Forgive me for the mild threadjack, but why don't they just call them a 151 and a 137 then? Are the sizes of all their canopies wrong like that? __________________________________________________ I started skydiving for the money and the chicks. Oh, wait.

Fine then if DZ stop calling it a waiver and call it an understanding between two parties. Would that change things for you? Well, they could do that, but then it wouldn't be legally enforceable, which is the entire point of the waiver. __________________________________________________ I started skydiving for the money and the chicks. I"ve read a couple posts on here where the TSA cuts the pin. Why don't they just pull it if they want to open it? Are they too dumb to realize the cable goes in one end and comes out the other end? Or do they have some crazy idea where you could be planning to bomb the plane and parachute out, and won't do it if the pin is cut? __________________________________________________ I started skydiving for the money and the chicks. Again, I gotta ask, A CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT? REALLY?
Harksaw replied to quade's topic in The Bonfire
So, does anyone have a reason why they shouldn't be allowed to marry besides "it means change"? Definitions of words change all the time. In the early 1800s, the definition of a person didn't include black people. That changed, and it was a good thing. It should have changed. Meanings of words change all the time. If your only arguement against gay marriage is that it would change the definition of a word, I am really not convinced. __________________________________________________ I started skydiving for the money and the chicks. Again, I gotta ask, A CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT? REALLY?
Harksaw replied to quade's topic in The Bonfire
Man, I wish people would do something like "mind your own business" Anyone know how allowing gay marriage will negatively affect ANYONE in any way whatsoever? I heard on the radio the other day some person talking about how allowing gay marriage would "take away our freedoms" Can anyone explain that bit to me? People are different. If that offends you, the problem is with YOU. __________________________________________________ I started skydiving for the money and the chicks. Oh, wait. -

Harksaw replied to SkydiveNFlorida's topic in Gear and Rigging
I've heard some people still having trouble even with the newest software. I'd wait until everything gets sorted out before dropping that cash. __________________________________________________ I started skydiving for the money and the chicks. Oh, wait. -
What do you do at Zhills? IIRC, the bar is open all day long. How about WFFC? - Jim The bar wasn't open all day when I was there last. Course, that was nearly a year ago. __________________________________________________ I started skydiving for the money and the chicks. Oh, wait.

Has your reserve/cutaway pillow ever flipped under your harness?
Harksaw replied to FrancoR's topic in Safety and Training
I would think this could be a bigger problem if you were jumping a rig that was too big for you. __________________________________________________ I started skydiving for the money and the chicks. Oh, wait. -
I am glad most DZs (that I've been to, anyway) are not like you, and actually do care about obeying the law. Its not to protect the illusion that skydiving is safe. Skydiving is plenty dangerous without breaking the law as you have listed above. I can't see how you are defending illegal activity as an inherent part of skydiving. Laws are there for a reason. There is no reason to make skydiving more dangerous than it already is by breaking the law. I know you are a resonable person, and therefore I can't believe you are defending the illegal activity that you seem to be. Am I missing some of your point? __________________________________________________ I started skydiving for the money and the chicks. Oh, wait.
-
Several of the points you mentioned involve blatant breaking of the law. If someone sued if these illegal activities caused a death, I would not shed one tear toward a dropzone that was forced to shut down due to these illegal activities. I would prefer they stop on their own, hopefully before an incident occured, but if this is the only way to make them stop, then so be it. I don't want illegally behaving skydive dropzones affecting legal ones, giving skydiving everywhere a bad name. __________________________________________________ I started skydiving for the money and the chicks. What Is With the Sue Threads?
Harksaw replied to jmpnkramer's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
QuoteHmm. I was looking for an answer there; I didn't see it in your reply. Would you jump at Perris, a DZ with a known history of fuel problems? Would you read aloud the assumption of risk for the camera? (required there due to people who believe they can still sue after signing a paper saying they won't) If yes, and a similar accident happened, would you sue? Would you claim that you had no idea such a thing could happen? Quote If its happened more than once, no, I wouldn't jump there. If I did jump there, and a similar accident happened, I would not think it wrong to sue, because the dropzone was breaking FARs and this was killing people, if I understand correctly. I'm going to clarify my stance on this and say, generally, I don't think its wrong to sue if the dropzone was breaking the law. Why should dropzones be above the law? No contract ever, no matter the wording, makes you above the law. __________________________________________________ I started skydiving for the money and the chicks. Oh, wait. -
What Is With the Sue Threads?
Harksaw replied to jmpnkramer's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
This may be true but then why are you jumping? What if someone sued you for all of your mistakes? I'm not talking about mistakes. I'm talking about cases of being completely reckless with someone else's life, knowing and ignoring that something you are doing will most likely kill someone. __________________________________________________ I started skydiving for the money and the chicks. What Is With the Sue Threads?
Harksaw replied to jmpnkramer's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Then why are you signing a document expressely saying that you won't do that? (yes, I know legally you can etc etc, but why are you giving your word?) Well, depends on the waiver. If I saw a dropzone waiver that said no one is responsible if the pilot is high on cocaine and crashes into a mountian, or not responsible if one of their manifest people snips my reserve risers, I'm pretty sure I wouldn't jump there. __________________________________________________ I started skydiving for the money and the chicks. What Is With the Sue Threads?
Harksaw replied to jmpnkramer's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
My point is that no contract, no waiver, no disclaimer can supercede the law. Anyone who is reckless or negligent with other peoples lives can be sued, and I don't think that that is ALWAYS a bad thing. Yes there are too many frivilous lawsuits, yes some lawyers go too far, and definitely yes you agree to the inherent risk of skydiving, but everyone seems to be saying that there is NEVER a justifiable case where a person could sue, and I am saying that there could be. __________________________________________________ I started skydiving for the money and the chicks. would you Sue the canopy manufacturer
Harksaw replied to Tinkerbelle's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
No, because the canopy is advertised as a high performance canopy, and running into the ground if you make a low turn is how the canopy was designed and advertised to function. I'm not out to sue a canopy manufacturer for hurting myself when the wind blows me into a tree. I'm just saying there could potentially be a case where the manufacturer was conciously negligent and should be responsible. __________________________________________________ I started skydiving for the money and the chicks. would you Sue the canopy manufacturer
Harksaw replied to Tinkerbelle's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Well, did Icarus know that the Crosfire would collapse, and keep selling it with that knowledge? That would be the situation I am hypothetically asking about, and that would be the only situation where I would think a lawsuit could possibly be resonable. __________________________________________________ I started skydiving for the money and the chicks. would you Sue the canopy manufacturer
Harksaw replied to Tinkerbelle's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Just for the sake of conversation, do you think if a canopy manufacturer made and sold a canopy they knew collapsed for no good reason, they should not be held responsible for anything? __________________________________________________ I started skydiving for the money and the chicks. Oh, wait. -
Flying Tigers has a Porter for the next 2 or so weekends!
Harksaw replied to Harksaw's topic in Events & Places to Jump
Yes, you heard correctly. Western SC's favorite Cessna dropzone has aquired a Porter for the next few weekends. Jumps will be $20 from 14000 feet! Hope to see you there. He never said that a Mirage would work 100% of the time. He said that a parachute system needs to work 100% of the time, and the conclusion was that construction is important, and Mirage has more solid construction because it has what he calls higher quality materials and better sewing. I don't see whats wrong with that, why can't you compare two rigs? I think he compared them quite objectively. IMHO he did a good job of explaining why a Mirage costs more, and I agree with pilotdave that there's nothing wrong with an objetive comparison of rigs. __________________________________________________ I started skydiving for the money and the chicks.
