Please tell me nobody printed this...you MUST be joking, right? Vinny the Anvil Post Traumatic Didn't Make The Lakers Syndrome is REAL JACKASS POWER!!!!!!

Perhaps...if the incident itself were the lone leg supporting my argument...and if Acts 5:9-10 didn't seem to indicate Peter as the one executing Sapphira (if not executing himself then at the very least timing it)... Good point though.

I am in Virginia on a project up here. Some buffoon sked an event for Sunday at eight, so I left the KICKASS folks at Skydive Westpoint last night and drove back to VA BEACH so I could get there. Well, I show up and the my partner from up here calls my cell to let me know that I don't have to be there because the contractor won't be ready until 2 PM. How the hell can you sked an event on a weekend at 8 AM and then not know you're not going to be ready until 7:30 AM that morning? I mean WTFO? Don't these people realize skydiving on sunny weekends is sacred? I went running to blow off some steam and I'm still irked. OK. I've ranted. I'm almost back to happy Vinny once again. And skydivexxl didn't even have to spray me with a fire extinguisher! I must be mellowing out. I'm off to go jump at Suffolk for a bit then go back there. Right wing meda....FOX news hatred yet again. And Taranto as well. I fully see your position on FOX news COMMENTATORS as quoted here, but really can't see your WSJ jibe. This whole incident is disgusting. I really have trouble giving the Muslim demonstrators abroad (and here) any credibility when they failed to demonstrate against atrocities far worse than humiliation at the same facilities by Hussein's henchman. It shows they don't really care about the atrocities themselves - just hating America and making her look bad by any means possible. (not to imply that these incidents don't show America in a poor light) Vinny the Anvil Post Traumatic Didn't Make The Lakers Syndrome is REAL JACKASS POWER!!!!!!

And WHY did they drop dead? For offenses against the community. Also from the New Testament we have Romans 13:1-4 and 6:23 showing St. Paul's position on government justice. Interesting. By taking a justice vice personal vengeance position, no facet of Scripture need be ignored. Aquinas and St Augustine (in City of God) both conclude the death penalty to be tolerable by Christian standards, with St. Augustine actually taking my position with regards to the difference between personal vengeance and capital punishment by a state. Cardinal Avery Dulles wrote an excellent piece on the subject a couple of years back - good reading.

Yes, as a matter of fact I'd say he does. Unfortunately for those seeking to rationalize their anti-death penalty position on such, they must also acknowledge Jesus' declaration about the Chair of Peter's authority....and also must acknowledge the death penalty levied against Sapphira and Ananias. Their argument does not hold up against Scripture, much less against analysis. I think that a personal vengeance vs governmental justice argument in favor the death penalty ignores nothing from Scripture and is the reason the current Catechism does not forbid the death penalty outright. WDYT?

The Church's many many wrongdoings throughout history - not merely during the inquisition - don't really have much bearing on the merit of Aquinas' arguments on the death penalty. I see you don't really want to discuss the Aquinas view of the death penalty. No worries - I just brought it up as a feeler to see what you DID want to shoot the breeze about on the issue. Aquinas is a bit difficult to discuss if you haven't read him in a while and I only happened to do so by chance. I still remain perplexed with regards to what you want to discuss, but minor details. A lot of Church clergy base their opposition to the death penalty on the New Testament, while completely ignoring the case of Ananias and Sapphira in the Acts - a well as other examples, such as in one of Paul's letters to the Romans. How do you think they justify this to themselves? Vinny the Anvil Post Traumatic Didn't Make The Lakers Syndrome is REAL JACKASS POWER!!!!!!

