  1. IMHO, if you don't think its good enough to jump, you haven't finished learning to pack. Yes it should be a requirement to jump it. __________________________________________________ I started skydiving for the money and the chicks. Oh, wait.
  2. Here's a funny comparison. First, let's look at the headline of the article: Now, let's look at something from the body of the article: Now, it doesn't refute that the number of attacks has gone up, but it is interesting to note that the article emphasizes the bad (higher number of attacks) and buries the good (fewer deaths). __________________________________________________ I started skydiving for the money and the chicks. 3. Yeah, I'm guessing something is wrong with the wording. If you've got a pilot chute in tow, why would it matter if the main risers stay attached? The main d-bag isn't coming out to pull them off anyway. __________________________________________________ I started skydiving for the money and the chicks. Oh, wait.
  4. I'd say, mathematically, you could have a weekday career and make on average 6-7 jumps a day on Saturday and Sunday. Thats roughly 13 jumps a weekend, 676 jumps a year, which would take you roughly 15 years to make 10,000 jumps, definitely possible in a lifetime. So, if your career makes enough to let you afford 13 or so jumps a weekend, and your dropzone is equipped to let you do that, then its definitely possible. It would be hard to make that many jumps on average, but its still seems very possible within a lifetime. __________________________________________________ I started skydiving for the money and the chicks. 5. Wouldn't the solution to this be to make your line stows short enough that they won't loop over each other? Also, to clarify, I'm not looking for individual success stories, rather, individual failure stories. __________________________________________________ I started skydiving for the money and the chicks. 6. I've been doing a little searching on the forums and I've found plenty of opinions and speculation about using tube stoes, many people (who dont use them) think they are likely to cause a bag lock. I'm looking for real world experiences: Has anyone noticed in personal experience that they have caused bag locks? __________________________________________________ I started skydiving for the money and the chicks. 7. Here's what I've been wondering.... What happens if the weather is crap all weekend and I don't get to jump? Am I SOL? __________________________________________________ I started skydiving for the money and the chicks. Oh, wait.
  8. Everyone here agrees with this statement, besides any anarchists who may lurk. What we disagree on is the degree of which things are taken away for the common good. So, unless you advocate eliminating public police, military, currency, highways, etc., you can't really disagree with this exact quote. __________________________________________________ I started skydiving for the money and the chicks. 9. The conflicting definition is in Parachutist, where the "Incident Reports" report mostly fatalities. __________________________________________________ I started skydiving for the money and the chicks. Oh, wait.
  10. Exactly. You don't even have to stow them all the way right after landing, just tuck them in the keeper and you'll prevent twisting. __________________________________________________ I started skydiving for the money and the chicks. Oh, wait.

  12. On the last load yesterday, the plane had to land with all jumpers on board. One new jumper had a student cypres, which fired sometime before landing. Remember to turn them off when landing, they can and most likely will fire when the plane descends! __________________________________________________ I started skydiving for the money and the chicks. 13. To answer the question about what to do with your gear, here's an idea: How about plan out which dropzones you are going to, and call ahead so you can mail your gear to the next dropzone? Ride to that dropzone, jump, then mail it to the next dropzone! __________________________________________________ I started skydiving for the money and the chicks. Oh, wait.
  14. How about allowing a decimal point for "Years In Sport"? Edit: On second thought, maybe it is allowed, but you can't put down 1.5 because it only allows 2 characters. __________________________________________________ I started skydiving for the money and the chicks. Oh, wait.
  15. The jumps for the American C liscense, at least when I got it, did not have to be declared or sequential. They could be any of the jumps I had made. __________________________________________________ I started skydiving for the money and the chicks. Oh, wait.
  16. Lets say there were no laws whatsoever governing repack cycles. How often would you repack your reserve? __________________________________________________ I started skydiving for the money and the chicks. Oh, wait.
  17. Heres a question I heard one of my private pilot friends thinking about: A dropzone normally flies four jumpers and a pilot in a Cessna. Jumpers pay $15 a slot, adding up to $60 a load. Could a non-commercial pilot fly, if he and the four other jumperd each paid 1/5 of the total $60, or $12 each, if the pilot wanted to get some time? So, would that be a "common purpose" ? __________________________________________________ I started skydiving for the money and the chicks. Oh, wait.
  18. I always pronounce "Fire" as 2 syllables and "bonfire" as 3. Maybe its just regional differences. __________________________________________________ I started skydiving for the money and the chicks. Oh, wait.
  19. "This thread's for bonfire" has six syllables. So does "this thread's so being moved" __________________________________________________ I started skydiving for the money and the chicks. Oh, wait.
  20. 39 feet? Thats nothing. I heard an old-timer talk about how back in the 70s he was landing a 15 foot canopy all the time! __________________________________________________ I started skydiving for the money and the chicks. Oh, wait.
  21. The rule of thumb I go by is that it should take roughly the same amount of force to unstow each line stow. If it is too loose, either get a smaller band or double wrap it. As to what is too loose or too tight, you'd need to ask someone to show you as that is difficult over a message board. I remember in Parachutist they said 8-12 pounds of force. (Which you can't scientifically measure, you've really just got to have somebody show you) __________________________________________________ I started skydiving for the money and the chicks.
