  3. Hot DAMN, but do they care about math/science, eh? Clicky I feel sorry for those teachers...especially the math and science ones..they must LOVE their union right now. Of course, it's not like they have a CHOICE if they want to teach in many areas/schools...aren't most teacher's unions supporting purportedly pro-choice candidates? Oh! It's only ONE choice...I see... Teacher's unions are one of the major impediments in improving education in our country. Today I started the morning off with some push ups, situps, and other ab work with a wee bit o' stretching/yoga, then did some handstand work. I've been a louse the past week and haven't done too much. Will give myself a thorough assbeating this evening to get myself ready for the week. Hehehehehe. 14. I used to think that older people who didn't drink a lot daily were wusses with no tolerance. Now that I'm no longer young, stupid & tougher-than-woodpecker-lips, I realize that they were just smarter & wiser than I was because it hurts too damned much! Unless there is tequilla involved, however...or high quality beer. Vinny the Anvil Post Traumatic Didn't Make The Lakers Syndrome is REAL JACKASS POWER!!!!!!
  15. Some would say that, I would imagine. I have a few friends over there - Lebanese, UAE, and Bahraini - and spent a bit of time touring around Jordan and Oman. Didn't hear or read anything of that nature.
  16. Cool stuff! Billvon, NWFlyer, monkeycndo & I were chatting about this yesterday @ Perris. Going to be interesting to see how the rest of the mission plays out. Vinny the Anvil Post Traumatic Didn't Make The Lakers Syndrome is REAL JACKASS POWER!!!!!!
  17. Clicky Read this and it sparked a synapse WRT this thread. This is why I think it will be difficult to reduce Iranian support. They've dedicated themselves to instability in Iraq and Lebanon. Maintaining that instability is a key component of their foreign policy apparently, regardless of its human toll. What we desire is to have them take a 180 on that. Regardless of what promises we elicit as part of bargaining at any level, they are 99% likely not to keep them. 18. THey're light reads, but EXTREMELY good. Cornwell is now one of my favorite authors.
  19. I've heard that's a great read. I've been reading Bernard Cornwell's historical fiction about the Saxons during the time of King Alfred the Great. GREAT reads. Need to find Shantaram...

  21. Did you exepct anything less in SC? Is racism affecting his bid? Of course it is. There are racist voters that will vote for Sen Obama merely because he is black. This group has been cultivated by racists such as Al $harpton, Je$$e Jack$on, and that anti-Semitic bastard Farrakhan. Part of that cultivation is to ensure that said group remains racist in nature. However, that block of voters has always been firmly entrenched with the Democrats. On the other hand, there is a group of racist voters that will vote against Sen Obama merely because he is black. Much smaller in size, I would guestimate, but definitely there. These are the former KKK members and dumbfucks of that nature. Growing up in the South I knew some of these idiots - they're about evenly split normally between Democrats and Republicans on other issues, though the left denies it completely. Uneducated people who have no issues being reliant upon government are the subset of that group that leans left. The uneducated gun lovers and religious fanatics are a subset of that group that leans right - though one wonders how you can be religious and racist without knowing you're a hypocrite. Topic for another thread. Sen Obama, to his credit, seems to have avoided making his race an issue overtly. Smart move for him, as the racists that would have him do so are going to vote for him anyway. The Republicans could capitalize on this for the long term if they desired, with little detrimental effect to their campaign. Race will come up - if not from Obama himself, then from the usual suspects ($harpton, Jack$on, Farrakhan). Instead of ignoring those idiots, the Republicans should take them head on. Point out publicly that anyone who supports race based affirmative action and cannot also proclaim their support of racial discrimination is a coward, unworthy of being heard when discussing racial issues. True statement. The key for them is to do that publicly and as loudly - no louder - than the epithets thrown at them. Point out that those throwing such epithets are cowards who run from facts, cowards who cannot even state what they support and that if they run from facts they have no business in office. The racists that will vote for Senator Obama will be going to the polls in droves anyway. They're stoked to have a candidate of a certain race for the first time. They will never vote for a Republican candidate - ever. The right cannot hurt themselves by taking this route. By doing so they target swing voters who find racial discrimination disgusting enough to swing them to the right - in the short term, and take away (if they don't back down from the idiots and keep the argument strong and loud) a major and critical tool the left uses against them in every election to great effect. Does race have an effect - a slight one. It will influence certain groups of voters by increasing their desire to get to the polls. However their voting proclivities have been in place for some time, for the most part, and those will not change because of the race of either candidate. How the Republican party will react to the race card in this election will determine how much of an effect it will have, I believe. 23. The oil companies are an easy target on which to focus the ire of idiots. It helps get you re-elected. That's why they were doing that - I hope. Disgusting nonetheless. Vinny the Anvil Post Traumatic Didn't Make The Lakers Syndrome is REAL JACKASS POWER!!!!!!
  24. Hmmm...interesting as always, Marg, but I don't concur. I do think the US should assert leadership in the world while we're still able - especially on trade and environmental issues - but I don't think meeting with the Iranians at the presidential level is warranted given their current behavior. We could effect much of what you propose below that level - a public announcement by State that regime change in Iran is not a goal of US diplomacy/foreign policy would be a good thing, for example. The Iranians are openly supporting Iraqi instability via material and fiscal support of insurgents there as well as instability in Lebanon and the deaths of Israeli citizens via Hezbollah terrorists. Unfreezing Iranian assets would simply facilitate more $$ flowing to Hezbollah and to their insurgency efforts in Iraq. Lifting sanctions - partially; removing restrictions imposed by AECA and ITAR obviously wouldn't have my support - might be something to pursue in conjunction w/other trade talks, but not at the presidential level. I'm not sure how the sanctions are structured, but I think there's definitely some cooperation to be done there. Iran right now is pumping tons of oil they can't refine due to high sulfur content I've been told (by a fellow I met who's in the oil industry on a RJA flight from Muscat to Amman). Perhaps there's some technology we could use to help them with that problem and do it within current technology transfer constraints or via a mechanism that would ensure nothing critical was transferred. Engaging them on the future of Iraq could be a useful thing - again below the presidential level - and a way to entice them to cease their insurgency support. However, their memories of the recent war with Iraq will definitely give them a unique perspective on what that future should be. It would also make any Iranian cooperation w/Iraqis somewhat interesting to say the least. The Kuwaitis STILL hate the Iraqis and it makes cooperation difficult as HELL - even moving material through KU destined for Iraq is a royal pain in the arse. Basically, I don't like the thought of POTUS engaging directly with a state sponsor of terrorism - especially with Hezbollah's behavior as of late.
