  9. Much to the surprise of many, I do NOT hate all lefties - I used to be one myself. The ones I have a problem with are those to use lies, deceptions, and in general rely on the ignorance of the masses in order to promulgate their vision/argument. Liberalism in general does have some merit - especially at the local levels of government. Perhaps I'll post an Anvil Political philosophy sometime - nah. It'd bore the hell out of most people and I don't have time to write it. Beers, Vinny
  10. Now that I'm mellow, I'll just rant on your writing and not lefties in general, some of whom like Justin and Billvon and Wendy have good points from time to time. It's all too easy.... It's not a card - it's a fact. Deal with it. I'm racially insensitive and don't care. Who cares what race anyone is? Obviously you. A lack of diversity caused this reaction? I doubt it. I've been to Durham and Houston and seen Indians, Koreans, Chinese, Japanese, Thai, Malay, Vietnamese, and multiple other nationalities in both places. Where in Durham or Houston were they? With whom did they interact? Completely inconclusive. There you go with your stereotypes again. They don't work on me and are fabrications of your own mind based upon your prejudices and stereotypes. Yes it was called Mississipi Burning - and you left coasters can feel proud that Hugo Black and Robert Byrd were both KKK members from the same party as Pelosi, Feinstein, and Boxer. Without the KKK, the movie never would have been made. Count on it. I had read seventh largest, but as it's the same order of magnitude don't really care. I'd wager LA has a far greater economic effect than San Francisco - their water and insurance fiascos alone have impacted the state more. The looming deficit, distribution of tax burden, power problems, inane school textbook censorship, and ludicrous licensing fees ALONE should show that statement to be incorrect. Bush inherited an economy in recession. Deal with it. Hmm...Carter...Clinton's recession....Davis' mess...bad cliche? I think not. Check out New Mexico and Florida's economies. Your assertion is untenable by any standard. I was the fringe kid in high school - of sorts. T'was nice to have a full ride. THe purpose of this rant other than to expose your fascination with race? Where exactly is Palestine? When was it formed? Who was its first leader? What are its geographical boundaries? LMFAO. NEWSFLASH: America isn't about diversity (most of us don't care) nor is it about acceptance or any other nice feel-good topic. It's about freedom and equal rights for all. Have you even been to Louisiana? If so for how long? How many people do you know from there? You have no factual basis on which to make that claim. Try again. Falling back on? No it's not falling back, it's stating a fact. Your prejudice is insulting. I've never shot anyone in the back either, FYI. If you want to bring up the gunshooting anytime while describing the South, fine. Do it. But don't play the role of the ostrich when doing so. State all of the facts: Southern policemen shot a man who was driving drunk and took them on a wild chase through Louisiana highways then proceeded to not follow instructions after climbing out of his crashed automobile and flashing an object at them. I think this makes them racist because....... There you go. Now complete the sentence and state your facts - ooops! You have none! Isn't that dandy? Ohhhhhhh...what makes you think that guy ever deserved to go to college? Do you have his ACT/SAT scores? Do you know his academic merit? A lefty talking about racial gerrymandering is just too funny to even start talking about. Learn your history and bask in thine own hypocrisy. You have absolutely nothing but your own prejudice to blame for your unwarranted and untenable comments about the citizens of Louisiana. Try again with some facts. Argumentatively, I just did - again. The economy is large and not that strong. Diversity has nothing to do with the strength of economy. America is about freedom and opportunity for all - not diversity (again: who other than some of you lefties cares?) With regards to your accent, anyone who travels far enough from their home has an accent that will be noticed. Who cares? Always.