My dearest Kallend - I find myself simultaneously delighted, perturbed, flattered, and puzzled at your invitation to discuss the Catholic Church and Capital Punishment. Excellent idea - stemming from PhillyKev's recent thread I am sure. I'm flattered that you've asked me for enlightenment, yet puzzled in the manner you've chosen to do so - querying me for knowledge you no doubt already possess. Quite odd. I'm also puzzled by the fact that you ask for enlightenment when I never offered such to you (though I'll gladly give it). If you took my previous prose as some sort of gauntlet to pick up in the Medieval sense, you've picked up what was not offered. I'm perturbed because I'm currently on travel and only log on once a day or so - for brief periods. I now await upon a dz.com maiden who is enroute to my hotel to show me the local environs. Given that it's Cinco de Mayo and my reknowned penchant for tequila, I doubt I'll log on again today. T'will most likely be tomorrow evening before I log on again. Despite the aforementioned, I'm delighted to debate this with you. Since you already know the answers to the questions you asked, I'll not waste your time by answering them (unless you so desire). The Pope occupies the Chair of Peter - not any of the American bishops - and it is John Paul II that sets policy - which, as I pointed out to you in the other thread, does NOT expressly forbid (unlike abortion/euthanasia). The points you desired to make are truly non-sequitur to the issue in Philly's thread, but definitely germane to any discussion of the Church and the death penalty. I was reading Aquinas the other day whilst on travel (Summa Theologica) and found his arguments on the issue quite interesting. I only read it because the dude on the flight was doing so (a philosophy major from UCLA or USC; I forget) and it piqued my interest as I hadn't read it in years, but did happen across the passage while skimming it. I'm sure you, like me until recently, haven't read Aquinas in years, but since you're a professor I'm sure one of your colleagues can point you in the direction of the passage. Quite interesting. Eager to hear what you actually want to discuss. Chat with you tomorrow herein. beers to all,
-
OK. Two people post this clip from the catechism without reading it. This is not an outright ban on the death penalty. Unlike abortions. Now if you'd like to debate the controversy over the argument behind this catechism - including why it is not an outright ban, by all means start another thread and I'll join in with gusto. Kerry, TeddyK, and Daschle are all worthy of excommunication - and not just for their ardent support of abortion. Dudes, chill on the fellow. Jiggs - I believe it was in one of the Federalist papers or some other writings of the era that some contributor to the Constitution stated 'Who is the militia? I am he!' Every citizen capable of bearing arms at the time was considered part of the militia - or at least a damned tenable argument can be made to that effect - hence the wording of the second ammendment. Nightingale might have more info on that...I think it was James Madison, but am not sure...

Military colleagues say Kerry unfit to be Commander-in-Chief
TheAnvil replied to panzwami's topic in Speakers Corner
Why should Bush do such a thing? He hasn't said all wounded vets are two-faced, though I'm sure several other than sKerry are. Now virtually ALL of this 'Bush was in the National Guard', 'Bush didn't show up', 'Bush didn't go to 'Nam' rhetoric and inuendo coming out of Kerry's campaign and its syncophants, on the other hand, says a lot about their opinions of Bush's peers during those years. I'm sure all of them would just love to hear Mr. FlipFlop tell them what he thinks of them. Vinny the Anvil Post Traumatic Didn't Make The Lakers Syndrome is REAL JACKASS POWER!!!!!! -
Military colleagues say Kerry unfit to be Commander-in-Chief
TheAnvil replied to panzwami's topic in Speakers Corner
Odd you're making such a statement given the widely publicized evidence Mr. Bush has presented to the contrary. A more germane query: Why doesn't the Kerry campaign issue a statement condemning every American who served in the national guard or obtained an education deferrment during the Vietnam War. Call them all scumbags straight out, instead of implying it with inane rhetoric? Probably the same reason he won't scream his staunch support of racial discrimination from whatever podium he happens to be speaking...he lacks the courage. Not at all disgusted by the truth, just your deliberate misrepresentation of it. Like I said - do your research and get back to us when you know something. Vinny the Anvil Post Traumatic Didn't Make The Lakers Syndrome is REAL JACKASS POWER!!!!!!

