1. I liked what the poster above me wrote, and just wanted to second it. I am in the definite early stages of my jumping career, and I am knowingly transforming the fear into fearful excitement. Being afraid IS fun, its one of the main reasons I started skydiving, I wanted to scare the shit out of myself. --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...
 2. thanks for responding everyone, I have pretty much decided to hold off on the 2 way with this guy, and just put my money toward coach jumps. That will kill two birds with one stone because I need to be signing off things for my A license anyways. Thanks for the advice, I appreciate it! --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...
 3. good idea. Can we do it like I did with my later level AFF jumps, one of us exit, then imediately the other person gets in the door and exits like 1-2 seconds later? Will that work? Will the person exiting after have to "swoop" down to the person exiting first? --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...
 4.
When the canopy planes out, the raw variation of air pressure is likely to overestimate the vertical speed.
But by the time it planes out it would be below 130 feet AGL. And as someone said, the cypres is "smart" knowing that a canopy can't descend to 100 feet AGL then bounce back up to 300 (variation in pressure). I thought the problem was +130 feet AGL as you were setting up your "hook" "carve" whatever and building massive speed dropping in. Below 130 feet AGL the cypres wont activate. Correct? --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...
 5.
I'm afraid of looking out and trying to spot.
Me too the first time I spotted, my instructor explained it to me like this, "what are you afraid of? You have a freakin' parachute attached to you!!!" After that I wasn't so scared, maybe the humor was all I needed... --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...
 6. I was thinking about this the other day, and heres another thing you gotta taken into account. 2 years ago I was a lot shorter than my already short ~5"6". The harnesses of the DZs sport gear hardly could be called fitting me, yet they are safe, The MLW is too long, the hackey is too far, etc. If I lost a couple more inches or had started 2 years ago instead of 3 months ago, I dont know if I would feel safe jumping that gear. I don't know what really short/young people do. --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...

 8.
An airplane ride can't hurt you, can it?
Wait just a second there, man! Im more scared of the airplane than the skydive! --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...
 9. I applaud you for having the guts to back down, I dont think once I get to my first jump I would back down (barring bad weather) because Im progressively getting more and more pumped. Just a question though, why did you want to do it from 333 feet instead of 1000? I have never BASE jumped before, but I would think the 1000 foot jump would be a LOT safer. Longer delay, more seperation from object...Or am I missing something? --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...
 10.
seeing as how I am still not sure what a stepthrough is and what it would look like in the air.
Thanks, me either, can anyone post pictures of step throughs if you have em somewhere on your harddrive? I would sure appreciate it. --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...
 11.
SDAZ had the last line of their waiver ask if you wanted to purchase a copy of the waiver for like $350. It then said you didnt have to initial that line. I'm pretty sure that was put in just to trick people.
Haha, that'd be funny when you told them fuck no youre not paying. Im not sure I would want to be jumping at a DZ with an attitude like that. I like my DZ, friendly and down to earth (no pun intended). --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...
 12. dont get me wrong, I think some things should be regulated. The DZ gave me a student canopy to use during AFF, etc. Obviously they didn't give me the choice to fly that stiletto 120. And there was an AAD and RSL on it, but I think by the time I buy my first rig I should have enough experience to choose a decent 1:1 WL, or something a little less or greater than that. This is analogous to the ruling that all students must have an AAD until they get off student status, where by then they should decide for themselves if they want one. Same thing with canopies. I feel confident in myself that I will choose whats best for me, but like I said, thats pretty egocentric as now that I think about it I can probably think of some people that I don't think would choose the right canopy to fly...who knows, I don't want anymore regulation
 13.
Someone can get seriously injured from both coming out of a turn low, and coming out of a turn high
Youre talking about high performance turns while landing? Wouldn't the proper procedure to coming out of a turn too high would be to go to double fronts? Turn too low, I thought that was the one that bites most people. Maybe Im misunderstanding what youre saying... --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...
 14. education with no regulation, just because I feel confident in my ability to come to the correct answer for myself, and being the ego centric bastard that I am feel that everyone else is like I am. I tend to steer clear of regulation, regulation is for pussies. 15 jumps, .75 WL --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...
 15. why do you have to read the waiver? The waiver is for the DZ, not you. IMO if youre not aware of the risks and think that if something happens to you while skydiving then you should sue the DZ, you have no right to be skydiving at all anyways. Waivers are for DZs to cover their asses, not to inform us about skydiving. Thats what instructors are for. Just my opinion. --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...
 16.
Stiletto are very consistent on openings, where as the sabre (original) can at times open a little quicker than one might want
I thought a stiletto being fully elliptical would be significantly more difficult for an inexperienced person to control on opening, i.e. bad body position = chopping due to line twists. Isn't the sabre a bit more forgiving on openings, thus more consistent, the opposite of what you said? --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...
 17.
Airtec doesn't tell us the algorithm for deciding there is a breakaway, but based on what we know about the rest of the program, it's unlikely to be just a height/vertical velocity calculation.
A canopy "swooping" at a speed of 70 mph isn't descending 70 mph at all. A cypres works on altitude, pressure, etc, therefore you'd have to have a pretty steep dive, to get up to 70mph descent rate, right? --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...
 18. you could still pull the PC out if the handle broke, right? I'll make sure to check the PC I am jumping with though, thanks
 19.
Andy2 where is your proof that Astra's malfunction more often than a cypres malfunctions? dont post without info to back it up.
Yeah sorry, I really thought I phrased that as a question. I don't know! I only began skydiving a few months ago. I've been researching the hell out of AADs as they are pricey and I am poor. So far in my research I have noted that people talk about Astra misfires, but I rarely hear about cypres misfires. This could just be the way the system is set up? I want to know, but maybe its set up in a way that I will never. Regardless, I innately trust the cypres as the most reliable AAD on the market. Maybe that is a downfall. --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...

 21.
It just seems unwise to have a student onboard, in gear, and no JM. A/C emergency? Then what
Yeah, thats what I was thinking, I figured there would be a rule that said if the student jumps then the JM has to stay. Of course I guess if it was an early level of AFF one of the instructors could jump out. What about an emergency, if the student backs into a corner, terrified and refuses to jump? Are all bets off then and the JM can jump? --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...
 22.
It is a very serious topic and should not be treated lightheartedly.
I understand that it is a very serious topic, however I have no experience with it as I do not have a "significant other". I imagine the people that say they stopped dating girls/guys bc of skydiving are joking on the surface but deep down are hitting a chord of seriousness. Some people I have already met at the DZ would make very poor boyfriends/girlfriends bc of the level of involvement they have with themselves skydiving. Of course, on the other hand, I've met people that skydive for a living, skydive in the spare time, but would still, from an outward judgement make very good boyfriends/girlfriends. I think its an attitude thing, and if you truly love your significant other then it will survive your skydiving "habit", or rather it won't, and maybe its better off that way in some long far fetched destiny type way? --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...
 23. buuuuuuump. Just started the other day, almost 50% on my first work unit. Maybe some others will join! --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...
 24. oh damn you might be right! I had 3-4 coach jumps lined up before this but that will put me 2-3 jumps shy (not counting my A license check dive) short of my license. Maybe it will have to wait til next weekend I'd still appreciate any advice on first 2 way as I will be making it in a couple weeks rather than this coming weekend. That's probably for the best as I am still working on nailing solo exits. --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...
 25. Hello, I've lined up my first 2 way, with another student for next weekend. What should we plan to do, both our jump numbers are in the teens, should we plan to just try to dock and thats it? Keep it simple the first jump? Thanks! --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...