  11. It never ceases to amaze me how these threads grow. Great points by PhillyKev, BillVon, Bodypilot, et al. I'll make a few remarks in this one post so as not to post whore. New American Century One word: scary. French-Iraq Business Transactions I think one of the WORST thing we could do as an occupying interim government is declare all Iraqi debts null and void. Some of them - those which were illegal under sanctions - could and should be declared null and void. However, there were many legitimate investments/debts/business transactions/etc that occurred between Saddam Hussein's governments and other governments. We as a nation have consistently lobbied AGAINST forgiving the massive debt of many poor third world nations - mainly because the reason most are in debt is because of their corrupt leaders/government and we don't want to reward bad behavior. Doing so in the case of Iraq would mark us as the biggest hypocrites of the age. Here, the Frenchies have a legitimate beef. WMDs We've only had a couple of months with many other missions/priorities conccurent to this one. I'm going to hold off judgement here, but remain skeptical. In Bush's defense, review his ultimatum speech. He referred to rape rooms, wars against neighboring states, and etc when telling Hussein he was on 48 hours notice. It wasn't just WMDs though they CERTAINLY were Bush's driving point throughout the entire build up. Random Thoughts I think that five years is far too low as far as the amount of time we'll have forces over there en masse. As a side effect to this war, I think we'll see a massive US presence in Iraq, a migration of forces from German bases to Taszar in Hungary and other former Eastern European nations - though we'll never totally end our presence in Deutschland in the forseeable future, and a much reduced US role in NATO - whose charter has arguably become obsolete. The success of the operation in Iraq will be determined by how well we set up the government there and take care of the rebuilding process. In this regards, I think Newt Gingrich had a viable criticism of the Bush administration - look at how little we've rebuilt Afghanistan at this point. Enough on this. I want to check out some other stuff. Interesting banter. Beers, Vinny the Anvil Vinny the Anvil Post Traumatic Didn't Make The Lakers Syndrome is REAL JACKASS POWER!!!!!!
  12. Dammit! I should never post in the forums post-workout and pre-coffee. Adrenaline plus natural pre-coffee grouchiness (which helps for a great workout) make me a bit more aggressive than I normally am. Add to that my natural ire that comes with the stereotyping of Southerners as racist good ol' boys and any sort of racism in general, and my infamous smile ALMOST goes away. Believe it or not, I was modelling away with my computer when I started thinking about that post for some odd reason. Thinking of that and a PM are what got me back here. You busted me, fair and square. My apologies to the group/SadSue. I hold my logic as tenable, but my method of presenting it was wrong. I should have generalized vice focused in on a single person and etc. Baaaaaaad Vinny. I'll drink coffee before any more early AM posts, I promise. I'll read everyone else's Anvil-Slams and banter some more later, as I have to run to a meeting and actually do some work. You got me jfields (Justin I believe?) - thanks for pointing it out. Dammit! I'm late! Beers to all, Vinny the Anvil (still racially insensitive, Southern, and proud)
  13. It's quite obvious your are happy to stand your ground even when you have absolutely no facts to back up your opinions. Your previous assertion that 'enlightened' cops would not have reacted in a similar manner is ludicrous to the point of insanity. You have no factual basis or data with which to back that assertion up - especially with the vitriolic undertones of your postings. Knowing a few cops myself, I believe ALL of them would have reacted in the same manner. The three black cops shooting a white guy allusion you present is hilarious. I for one, and I'm sure BlueEyed et al feel the same way, wouldn't give a damn. I'd be glad the cops did their job. Unlike the bleeding heart liberals infesting San Fran, I neither judge anyone by thier race nor support any program that does. It seems to me that you are extremely prejudiced. You have never met any of the cops in this incident, probably don't even know their names (unless you look it up after reading this post), and in general know nothing about them other than their participation in the shooting, the state in which they live, and their color. Relying solely on the basis of their color and geographical location, you have made the assumption that they are unenlightened and inferred that they are racists. Because it is YOU that have made an inference based on the race of others, it is YOU that are racially prejudiced. QED. So much for NorCal 'enlightenment' - unless you consider being racially prejudiced a prerequisite trait for said enlightenment that is. I'm a Kentuckian myself transplanted out here to NorCal as a matter of fact, and believe your opinions to be in the MINORITY over here outside the confines of San Fran. As a Southerner, I find your prejudiced views quite disturbing and insulting. A few factoids that might perhaps cauterize the cuts bleeding your liberal heart: - poverty (moral or monetary) knows neither racial, ethnic, nor national boundaries - righteousness exists outside of SanFran - most southerners AREN'T racists and many of us are quite educated I'll stop there with the factoids. The steam of cauterization might suffocate you should I proceed further. I suggest you write a few letters - say to the cops in question, the governors of every state in the South, and letters to the editors of some major papers in the South, apologizing for your prejudice(racial and geographical), admit your ignorance of the facts, and promising to reform yourself. Racially insensitive, Southern, and damn proud of it, Vinny the Anvil
