  1. Afford huh? I knew there was something I was missing Wind Tunnel and Skydiving Coach http://www.ariperelman.com
  2. In the jump profile I think we should add Tunnel Flying as a discipline. I know a few people who post here who are primarily tunnel flyers and people (like myself) who practically live there. Also I was thinking that Skydive University Coach could be added as a rating. It's not a USPA rating, but neither is Birdman Instructor. Wind Tunnel and Skydiving Coach http://www.ariperelman.com
  3. Wow, that was great! Wind Tunnel and Skydiving Coach http://www.ariperelman.com
  4. LOL, thanks for the post Katie! That totally surprised me, I was definitely not expecting to see that as a post title! Skymama, I can't believe that you posted to a thread with such a blatant personal attack! The competition was sooo much fun and there were so many incredibly good tunnel flyers there. Nancy and I flew together for the 2-way category. It's so much fun to fly with. I posted some pictures here of some of our two-way stuff. I'm going to go through some of the video I have and hopefully try to post some of it online. Here's a couple team pictures, note how well we match... 5. Thanks for all your efforts in running the competition. I had a lot of fun and look forward to the next one!
  6. Chances are I'll be at the dropzone I'll definitely get on a birthday jump with you!
  7. Very cool, it'll be nice to have a log of your tunnel time even though it doesn't "count" towards anything right now it's still nice for your own records. I wish that I had logged my tunnel time so I could at least know how much time I've got. I think that I'm going to start keeping track of it from here on out though. Wind Tunnel and Skydiving Coach http://www.ariperelman.com
  8. I do not count my tunnel time towards my total ff time as it is not freefall. Wind Tunnel and Skydiving Coach http://www.ariperelman.com
  9. Dual monitor setup based off my laptop - the laptop screen is 1400 / 1050 and the external monitor is 1600 x 1200 Wind Tunnel and Skydiving Coach http://www.ariperelman.com
  10. Wow, that is some serious video I looked at the offheading.com site briefly, do you know if there's any other video angles of that? damn... Wind Tunnel and Skydiving Coach http://www.ariperelman.com
  11. Like my profile says, I load my reserve at 1.38 Wind Tunnel and Skydiving Coach http://www.ariperelman.com
  12. Be persitent and don't give up. Make sure everyone knows that you are looking to be on / start a team. The more people that know, the better the chances are that it will happen. Getting on a team, starting a team and being on a team are all hard work. Wind Tunnel and Skydiving Coach http://www.ariperelman.com
  13. You spend a lot of time on back flips and layouts so that when you are learning HD in there and fall off your head you know how to recover. It's all about safety. Keep in mind that if you loose your temper and act like a prick to your coaches, chances are they will not be helping you as much and it will take you longer to do things and learn less. It's probably better to just ask your coach why you are doing something... Wind Tunnel and Skydiving Coach http://www.ariperelman.com
  14. PD makes the Vengeance. It's not that they can't build an airlocked canopy (they do) it's that they won't build an airlocked + crossbraced canopy. Wind Tunnel and Skydiving Coach http://www.ariperelman.com
  15. I don't have any, but I know there's video of me flying HD in the tunnel with my RW suit. I think the people who have the video are back in Wisconsin or something like that by now though. I will definitely try to get pics at some point though... Wind Tunnel and Skydiving Coach http://www.ariperelman.com
  16. I happen to like to the look of flying HD in my RW suit, especially in the tunnel... Wind Tunnel and Skydiving Coach http://www.ariperelman.com
  17. The idea of booties for RW is not to give added stability, but to create more pressure on the legs so that there is more air deflection from a leg input and therefore faster movements. This added pressure on the feet makes it very difficult to maintain a sitfly position. If you are not very strong with your legs then the wind will cause your legs to fly up causing you to end up on your back. Standing is not very difficult with booties providing that you have a very good and straight stand and can get into it quickly. Headdown is no problem with booties and is actually easier because of the added drag on your legs. It would be very unsafe to try to learn HD with booties if there are other people around because if / when you lose stability on your head it will be very difficult to bail to a sit fly and will greatly increase your chances of corking. 18. LOL! I'm glad that I didn't print it out yet, it wouldn't be complete without that comment, thank you Ian Wind Tunnel and Skydiving Coach http://www.ariperelman.com
