  2. - All you can eat sushi - sunsets on the beach with beer and a bonfire - completing a nice run - cracking open that first beer three or four weeks after you bottled it Hmm....there must be others....your list was nice Cora. Beers to all, Vinny the Anvil
  3. Check out these Bubbas. You have to go to more than one country - or at least you used to - but the rates they got for me going to Africa were UNREAL compared to the vendors you mentioned. http://www.airtreks.com/ Make sure you try a suco acai, see the Iguacu cataracts, try a capharinia, do a churrascaria, and have a few chopees. I love that country. Beers, Vinny the Anvil
  4. Dammit! I thought ChopChop nipple was going to be a pick of Roy with some boobies! Damn you for blinding me with this evil photo! Damn you straight to the beer fridge to return with beer! 5. No dude, you've got this phenomena mistaken with something else. St Elmo's fire is a corona or point discharge. Cool stuff, but different from this. Check out this link for some basic info: http://www.physics.northwestern.edu/classes/2001Fall/Phyx135-2/17/whatisstelmosfire.html I wonder what freqs they were talking about? Perhaps these things somehow relate to SEUs for LEO sats? Who knows. It'll be interesting to see. Now BALL LIGHTNING is some really cool shit with some fairly complex equations. I had a class in undergrad from a ball lightning expert - Finklestein - which was pretty cool. Beers, Vinny the Anvil
  6. I agree with some of this and disagree with other portions. Due to the innumerable unrelated ammendments to many bills that plague our legislative system today I think voting records skew the actual views of many legislators in a way. The environment is one area in which I give the lefties (I used to be an ardent one) an edge over Republicans. But dammit if they don't lie so often and do some outright ludicrous things in that area. Truth be told I'm angered with both parties over the environment. I think its a combination of lack of education, ignorance, and corporate lobbying that makes them the way they are. An Anvil-Environmental plan would take a long time to write, but immediate actions would include funding Integral Fast Reactor research (cut by El Jefe Clintonista over the SCREAMS of lefties and conservatives alike), biodiesel, hybrid vehicles, increased tax incentives for solar power in residential and commercial buildings, gas standards for SUVs (sorry folks, I HATE these things), and many other things too numerous to list. I don't think state governments and city governments are proactive enough in this arena and I think the federal gov't is running in circles. Blah blah blah. I could type for hours about this but don't feel like it right now. Education without accountability is crap. I didn't see many politicians from either party screaming BAR RULE#11 a few months back when some idiot sued the school board because their kid didn't pass their senior english class. Sickening. Because I've travelled abroad on every continent other than Antartica and have seen what kind of education even third world countries can achieve, the $$=better education mantra doesn't work on me. When the NEA screams this mantra repeatedly I think about the NEA folks' salaries compared to the teachers they supposedly represent and feel sick in my stomach. Neither party has a plan to save public education because neither party has the guts to tell the NEA what it can do with itself and then hold teachers accountable as well as hold parents and students accountable and FAIL THE KIDS when they deserve it. 8. Failure of the entrance exam would mean they don't get into the high school or middle school and repeat the last grade. Since the teachers would know the areas they are weak in, they could focus on those areas. Teacher bonuses - a painful subject that would arise, I'm sure. In my plan they are not equal in all areas because in the corporate sector not all majors are equally valued by the corporate sector. A ChemE will ALWAYS make more than an English Lit major with a comparable degree. No question about it. Therefore, to attract more scientific/engineering majors into teaching school I would offer them higher bonuses than English/Lit majors. The idea behind my bonus plan was to entice intelligent people with bachelors/masters degrees in their fields to teach in high schools. By compensating them with said bonuses, they would be earning a salary commensurate with their peers in the same majors. Roughly. Those were rough #'s but I think they're close to the mark. Will the English Lit folks be pissed? Yep. Will they make a bit more money than their fellow English Lit majors by teaching a subject they have a degree in? Yep as well. Market forces were driving that. Sad but true, because those folks put a lot of hard hours in during college to earn a degree that doesn't normally command a lot of $$ in salary. I think the plan has a few flaws, but that's the general route I would take were I instantly made governor today. Perhaps following the German model a bit more with the Grundschule, Realschule, Fachschule, and Gymnasium, but such a system in one state would make transfers from out of state virtually impossible and the roars from parents during the first few years would piss me off. I think my plan would work well for American culture and achieve decent results in the relative short term. Education and the lack thereof is one of the gravest dangers our nation faces today, IMHO. 9. But all the money in the world will do no good when the attitude is absent. Students really aren't motivated by the current system. I have a nice plan to fix education that I'll implement when I am Governor of some fortunate state. Right after I legalize BASE. There are several parts. 1) Entrance and exit exams for both High School and Middle School. You have five years to complete high school. You have sports eligibility for the first four. However long it takes to complete Middle School. Sports eligibility for the first three years. If, after five years you have NOT completed high school, you get a certificate of completion and its 'have a nice life'. No state funded colleges will accept a certificate of completion for entry. Certificate of completion will NOT equal diploma so a GED would be required for the military. A state subsidized GED program would probably be needed as well, but only a partial subsidy. 