Military colleagues say Kerry unfit to be Commander-in-Chief
TheAnvil replied to panzwami's topic in Speakers Corner
These arguments serve as a counter to those presented by Kerry claiming credibility merely because of his Vietnam service. They do little however, to show what a poor job the man would do leading the nation and how goat-stupid his proposals actually are. Interesting reading in light of the direction he's taken his campaign. -
Cheney's Airtime versus Kerry's Airtime on CNN
TheAnvil replied to Gawain's topic in Speakers Corner
Pathetic. Fox is SO biased towards the right that they aired the entire Dim Presidential Primary debate during prime time. Granted, anyone with a three digit IQ hearing that debate realized that all participants were morons, but at least Fox aired it - unlike CNN's decision to air JC Watt's response to Clintons SOTU. CNN's fair and balanced coverage of Senator Dodd's statements on the Senate floor is where, Philly? Oh. I know. It's non-existent. Odd set of scales you have there. Perhaps you should BALANCE them. I'm pretty much disgusted by this, but my freedom of speech loving side of me says if some worthless SOB wants to print this, let them. If some jackass can call a man who voted 26 of 28 times in favor of minority judges can be called a racist by fucking morons, morons should also be able to say bad things about Israel whilst ignoring other pertinent facts like the cowards they are. You should re-read the Church's positions on the death penalty and get back to us. Prior to doing so, try reading the Acts, Chapter 5 I believe, with regards to Ananias and Sapphira as well. This pathetic slam on the Catholic Church and its positions has relatively little merit and is thoroughly disgusting to this Catholic conservative. Intellectual Output - Arab/Islamic vs. Jewish World
TheAnvil replied to gary350's topic in Speakers Corner
Dudes - why the hell does anyone CARE about what race/ethnicity won what prize? Well, we all know why the democrats do, but why they hell SHOULD anyone care about such a breakdown? It's STUPID and doesn't indicate anything. Jews are growing up all over the world in many different cultures. Same for arab folks. Not that anyone's interested, but there have been no non-Appalachian winners of the coveted Anvil's Favorite Mom prize. Infer from that what you like. Beers to all (and tequila shooters for me), Vinny the Anvil Post Traumatic Didn't Make The Lakers Syndrome is REAL JACKASS POWER!!!!!! -
Slime? I'm in total agreement with you actually. Sharpton, Ben-Veniste, Bob Kerrey - they are slime. Oh! I see you were talking about Boortz' commentary. Ganz im gegentail, schoene Frau. Du hast deine Meinung und ich eine andere. A bit insensitive? I think not. Bis bald,
-
No I think walking out on a meeting of that nature given the enormous effort spent publicly demanding Bush/Cheney's comments before the committee was a pretty stupid thing to do. For smear campaign, google John Ashcroft, Bob Bork, Charles Pickering, Miguel Estrada, et al. Zoe Baird too. Vinny the Anvil Post Traumatic Didn't Make The Lakers Syndrome is REAL JACKASS POWER!!!!!!

Think that if it makes you feel better. Maybe Bob Kerrey left to study up on what terrorist events occurred when so he wouldn't embarrass himself next time by having his facts mixed up. Or perhaps he left to figure out how to spin the latest Gorelick excuse/fad...or maybe he's so appalled at having folks think he's related to John Kerry he went to see his psychiatrist. I agree with Boortz. Think what you like. Looking forward to Al Sharpton speaking at the DNC National Convention? Perhaps Tawana Brawley can show up!

Newspaper Welcomes New States with Nude Photos BERLIN (Reuters) - Germany's top-selling Bild newspaper on Friday welcomed the 10 new members to the European Union (news - web sites) in its own special fashion -- with pictures of 10 scantily clad young women from the countries in question. Continental Europe's biggest daily with 12 million readers, famous for its popular page one pictures of naked women, found 10 women in the new EU member states aged 18 and 25 to pose with little or no clothing to mark the EU enlargement to 25 nations. "The new EU women are so sexy," wrote Bild in a headline over pictures of the nearly nude blondes, brunettes and red-haired women. "Hello, new neighbors!" Bild published pictures of Polish ice cream vendor Anka, Czech customs inspector Stania, Hungarian hairdresser Victoria, Slovak nurse Jana, Lithuanian student Eliska, Latvian police officer Buba, Slovenian secretary Franziska, Estonian post worker Ekaterina, Carmela of Cyprus and Mona from Malta. A political commentator making conclusions - ones with which I tend to agree, given Kerrey's earlier sickeningly partisan performance on the committee. Still wondering what business anyone who didn't know under which administration the COLE incident occurred actually HAS on such a committee, but that's neither here nor there.