  14. HUGE vibes her way. Prayers as well...
  15. I think your paradigm applies for Iraq but not Afghanistan, as their leadership cadre had been sheltering bin Laden for years. Because of their immediate statement to the international press following the 11 Sep attacks I think they knew they had it coming. From a foreign policy perspective I think we would have been remiss NOT to destroy that regime in light of the results of their hiding OBL. It worries me a bit is the possibility that any WMDs that were there in Iraq were given to ne'er-do-wells - among other things that worry me. I've read that the amount of anthrax Saddam once admitted to posessing would only fill about 1/2 a tractor trailer if in powdered form. Fairly easy to transport that en masse clandestinely. Fairly easy to hide too, but that's another story. If the WMDs never existed in the first place, we've got some serious questions to ask about our intelligence gathering from ALL angles. And that worries me as well. Blah blah blah. Beers to all, Vinny the Anvil Vinny the Anvil Post Traumatic Didn't Make The Lakers Syndrome is REAL JACKASS POWER!!!!!!
  16. The WMD situation concerns me in several aspects. Are our intelligence services producing good data? If these things existed-what the hell happened to them? etc. I think you took Bush out of context a bit - but rightfully so - he IS a politician after all. A few interesting quotes for you: "[W]e urge you, after consulting with Congress, and consistent with the U.S. Constitution and laws, to take necessary actions (including, if appropriate, air and missile strikes on suspect Iraqi sites) to respond effectively to the threat posed by Iraq's refusal to end its weapons of mass destruction programs." -- From a letter signed by Joe Lieberman, Dianne Feinstein, Barbara A. Milulski, Tom Daschle, & John Kerry among others on October 9, 1998 "This December will mark three years since United Nations inspectors last visited Iraq. There is no doubt that since that time, Saddam Hussein has reinvigorated his weapons programs. Reports indicate that biological, chemical and nuclear programs continue apace and may be back to pre-Gulf War status. In addition, Saddam continues to refine delivery systems and is doubtless using the cover of a licit missile program to develop longer- range missiles that will threaten the United States and our allies." -- From a December 6, 2001 letter signed by Bob Graham, Joe Lieberman, Harold Ford, & Tom Lantos among others "Saddam's goal ... is to achieve the lifting of U.N. sanctions while retaining and enhancing Iraq's weapons of mass destruction programs. We cannot, we must not and we will not let him succeed." -- Madeline Albright, 1998 "Iraq made commitments after the Gulf War to completely dismantle all weapons of mass destruction, and unfortunately, Iraq has not lived up to its agreement." -- Barbara Boxer, November 8, 2002 "The last UN weapons inspectors left Iraq in October of 1998. We are confident that Saddam Hussein retained some stockpiles of chemical and biological weapons, and that he has since embarked on a crash course to build up his chemical and biological warfare capability. Intelligence reports also indicate that he is seeking nuclear weapons, but has not yet achieved nuclear capability." -- Robert Byrd, October 2002 "What is at stake is how to answer the potential threat Iraq represents with the risk of proliferation of WMD. Baghdad's regime did use such weapons in the past. Today, a number of evidences may lead to think that, over the past four years, in the absence of international inspectors, this country has continued armament programs." -- Jacques Chirac, October 16, 2002 "The community of nations may see more and more of the very kind of threat Iraq poses now: a rogue state with weapons of mass destruction, ready to use them or provide them to terrorists. If we fail to respond today, Saddam and all those who would follow in his footsteps will be emboldened tomorrow." -- Bill Clinton in 1998 "In the four years since the inspectors left, intelligence reports show that Saddam Hussein has worked to rebuild his chemical and biological weapons stock, his missile delivery capability, and his nuclear program. He has also given aid, comfort, and sanctuary to terrorists, including Al Qaeda members, though there is apparently no evidence of his