I used to wear my watch on my left (being a righty) but I have a men's SWATCH with time, day of the week and day of the month on it and the time glows in the dark. It got in the way of my alti and since I started skydiving I've been wearing it on my right. Lots of people think I'm left handed as a result. So although I always wear a watch, how I wear it has changed since I started jumping

It may not come as a cheque if you gave them your bank details on the tax returns. It will show up in your account from S.A. Alternatively if you are currently employed and paying PAYE they may just adjust your tax code, they prefer doing it that way these days as it makes sure the money goes to the NI number that overpaid. tash Don't ever save anything for a special occasion. I agree - I demoed both and decided on the Sabre2 but for really personal reasons, I have nothing against the Safire2 it just isn't for me - but there are lots of people for whom 'it is'. tash Don't ever save anything for a special occasion. Being alive is a special occasion. Avril Sloe

Removing blood stains from a reserve (paper cut on finger))
skytash replied to PROGRESSIVE's topic in Gear and Rigging
Just leave it there. any scrubing or detergent required to remove blood is bad for rip stop nylon (f111). poynters advises cold water but you know how hard blood is to get out of clothes!! I have blood on my camera wings and it has been there for ages. like the others said cool story. Don't ever save anything for a special occasion. Being alive is a special occasion. Avril Sloe -
the only time I've had a dropping sensation in skydiving was on a helicopter jump. This points in the direction of lack of acceleration being the main reason for not getting it when jumping from a plane. There is only a change of direction of the speed into the relative wind. Reaching terminal velocity too quickly by jumping from a plane would not explain why I got this when jumping a helicopter. tash Don't ever save anything for a special occasion. Have your relatives come to see you skydive?
skytash replied to Vertifly's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
my family is quite cool about it, my 4 year-old nephew was telling one of his friends the other day and the look on his face that the 'mad aunt' jumps out of planes! In terms of watching, my sister was rather brave and came to do a tandem when I was still on crutches recovering from a bad landing - she had been helping me out at home while I was recovering and then just announced she wanted a go! tash Don't ever save anything for a special occasion. im in the UK - what do i need to have to jump in the US?
skytash replied to Newbie's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
But bear in mind that the BPA 3rd party insurance doesn't cover North America. So if you (or your cut-away main or freebag) land on someone's car you will be liable. tash Don't ever save anything for a special occasion. Being alive is a special occasion. Avril Sloe -
I have a Sabre2 120 which also often has end-cell closures. When I asked a rigger what may help end cell closure, she asked what canopy it was and when I replied a sabre2, her answer was 'a re-design'

It depends on the DZ in my experience. Lots of the DZs in FL know that in the UK no seal is required and will usually accept no seal. Skydive Dallas in 1999 on the other hand would not accept it (Sebastian did earlier in the year) as they were not as familiar with UK rules. tash Don't ever save anything for a special occasion. Thailand update #11 (the big one)
skytash replied to billvon's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
and the ones who couldn't be in Korat on the day of the big jump because they were either still in hospital or already re-patriated as a result of injuries. For those who have been asking, C. is doing ok and high on (prescription!) drugs. If you want more a more detailed update, pm me. tash Don't ever save anything for a special occasion. like I say they sort of attach differently and make it easier for him. If someone does have a pic it may explain it a little. I couldn't get on line until today after seeing them this week-end and can't quite remember how they work. He said they are called something like that. I'm not sure if I'll see him this week-end to check. tash Don't ever save anything for a special occasion. Being alive is a special occasion. Avril Sloe

A friend of mine (a non dz.commer would you believe it!) used to have problems getting his hands into his diveloops no matter whether he packed them folding 'upside down' or not. He has just got big hands (and we all know what that means - big gloves ) He tried blocks but didn't like them and now has Saloni 1000 dive loops. They are bigger and somehow attach differently. Perhaps someone else here has them too and can post a pic? tash Don't ever save anything for a special occasion. Being alive is a special occasion. Avril Sloe

UK - skydiving rigs 6 months, governing body BPA. If a rig was repacked in a different country with a shorter cycle, this will apply to this re-pack. eg, my rig will be repacked in the US in a weeks time under the 120 day rules. This means that I can't jump it in the UK on day 121. If a rig is re-packed in a country with a longer cycle (eg Germany) the 180 day UK rule applies. If you are looking to revise the FAR it would be useful to make it clearer what the rules are for rigs brought to the US repacked in a different country. I know people who still sometimes have problems with UK packed reserves in the between 121 and 180 point in the re-pack cycle not clearly understanding what the rules are with their gear. I must admit I'm not 100% sure what the current rules are, but as I have a Javelin and PD main, I have always made sure I stay in the 120 day US cycle just to be on the safe side. tash Don't ever save anything for a special occasion. I have a friend who got the pull-out option on his Wings (delivered to him last Easter) and he had a number of hard-enough-pulls for him to use his reserve. I know that they had another look at the positioning of the pud and stuff but he was still not 100% happy with it. Don't know the current situation of either the rig in question or Wings with pull-outs delivered later. tash Don't ever save anything for a special occasion. Being alive is a special occasion.
