Happy Birthday Sherie! xx ~~~ London Skydivers ~~~

Gav, (hello by the way, didn't know you were on dz.com!) Nigel has started a thread in the Bonfire about this but I don't think there is too much info about it at the moment. ~~~ London Skydivers ~~~

in that case it must be true!! actually, it depends on how old you are what you might have learnt, 50 years ago the Thames was declared biologically dead, but now after some huge conservation efforts it is remarkably healthy, and the river "now ranks among the cleanest metropolitan tideways in the world" according to the national geographic. http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2005/04/0421_050422_riverthames.html ~~~ London Skydivers ~~~

talking about different licences, I have my BPA (UK) A, B and C licences so are they valid if I wanted to jump in the US? As you don't need to have any water jumps over here as a requirement for a B, would I be expected to do a water jump if I wanted to jump in the US with my BPA C licence? Maybe this should be in a different thread, sorry! ~~~ London Skydivers ~~~

I am thankful I live in a country where this is possible

Poor parable - the worker ants are FEMALE, and you forgot the Monster Raving Looney Party. yeah, I thought the 'withering heat' was pushing it somewhat as well! hehe ~~~ London Skydivers ~~~ -

long but pretty true (apologies if its been seen before but I thought it was quite appropriate): ... CLASSIC VERSION: The ant works hard in the withering heat all summer long, building his house and laying up supplies for the winter. The grasshopper thinks he's a fool, and laughs and dances and plays the summer away. Come winter, the Ant is warm and well fed, the shivering grasshopper has no food or shelter, so he dies out in the cold. THE END THE BRITISH VERSION: The ant works hard in the withering heat all summer long, building his house and laying up supplies for the winter. The grasshopper thinks he's a fool, and laughs and dances and plays the summer away. Come winter, the ant is warm and well fed. So far, so good, eh? The shivering grasshopper calls a press conference and demands to know Why the ant should be allowed to be warm and well fed while others less fortunate, like him, are cold and starving. The BBC shows up to provide live coverage of the shivering grasshopper, with cuts to a video of the ant in his comfortable warm home in Hampstead with a table laden with food, the British are stunned that in a country of such wealth, this poor grasshopper is allowed to suffer so while others have plenty. The Liberal Party, the Respect Party, the Transvestites With Starving Babies Party, the Single Lesbian One Eyed Mothers Party and the Coalition Against Hard Work demonstrate in front of the ant's house. The BBC, interrupting a Rastafarian cultural festival special from Grimsby with breaking news, broadcasts them singing "We Shall Overcome." Ken Livingstone laments in an interview with Panorama that the ant has got rich off the backs of grasshoppers, and calls for an immediate tax hike on the ant to make him pay his "fair share". In response, the Labour Government drafts the Economic Equity and Grasshopper Anti-Discrimination Act, retroactive to the beginning of the summer. The ant's taxes are reassessed, and he is also fined for failing to hire grasshoppers as helpers. Without enough money to pay the fine and his newly imposed retroactive taxes, his home is confiscated by Camden Council. The ant moves to France, and starts a successful AgriBiz company [funded by the EU] - although within weeks, his business is threatened with Compulsory purchase by the state unless he marries a French ant. The BBC later shows the now fat grasshopper finishing up the last of the ant's food, though Spring is still months away, while the government house he is in, which just happens to be the ant's old house, crumbles around him because he hasn't bothered to maintain it. Inadequate government funding is blamed, Diane Abbot is appointed to head a commission of enquiry that will cost £10,000,000. The grasshopper is soon dead of a drug overdose, the Guardian blames it on the obvious failure of government to address the root causes of despair arising from social inequity. The abandoned house is taken over by a Gang of immigrant spiders, praised by the government for enriching Britain's multicultural diversity, who promptly set up a heroin/prostitution operation and terrorise the community. THE END . -
Hey Sherri, you gotten over the bunkhouse lurgi now?? Sounds like everyone who didn't get it while over there got it shortly after coming back! ~~~ London Skydivers ~~~

Well tonight is the night! I hope everyone has recovered after the AGM last weekend, lets do it again tonight! See ya there, x ~~~ London Skydivers ~~~
-
yeah I know, I saw them originally back in 02 (might even have been 01 actually) before they were really mainstream, not long after they released Origin of Symmetry at the London Arena, and they were fabulous. The place was full of goths and wearing black etc, and I looked rather out of place as I'd come straight from work and I was in a suit! And I seem to have vague recollections (after a lot of extortionately priced beer) of stripping off at Mile End tube on the way home to change from my work top into my new Muse tshirt... ah those were the days before I started jumping and I used to spend all my free cash on gigs rather than jumps and equipment! ~~~ London Skydivers ~~~
-
I've seen them live twice and they were fantastic both times, Matthew Bellamy (the lead singer) sounds as good vocally and on the piano live as he does on the albums. I actually thought they were better live than the Chili Peppers live (yes I know that is sacrilege! ). Edit: for shocking grammar! ~~~ London Skydivers ~~~