2) Teacher bonuses. US$10K bonuses for math/science teachers with Bachelor's degrees in math, science, chemistry, biology or engineering. US$20K for those with master's in those fields. US$5 for teachers with master's in English Lit/Business/Journalism. All tax exempt (state taxes anyway; I'd have to lobby for federal). Hard science majors earn more money, so they would be compensated more. 3) Driver's licenses. This is what high schoolers yearn for and revere. Use it as a motivational tool. Revoked for High Schoolers during their fifth year, exceptions to be made by city councils on a case by case basis for special home-to-work licenses only. Violation of home-to-work equates to suspension of the license for two years. Additionally, US history, basic science, algebra, arithmetic, and reading comprehension would be on the written test en masse for anyone without a HS diploma or certificate of completion. Hehehehehehe. Watch math/science/reading improve in about two years after this is put into effect. I mean DRAMATIC improvement. There are other minutia, but the above would be the main focus of an Anvil Education Improvement Act. I think it should be done at the state level. Details for transfers from out of state, special students, and etc would have to be made, but I think that the above plan, if implemented would yield great dividends over time - probably a three to seven year time period. 10. I don't think liberals are either tolerant or more pro-education than conservatives. While they claim to be pro-environment, they routinely lie to back up their claims and piss me off in that regard. Liberals are tolerant as long as they get their way - then they scream like two year olds, suck their thumbs, and lie about whoever didn't give them exactly what they wanted. They tolerate egregious faults in themselves and smear conservatives over minutia (most often lying in the process ala Bob Bork). The left's claim to fame on education is their virtual stranglehold on college academia and the NEA's endorsement. Neither inspires me to support them in that regard. They have no ideas on improving education other than 'send more federal money' and smaller class sizes. (OOPS! I forgot about squashing school voucher programs and ending home-schooling.) It's impossible to take anyone seriously on education who opposes standards of almost any sort for teachers or students. This conservative congress sure as hell isn't interested in cutting spending, which ticks me off at them. 16. I write letters to the editor on occasion regarding liberal bias in the media - few of them get published. I DO think it useful to do so, however. The more letters they get from skydivers the more they will listen. The best thing we can do for the sport in this regard is spread as much positive information as possible. Perhaps invite a reporter to the DZ and have a prepared presentation with some hard data for him/her to look at - perhaps even offering them a ffree tandem. It would be best if the media weren't looking at DZ's only when there is an accident. Inviting them to boogies, sending notices tto local papers of new licensees/awardees, and such would really do a lot for the sport in the PR arena. That's what I would do were I a DZO. 18. Yes I do. And I also know that as a percentage of GNP this is not the largest deficit in history.

  20. I find your stereotypes humorous in a way and sad in others. The democratic party has always been and is still steeped in the practice of judging people by their race and supporting programs that do the same. The Oreo Cookie incident after the LT GOV election in Maryland demonstrates this fact-of-life quite aptly, as does their support of institutionalized racism, their opposition to CA PROP 209, the recent party layoff scandal, and the way they target their campaign propaganda. The 'Republicans are racists' lie doesn't hold water - they are racially insensitive and proud of it (just like us libertarians). Bible thumpers....ahhh...the anti-Christian bias of the media who coined this term. Christian folks like the conservative side of the political house because we tend to tell the truth more often than lefties, not cheat on our wives (Kerry and Clinton), donate to charity (how much was it Al Gore donated the year before the election?), and generally stick with Christian principles in their actions.
  21. I'm shedding a tear reading your response......KICKASS!!!
  22. I saw your ass shirtless.........I'm buying you some tanning creme so you won't be mistaken for a lighthouse at the beach. How the hell did you stay that white with all of that sun? If Cora and Andrea hadn't put more suntan lotion on my back I'd be burned to a frazzle. You must have some natural protection of sorts, because a t-shirt is supposedly only SPF 3 or 4 if I remember. We could have scrambled some eggs on the road out there it was so hot. This weekend was AWESOME! 20 jumps - some on big ways with that Roger Ponce dude, lot's of Moylan's beer, a night jump, lots of other beer, lots of friends, and lot's of big ways - including my 200th jump on the DZ.COM attempt with y'all! Seeing SkydiveXXL de-arch after he went a little low after we funnelled was the coolest damn thing - I MUST get a camera, because he popped up like NOTHING I've ever seen and can only hope to emulate and Lord knows that's a skill I need being TheAnvil. That, jumping with Guano while they were head down and me on my belly, seeing a kickass Deuce track after SkyMama's hanging from he and ChopChop, Andy's infamous de-arch, and just hanging out with all of my skydiving pals made it a kickass four days. I'm sappy too dammit. Sappy Anvil - who the hell poured syrup on me?
  23. Not that far of a stretch? You've got some imagination. It's hard to screw up the economy worse than he inherited it. Running a deficit that is such a small percentage of GNP as he is doing in light of recent events is fairly remarkable.
  24. Happy Birthday Seb! Drink beer, carouse with women, pass out in the gutter! But not for too long, because you're in MinneSOOOOtah and if you spent the night face down in the gutter, your favorite appendage might get frost-bitten or something - not your nose.