involvement in the terrible events of September 11, 2001. It is clear, however, that if left unchecked, Saddam Hussein will continue to increase his capacity to wage biological and chemical warfare, and will keep trying to develop nuclear weapons. Should he succeed in that endeavor, he could alter the political and security landscape of the Middle East, which as we know all too well affects American security." -- Hillary Clinton, October 10, 2002 "I am absolutely convinced that there are weapons...I saw evidence back in 1998 when we would see the inspectors being barred from gaining entry into a warehouse for three hours with trucks rolling up and then moving those trucks out." -- Clinton's Secretary of Defense William Cohen in April of 2003 "Iraq is not the only nation in the world to possess weapons of mass destruction, but it is the only nation with a leader who has used them against his own people." -- Tom Daschle in 1998 "Saddam Hussein's regime represents a grave threat to America and our allies, including our vital ally, Israel. For more than two decades, Saddam Hussein has sought weapons of mass destruction through every available means. We know that he has chemical and biological weapons. He has already used them against his neighbors and his own people, and is trying to build more. We know that he is doing everything he can to build nuclear weapons, and we know that each day he gets closer to achieving that goal." -- John Edwards, Oct 10, 2002 "I share the administration's goals in dealing with Iraq and its weapons of mass destruction." -- Dick Gephardt in September of 2002 "Iraq does pose a serious threat to the stability of the Persian Gulf and we should organize an international coalition to eliminate his access to weapons of mass destruction. Iraq's search for weapons of mass destruction has proven impossible to completely deter and we should assume that it will continue for as long as Saddam is in power." -- Al Gore, 2002 "We are in possession of what I think to be compelling evidence that Saddam Hussein has, and has had for a number of years, a developing capacity for the production and storage of weapons of mass destruction." -- Bob Graham, December 2002 "We have known for many years that Saddam Hussein is seeking and developing weapons of mass destruction." -- Ted Kennedy, September 27, 2002 "I will be voting to give the president of the United States the authority to use force - if necessary - to disarm Saddam Hussein because I believe that a deadly arsenal of weapons of mass destruction in his hands is a real and grave threat to our security." -- John F. Kerry, Oct 2002 "We begin with the common belief that Saddam Hussein is a tyrant and a threat to the peace and stability of the region. He has ignored the mandates of the United Nations and is building weapons of mass destruction and the means of delivering them." -- Carl Levin, Sept 19, 2002 "Over the years, Iraq has worked to develop nuclear, chemical and biological weapons. During 1991 - 1994, despite Iraq's denials, U.N. inspectors discovered and dismantled a large network of nuclear facilities that Iraq was using to develop nuclear weapons. Various reports indicate that Iraq is still actively pursuing nuclear weapons capability. There is no reason to think otherwise. Beyond nuclear weapons, Iraq has actively pursued biological and chemical weapons.U.N. inspectors have said that Iraq's claims about biological weapons is neither credible nor verifiable. In 1986, Iraq used chemical weapons against Iran, and later, against its own Kurdish population. While weapons inspections have been successful in the past, there have been no inspections since the end of 1998. There can be no doubt that Iraq has continued to pursue its goal of obtaining weapons of mass destruction." -- Patty Murray, October 9, 2002 "As a member of the House Intelligence Committee, I am keenly aware that the proliferation of chemical and biological weapons is an issue of grave importance to all nations. Saddam Hussein has been engaged in the development of weapons of mass destruction technology which is a threat to countries in the region and he has made a mockery of the weapons inspection process." -- Nancy Pelosi, December 16, 1998 "Even today, Iraq is not nearly disarmed. Based on highly credible intelligence, UNSCOM [the U.N. weapons inspectors] suspects