Hi all and I hope 2006 is going well so far. Just a quick reminder that Thursday night is the London Skydivers night at the Montagu Pyke from around 6ish. We have a reserved area again, which is the upstairs part on the way to the loos, but as has happened the last number of times to have the privilege of reserving an area we need to pay £10. If everyone who is planning on coming along would be prepared to donate 50p each then that would be great, as it means that one person (ie me!) isn't left to pay the whole amount! Thanks guys. We do usually get our own bar person who comes up and takes orders when we do this though, so its not all bad. For those who haven't been before, the Montagu Pyke is on Charing Cross Road, about halfway between Leicester Square tube and Tottenham Court Road tube. Anyway, I hope to see you then, or if not, the next few for your diaries are Feb 23rd, March 23rd, April 27th. Blue skies, Caz ~~~ London Skydivers ~~~

apparently supposed to get really cold though tomorrow, but not that that matters as a lot of us will be at the AGM anyway! ~~~ London Skydivers ~~~
-
mmm pizza! ok, don't forget me when you're ordering it! as I was to Sarah the other night, I would really HATE to be the hotel staff on duty on the Sunday with all the crap we leave in our rooms, the hotel must really make a fortune out of us to keep inviting us back, despite the fact that we bring our own food and drink and break all their tables! ~~~ London Skydivers ~~~

hey Franzz, We have a London skydivers social group and meet up once a month. The next evening is a week today (January 26th) so you (and anyone else for that matter) are more than welcome to come and join us. If you want to have more correspondence with other London based skydivers, join the group (by clicking on the link in my signature), there's currently 150 people who are members! Caz ~~~ London Skydivers ~~~
-
yeah I'm excited too! for those of you not going to the AGM dinner do, are you going to have the curry the hotel is putting on or are you going to eat elsewhere? I'll be there Sat morning in time for the actual AGM, so I won't be able to join in the Friday night shenanigans, but am looking forward to the Saturday night! see you then!! ~~~ London Skydivers ~~~
-
hey Regan, is there going to be a compilation dvd put together of the jumps of the day vids? if so is it going to be posted anywhere? Caz ~~~ London Skydivers ~~~
-
yeah yeah, and who sacrificed herself to help you out drinking the neat rum hey girl? And what did I get for my generosity? Covered in tequilla and a stinking hangover! all in all Empuria was fun
-
apologies for the late reminder, but tonight is the December London Skydivers drinks evening in the Montagu Pyke, Leicester Square. We don't have a reserved area this time due to a bit of a mix up, but as its likely to be a bit quieter than normal anyway due to all the Christmas festivities going on this shouldn't hopefully be too much of a problem. Anyway, see you later, Caz ~~~ London Skydivers ~~~
-
Just a reminder to everyone that tonight is the November London Skydivers drinks meet, same place as usual, the Montagu Pyke from about 6pm but this time we have an area reserved upstairs (up near the loos) ie not our usual spot downstairs. See you there later, Caz

If I recall correctly Nigel, you were one of the people who voted to stay in the MP when we actually voted! Upstairs is fine by me, I'll send an email to the group in a minute to let everyone know. Cheers for sorting Nigel. ~~~ London Skydivers ~~~

Sounds fabulous, and thanks for all the advice, but due to a lack of planning plus a couple of injuries we're all doing Empuriabrava (Spain) this year now instead. But I'll keep it all in mind for next year, and hopefully not faff around quite so much beforehand trying to make a decision... Z-Hills Xmas 2006 here I come!
-
p.s. next drinks evening is Thursday 24th November, same place as usual, the Montagu Pyke, I hope to see loads of you there. work is at the moment though so I will need a lot of to turn me from to

oh god the 'Curzon v the MP' debate AGAIN! we're going to get this thread locked soon for repetition every couple of pages! I say for the sake of a peaceful life we just suck up the 10 quid between us each time we go. 50p really isn't very much each, and yes although i disagree with the principle of having to pay, thats what the majority of people who voted wanted when asked. ~~~ London Skydivers ~~~
