I assume you mean slavery in the United States and not as an institution. The group of people who identify themselves as the 'black community' - I don't care what color they are, but apparently they do - are feeling the effects of slavery and racism. They use it as an excuse for their failures because they lack the courage to face the truth about themselves and take responsibility for their own actions. Do their failures entice me to support racial discrimination? Absolutely not. I would support a hypothetical program that gave preference to children of poor families in rural and inner city areas, so long as race/sex was not considered a factor. I also support FL's affirmative ACCESS program, which is also non-race/sex based. Most AA supporters I've seen & heard revile such programs because they are not racially discriminatory in nature, and therefore will not motivate the racially prejudiced portion of their voting base to get to the polls and vote as they direct.