  19. My exit weight started at 170 and is now 174. Sabre 150 @ 26 jumps - 1.13 - too soon St 135 @ about 250 jumps - 1.26 - too soon St 120 @ about 650 jumps - 1.42 - too soon Katana 120 @ about 830 jumps - 1.45 - I think that this is right canopy for me now and plan on spending a very long time on it. Wind Tunnel and Skydiving Coach http://www.ariperelman.com
  20. Wind loading affects the speed and dive on the canopy where the size affects the responsiveness. A 170 loaded at 2.0 will fly very differently than a 90 loaded at 2.0 There's definitely more to the way a canopy flies than wing loading. Wind Tunnel and Skydiving Coach http://www.ariperelman.com
  21. Damn, some one beat us to it! And here I thought we were being original And I look forward to it I'll see you here in May It gets worse, I'm actually a belly flyer... My FF is shit compared to my belly, but that's what living in the tunnel does for you
  22. Yo Ron, you're a dick! Sorry, I just couldn't resist. Craig - Ron is definitely not a dick, he's just very blunt and doesn't feel the need to sugar coat his opinions when he gives them. He will also only talk about thing he knows about - his opinion is definitely one to listen to if given. Back to the topical stuff: I've thought about this kind of thing a lot with my downsizing. I feel that I downsized very quickly regarding knowledge of canopy flight, but didn't know any better in the beginning. The first canopy I bought was a Sabre 150 recommended to me by the S&TA of the dropzone - I had no business on something that small. I put about 250 jumps on that and then went to a Stiletto 135 - again, I had no business going to that. After about 350 jumps on the St 135 I downsized it to a St 120 - no business downsizing - see a trend? It was on the St 120 that I started to become aware of how serious canopy flight really is and realized how stupid I had been with my previous canopy choices and how lucky I had gotten. I did a lot of hop and pops on the 120 and got a lot of canopy coaching. I was planning on putting at least 700 - 1000 jumps on the St 120 and then checking out the Katana but I was recommended to switch over to the canopy by some very knowledgable canopy pilots whose opinion I definitely trust. So I demoed a Katana 120, loved it and bought it. I've put about 100 jumps on the Katana 120 and have absolutely no desire to downsize any time soon. I'll probably put another 1000 jumps on it before I'm getting anywhere near maxing it out. Then there's the 107, the 97, etc.. all to jump before I'd go to a Velocity. I can't see having "earned" the canopy experience to fly a Velocity for another 2000 jumps or so (putting me at a total of about 3000 jumps.) How can people with 200 jumps, or even 1000 jumps for that matter, have gotten the experience necessary to fly such a high performance canopy like that? I'll stop ranting and rambling now... Wind Tunnel and Skydiving Coach http://www.ariperelman.com
  23. I'll talk to Nancy, maybe we'll both do our hair for the tunnel competition When are you going to stop making excuses and come down to the tunnel and play with us? I'll show you a rat bastard... Wind Tunnel and Skydiving Coach http://www.ariperelman.com
  24. Thanks. You're definitely going to love the suit. She puts so much into every one and will not give it to you unless she's 100% satisfied with it as well. And a shit hot flyer! Gerry - picture 327 is actually one of our moves that I haven't seen anyone else do (but I'm sure there's other people who do it) that we'll be showing off at the tunnel competition We're basically doing a 2-way sit carve but I'm standing (sitting) on her knees while we do it. It's tons of fun! Wind Tunnel and Skydiving Coach http://www.ariperelman.com
  25. Thanks, that thing is so incredibly addictive and Nancy is just too much fun to fly with. Nothing like a chick who can fly on her head, especially in the tunnel I attached a few more picture. I like 277 - you rock Nancy! Wind Tunnel and Skydiving Coach http://www.ariperelman.com
