warn-for those that have seen people better than you or me smear ourselves on the ground, for when they look at the next new guy and say "we told them so...they didn't listen. Please, don't do the same." If that's gloating/enjoyable then you and I have different views of a good time.
  2. You are mistaking everyone calling you dumb for your canopy choice for gloating. No one will gloat if you go and hook yourself in. There's not a club of people secretly waiting to point and laugh. If someone with 1500 jumps goes from a spectre 150 for the last 1000 jumps to a katana 107/velo 103 then yeah, people will call them silly and hopefully try to make them see the error of their ways. Most people at that many jumps though know better than to make that jump. If a jumper with 1000s of jumps hooks it in because of pushing a tight spot, swooping in traffic, then they should have known better. If said 3000 jump wonder drops a toggle on landing- well, that's a reminder the reaper is around every corner. No one gets any pleasure out of dissecting an accident. No one laughs while standing over a dead friend's body while reminding everyone how stupid he/she was.
  3. I remember when I first transferred into the high performance realm. I underwent a fairly rapid downsize through several demos and onto a x-brace. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. However, 12-18 months of nothing but hop and pops and canopy training got me to my competition goal. One of the biggest challenges I found re-integrating myself into regular jumping under a HP canopy is just how much faster we fly than normal parachutes. I fondly remember discussing it with Germain one day and his response was "that's why we have these wonderful things called brakes, to slow it all down." Sure, johnny newguy can fly his pattern under his new pocket rocket on a few hop and pops, but then can be easily surprised when there are other faster/slower moving targets headed to the same place. They would be wise to take heed to the experienced HP pilots flying their patterns-and they will notice the canopies being flown in half+ brakes, to slow down, give more time to think and evaluate the 3D puzzle unfolding in front of and behind them. I really don't know my point here, other than the incompatibility of HP canopies in normal traffic without the developed experience of how to make them all fly together nicely.
  4. Well, I for one love how everyone hates on Shah for this. I dated a size 10-12 in college and my current gf is a 4-6. I can definitely say I enjoy this version much better. Could also be the lack of crazy in comparison, but the overall, to me, she is much more asthetically pleasing. Looks better on video/stills too...
  5. QuoteHey thanks dont think you will ever get that 60 seconds back that it it took to put down those pearls Quote[/reply Regardless....it's a valid point. I'm not sure how this is a valid question.
  6. I had the chance to drive one from atl and around the farm....they're roomy....and that's where any good quality stops.
  7. A few : 3 : none. Good weekend with my lady. Then back up to make a few loads on a record load day for us. 2 hops and pops. 1 excellent night swoop. Definitely a whole different animal, second time doing them. Each one feels like my first jump over again. Just makes me all tingly.
  8. Father has worked for the railroad for 30+ years. Never, EVER, walk out onto a rail bridge.
  9. It's a last ditch last second thing designed to be just high enough to save your life but low enough not to screw with any routine skydiving operations. Getting into that realm, you're three seconds from impact. Not a lot of room to screw around with. Also, any hesitation on the reserve extraction can mean your bad day just became your last day. However, I still subscribe that there are only two valid reasons for me to ever have an AAD fire : Unconscious or dead. Everything else, well, it's my fault that I have no handled the situation before then.
  10. friggin rocks. That is all.
  11. You'd be hard pressed to find a better gear store, rigging loft out there.
  12. I went hoping for something entertaining. I got complete garbage. Not even worth renting when it comes out. Basically Blair Witch all over again.
  13. Velocity - for its relaxing openings, flat glide, and gentle landings.
  14. That's the weird part. The other one I have I can use perfectly, and could from day 1. These two are tight as hell, and I can only activate it with my teeth instead. deja vu... my first one has teeth marks on it. I was pointing it down a little in my mouth & using my lower teeth to activate it for a while Aight, I'll play with it then. Thanks a bunch!

  17. Ok, so having a little issue here, and wanna see if anyone else has had this happen before I call Conceptus. I had a Conceptus tongue switch that I spliced into a Nikon MC-DC2 remote release. Works the camera perfectly. However, it is too long at the camera to fit correctly into my RRS L-bracket. I buy 2 new 2.5mm tongue switches to go with a new right angle Nikon-to-2.5mm plug I bought. However, the pressure on the tongue switch, both of them actually, is too much for me to actually push in with my tongue. I am still waiting for the connector to come in, so I can't test it yet. Any way to fix this? Or do I just need to give them a call? The pressure between the one I spliced and the new ones is way too much.
  18. Is it sad that all I could think about during the whole video is the shitty autofocus that the camera guy was using?
  19. Your first landing will tell the real tale. Don't you mean first "controlled crash-ass slide-cloud of dust-stand up quickly and hide the pain" landing? You've never seen a zone acc round have you?
  20. Your first landing will tell the real tale.
  21. The other think to remember is: Swoop shorts + not a swooper == poser == decrease in coolness factor.
