...today. A co-worker got hit by an SUV while riding his motorcycle late last week. Since he was out of danger and semi-stable, the hospital said they'd let me see him as long as the family OK'd, so I waddled over to see him today. Holy shit. I am seriously screwed up from seeing that. His Mom and wife are very positive as seem the nurses (who are all liking me because I brought them Japanese rice-crackers). But all of those monitors, feeding tubes, other tubes, IV's, casts, and etc. sort of freaked me the hell out. He's going into surgery tomorrow for some more stabilization of some sort. Whoa. More tubes/blood/etc. My fear of motorcycles has been reinforced. I'm glad I went over to see him because it made his family happy, but holy shit did it screw me up. Amazing what the human body can withstand. And I'm already screwed up enough! I mean every time I sit on a golf cart, I subconsciously hear someone saying 'Goddammit Vinny! It's dwarf tossing time!' and fully expect someone to grab me from behind and chunk me into a concrete wall. It's hard to get more fucked in the head than that. Hospitals freak me out. Anybody else?