that Iraq still has biological agents like anthrax, botulinum toxin, and clostridium perfringens in sufficient quantity to fill several dozen bombs and ballistic missile warheads, as well as the means to continue manufacturing these deadly agents. Iraq probably retains several tons of the highly toxic VX substance, as well as sarin nerve gas and mustard gas. This agent is stored in artillery shells, bombs, and ballistic missile warheads. And Iraq retains significant dual-use industrial infrastructure that can be used to rapidly reconstitute large-scale chemical weapons production." -- Ex-Un Weapons Inspector Scott Ritter in 1998 "There is unmistakable evidence that Saddam Hussein is working aggressively to develop nuclear weapons and will likely have nuclear weapons within the next five years. And that may happen sooner if he can obtain access to enriched uranium from foreign sources -- something that is not that difficult in the current world. We also should remember we have always underestimated the progress Saddam has made in development of weapons of mass destruction." -- John Rockefeller, Oct 10, 2002 "Saddam’s existing biological and chemical weapons capabilities pose a very real threat to America, now. Saddam has used chemical weapons before, both against Iraq’s enemies and against his own people. He is working to develop delivery systems like missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles that could bring these deadly weapons against U.S. forces and U.S. facilities in the Middle East." -- John Rockefeller, Oct 10, 2002 "Whether one agrees or disagrees with the Administration’s policy towards Iraq, I don’t think there can be any question about Saddam’s conduct. He has systematically violated, over the course of the past 11 years, every significant UN resolution that has demanded that he disarm and destroy his chemical and biological weapons, and any nuclear capacity. This he has refused to do. He lies and cheats; he snubs the mandate and authority of international weapons inspectors; and he games the system to keep buying time against enforcement of the just and legitimate demands of the United Nations, the Security Council, the United States and our allies. Those are simply the facts." -- Henry Waxman, Oct 10, 2002 From the preceeding quotes, I conclude that if GWB lied about WMDs, so did a TON of other people (most of them Bush detractors as well). And finally, some articles of interest on the subject: http://www.anncoulter.org/columns/2003/060403.htm http://www.townhall.com/columnists/georgewill/gw20030622.shtml I love Ann Coulter to death, but agree more with George Will here. 17. What gets me about this whole incident and others which are similar is the lack of any real leadership from the side of those who play the race card in incidents such as this. From this incident all the way up north the the recent riots in Michigan, to the riots in Cincinnatti. The lack of true leadership is always there. From the race baiters we hear 'he was only shot because he was black/hispanic' or 'the white cops chased after him and shot him' or 'they're out to get black/hispanic people.' Bullshit. A LEADER would go into schools, churches, and other locations in these communities and use the shootings as an example to prevent future incidents. Those we hear playing the race card are not leaders - they are politicians/deadbeats looking for a handout or a podium to spew their vitriolic hate. A speech for one of these forums might be as follows: This is Joe Schmuckatelly who broke the law and ran from the cops. He is dead and his family is in tears. He is dead because he made choices. He chose to break the law. He chose to run from the police. You kids can choose too. What choice will you make? Do you want to die? Do you want to make your mother cry? If not, make the right choice. Do what the police tell you. Don't break the law. Work hard, stay in school, blah blah blah blah. That's not what we hear from these race baiting buffoons - ever. BlueEyedMonster has the situation nailed. That guy chose to get drunk, he chose to run from the police, he chose to put others in danger, and he chose to whip out his cell phone like he did. His color had nothing to do with those choices, nor did the color of the cops who shot his dumb ass. Kudos to the cops and pshaw to their detractors. Beers, TheAnvil
